Good review guys. Not so many competent in-depth review out there. Really enjoyed hearing your impression on the Surfari. Keep on going this path, the industry is grateful for informative content like this.
I’ve owned a Surfari for several years and ridden it in all conditions through Aus/NZ and Japan. It’s the best board by far I’ve ever owned, just loved it from the first ride I took. Great board, so much fun and carves hard.
I’ve been riding the Surfari 161 for 2 seasons. I have 10 boards and the other 9 have been getting real dusty since I got the Surfari. Thing rips everything
Thanks. Not really at all. The only real similarities is they both like to drive hard off the front foot but the Surfari can accomodate center weighted and back foot weighted turns pretty well too. The Pencil has a lot more taper and a stiffer flex that's a little better in soft uneven snow but it doesn't have the chatter absorption that the Surfari does with all kinds of uneven snow. Especially hard snow. If you ride super posi, like more of a hard carving high speed snowsurf ride and see a lot of pow and like to drive hard off your front foot go Pencil. If you want more of a normal snowboard feel that's more centered on board and better for all conditions go Surfari. Both spring out of the turn super well.
Souly Grail is more turny/narrower/softer/less powerful and aggressive/less floaty than the Surfari but easier to ride all day. Singular is less floaty than the Souly. Knowing nothing about you it's really hard to help more on which one you should get. Hit me up here if you want real advice. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Same, picked one up in the outlet sale for $420. Got an Aloha Vibes this offseason for low angle/tree riding and possibly party laps, hopefully I like both lol
Hi good ride, great review! Is there any difference between the 2023 and 2024 Surfari models? I noted Amplid mentions anti phase 3.0 and 2.0 (and the 2024 paint Job is black). Thanks
Thanks. I didn't ride the 2023. Just the 2024 so not sure. From what I understand this year's 2025 model is going to be the same as the 2024. I really liked the 2024 so if the 2023 is close it might be worth a shot.
Working on it. Just soo behind on these reviews. Didn't ride the old Morning Glory so can't compare. Didn't feel much like the Surfari so didn't compare that when we filmed the review. You can hit me up here if you want to know which board would work better for you. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Great review! How would you compare the Safari with the Hovercraft in trees? Also looking at the Yes PYL Uninc, Rome Ravine Select, and Rossignol Sashimi. Thanks!!
That is a big list. I would say the Hovercraft 2.0 felt a little more turny in the trees but the PYL Uninc is faster than both. I'd put the Stale Fish in there instead of the Ravine Select as it's more directional/floaty. Pass on the Sashimi as it doesn't keep it's speed well. That being said not sure if any of these are right for you. Hit me up here if you want to do this right. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Great Review I have not purchased a new board since 2008- (Rome Design) and wondering if you please could give me some advice? I enjoy riding the piste and groomers and looking for powder off piste, etc I am now over 50 years old -riding 7-10 days per season (Europe resorts) Would this be a good board for me and what would the difference to my current Rome board be? Thanks for any assistance you can give me
Thanks. Based on the info you gave I can't say if it would be a good board for you. If you want legit advice hit me up here so I can learn a lot more about you to help you properly. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Does anyone know if the 161 does fit a 11.5 boot? Is the 264mm waistwidth too narrow? The board looks great and damping might be nice for people with broken knees like me ;).
It's close but should fit. It really depends on your boots footprint, stance angles, how hard you carve and how steep the runs you ride are. If you want to get into it more hit me up here. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Riding 161, 210lbs size 11 boot. I’m approaching snowboard dinosaur age (50) and this board changed my game….all of my quiver has just collected dust since i got it two years ago. Just stands apart for all things related to carving/free ride. Damp but not too damp, edge hold for days and the drive and pop off the back leg coming out of big carves is just a blast. You won’t regret it….just buy it….and don’t look back.
Very tough Decision. Carving goes to the Surfari and Pow goes to the Hovy. You could flip a coin on this and have a beautiful life with both. It just comes down to preference. Hit me up here if you want to get into more detail. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
The Pencil is a lot more, stiff, directional, tapered and set back on board. The Surfari is feels much more centered on board in comparison but is more damp/easier to ride in all conditions. Both really shine on a carve but the Surfari can center weight or back foot weight a carve too where the Pencil likes more of a posi stance and front foot weighted turns.
I have both and much prefer the pencil in powder and trees. the Surfari carves much better. the surfari is better for all mountian, pencil excels in powder but can still rip turns. agree with TGR that the surfari is more centered stance. I am happy I have both.
Surfari is better in powder and most will like it better carving. In the future you go here you can use the comparison tool to get your answers. thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/?mens=1

How do you compare this board to K2 alchemist? (in terms of dampness and carving) I am currently riding Alchemist and thinking about adding either Surfari or Weston Backwood to my quiver. Want a decent pow board, that can handle groomer as well
I have both the Surfari and the Alchemist. Alchemist is more straight liney and way less damp. Surfari is so much more confidence inspiering while freeriding and I can just point it. I kind og feel like the Alchemist lacks soul. I’m selling the Alchemist and contemplating getting another Amplid. The quality is next level. The Surfari is more of a carver than the Alchemist on groomers though. It likes to be on edge.
Hard to guess based on the info you gave me about you. Both are great for that. I like the turning experience of the Korua but the dampness of the Surfari in all conditions. Hit me up here if you want to get into it more. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Will be waiting for that one, hopefully soon. I’ve got a SG in the cart and still just deciding whether to pull the trigger. Also have a Cardiff Powgoda on the way..N+1

Thank you. Any time again!!! Now let's pray for early snow. @@thegoodridesnow
I did a demo of the Surfari and was really impressed with the stability. I kept thinking about it so much so that I bought it!
Thanks for your take and sounds like our opinions are synced.

I ride the 161 Amplid Surfari. Bootsize 9.5 weight 82kg. Unmatched powder float. The Surfari over the Hovercraft. The Amplid is a much better ride.
How would you compare the Surfari to the Souly Grail and Singular? Contemplating getting another Amplid to pair with my Surfari.

Hi there James, will you be testing the Soulmate as well ? The lower-cost series from Amplid ? Thanks :)
Yep but the review is a bit further out. It is compared in the Souly Grail review I just dropped today.
Got one on the way. Can’t wait. I didn’t love my Aloha Vibes. Hoping this one gives me some of that Amplid stoke.

That's correct. I just got a new Surfari and Amplid told me their products are generally for 2 seasons.
Outstanding review. Lots to like about Amplid, now that their graphics don’t make want to gouge my eyeballs out.

Not sure on your height and what kind of boards you like to ride but basic guess would be thats a lot of board for ya. I wish they made a 153.

Big Differences against souly grail???

Just wanted to point out the Souly Grail is actually setback at 15 and Surfari is 10 according to the Amplid website
We mean set back on board and not set back on sidecut. Two different things.
Ahh ok thanks
