I’ve been to Disney World in Florida and Disney Land in CA, and several Six Flags… Carowinds will always be my favorite. Thunder road was my favorite… I was sad when White Lightning came down just because of the nostalgia… the Hurler was great “Wayne’s World”… I guess nothing can stay the same.
I loved White Water Fall, and was fortunate enough to ride it it's first season. It was almost as much fun standing on the Observation Deck getting hit by the tidal wave as it was riding it.
I haven't been to Carowinds in over 20 years, I know I'll NEVER go back!!! Those 3 rides made the park & I have the best memories of the park from my childhood & teenage years on those rides!!! I also heard that they took the steamboat out of the park as well. Carowinds isn't & never will be the Carowinds that I remembered!!! :-(
Ownership keeps changing, thus focus. Grew up being dropped off many days with my friends growing up and have been back a number of times. Yes, the rides are getting faster, taller, and, i guess better, but the lines are growing and there's no relief from the heat. While Thunder Road is missed, many times I'd get there to find short or no lines. It wasn't holding its own against the other rides to justify the maintenance of such a large wooden coaster. The rides I miss come down to: 1) White Lightning 2) Log Flume (I see some suggesting it, they had one they removed) 3) Pirate's Cove (or was it Treasure) -- Simple ride, but great way to beat the heat between big rides. 4) Open Bucket 5) The Rapids I hate that the only way you can get wet is through waterpark rides. While some of the eye candy is nice (and a lot not so nice), I don't like wearing a suit the whole day.
My first visit to the park was in 1981 when they had this monorail that went around the entire park. I guess each generation will have their favorite rides. We still get season passes because the prices are reasonable but I’m betting prices will double or even triple over the next few years!
Those water rides were the best I rode on them when I was 10 years old and was scared but had fun ): sadly there gone now I’m 22 now I looved roaring rapids
What about the pirate ship in the 80's and 90's that turned the entire room around you upside down while you sat there? The original Black Beard's Revenge...anyone else remember??
I wish they just built a metal replica thunder road and make it a little better... I don't know it was the first roller coaster I ever rode so that nostalgia would always hit
@@AnnalisasAwesomeAdventures Oh yeah you know it would and imagine the revenue of all the people that would come just to ride thunder road again and the coaster would be relatively cheap compared to these gigantic crazy coasters nowadays.. it would be cheap to build it and it would be simple but everyone would come just for thunder road I don't understand why they don't do it
As sad as it was when they took Thunder Road down, I understood why. It was one of the oldest rides in the whole park, having debuted in 1976. The year leading up to its closure I could tell it had definitely seen better days. It just wasn't going to last much longer. As for Rip Roaring Rapids, an employee told me that the man-made river rapids were becoming too expensive to maintain. I'm sure there were other factors too, but that's all I know atm.
@@AnnalisasAwesomeAdventures They had the money and the ability to refurbish the coaster. Cedar Fair did just that with The Racer at Kings Island and Racer '75 at Kings Dominion. What killed Thunder Road is blatantly obvious, about 6,600 feet long and 325 feet high kinda obvious... It was right smack dab in the middle of the expansion area intended for Fury 325. That old Philly Toboggan wooden coaster didn't stand a snowball's chance in you know where.
It’s sad though because RRR was a great ride, but there were always problems with it. I was in line several times in 2013 where there were always malfunctions.
I agree it still shows the rapis on the maps I was looking for it today. 🤨 i would like to add the water logs and the wild bull (my first roller coaster)
The only one of these I've personally ridden was Thunder Road... and I was not a fan. I didn't like how much it rattled. I preferred the Carolina Goldrusher. Not hatin', just sayin'. When I was visiting Carowinds, the only water ride was the Powder Keg Flume. It ended like the Whitewater Falls with a splash that would get you wet, but it also had a short level segment which was like a very toned down version of the Rip Roaring Rapids.
@@AnnalisasAwesomeAdventures So am I! 😄 I actually visited Carowinds for the first time during its first or second year of operation. I was a small kid, but I remember the double decker carousel and the paddleboat. (That's how I know that it was in the first two years, because they removed the double decker carousel after that). 👵
I wish they just upgraded the rapids cause every time I rode you like never got wet and it felt more like a lazy river I understand why they done it but if they choose to in the future to bring it back I hope it has some serious fun upgrades.
Carowinds desperately needs a new water ride, a log flume would be great especially if it were heavily themed like splash mountain even with the peanuts characters animatronics would be fine with me.
Carowinds Management aka staff needs if good swift kick in the ass for taking those out ! Including the old log flume! Their innovation sucks! I rather go back to Kings Dominion in VA where they have it all original still! They have it all! Sister coaster of Thunder Road , water rapids, log flume , and even the grizzly!
And nothing is wrong with rebel yell same as nothing was really wrong with TR I know someone who worked as maintenance said she watched them rebuild them

We visited Disney World a few years ago and the lines were insane!
Thunder Road will always be my favorite of all time bc I'm a sucker for wooden coasters.
Yeah it certainly was a classic coaster! 🎢
Wish I had the pleasure of experiencing those water rides.
Carowinds still has an awesome water park but those rides will certainly be missed!
I loved White Water Fall, and was fortunate enough to ride it it's first season. It was almost as much fun standing on the Observation Deck getting hit by the tidal wave as it was riding it.
I worked rip roaring rapids for two seasons, it was the best job I ever had
Very Cool!

I remember the steamboat! My first time to Carowinds was back in 1981.
I LOVED Thunder Road. I once rode it 22 times in a row lol. I used to love the Steamboat and Smurfs Island as well.

Unfortunately that ride cost too much to operate according to people that worked there. It sure was a great ride though!

I remember! Wish I had footage. People really thought they were going upside down!
I remember it well.
I remember it well.
I remember it well.
I remember it. Itd have u dizzy and disoriented. Could never ride it more than once at a time

i loved thunder road and white water falls, i wasnt really a big fan of rip roarin rapids but its sad to see all of these rides gone!
Yeah still looks weird coming to the park from 49 side
This is the video I was thinking of! This is epic!
Oh 👌
Went this past weekend for the pass holder re-opening only to find RIP Roarin Rapids all closed up. No water rides at Carowinds right now 😪
I know...hate to see this ride gone!
I’m thinking in an effort to conserve water all the water is being diverted to the water park and they will have no water rides in the dry park.
The staff needs a good swift kick in the ass for removing it all

Yeah wild bull was a childhood favorite too
No one talking about the mini golf course that got removed lol
Wow...not familiar with that one!
i swear that there was a mini golf course and everyone told me no but i was right
I can't find Mini Golf 1.
No WWF was removed for copperhead strike

Thunder Road was pretty old! It probably needed to go for safety reasons alone.

It was as a great ride! I believe that land isn’t used for anything right now. Such a waste!
I agree with the #1
Whitewaterfalls was where Copperhead Strike is now
The rapids ride isn’t being removed it’s just being rethemed
Oh I hope so!
Actually not true
Nope it's gone for good unfortunately
Because Kids kept in short Because there was a gun rage behind there before
Also they moved it
They replaced Whitewater Falls with Copperhead Strike, a ride that is 1000 times better. I don’t know why you’re sad that it’s gone.
Yeah I got over it! 😆
North Carolina is the place to be!
Carowinds desperately needs a new water ride, a log flume would be great especially if it were heavily themed like splash mountain even with the peanuts characters animatronics would be fine with me.
Couldn’t agree more! 👍
I haven't been to Carowinds in years. Is the action theatre still there? It was a 4-D ride beside thunder road
That ride is long gone!
Ok 😢
You know they still have the Send the road they just changed the name to Hurler
Sorry but Thunder Road and The Hurler are two separate rides in two separate locations. Thanks for the view!
I just left a review about thunder road and the hurler… they are different totally different… so glad to hear that the hurler is still there though.
güzel olmuş
I got to ride thunder road and the rapids
Both were awesome rides!

And also took away some of the ride
Um no white water falls was not removed for the water park it was removed for copper head strike
Sorry but it’s no where near the Copperhead Strike! 🐍
