  • I feel like I'm in a DAZE after this one. This is a FULL shaping and glassing of an upside down egg template I found on blendingcurves.com
I got the inspiration from @furrowsurfcraft on #instagram - their model called "Labryinth"
Made this into a twinny and excited to see how it goes!

this looks unnatural. Sick work, but I don't get the shape idea. All that width in the rear, making it harder to put on rail / maneuver, yet not providing that forward paddle power. I feel like it could be 1 foot shorter and still paddle/ride the same. Curious what you find out from experimenting. Sub'd for a hopeful update

Thank you 🙏🏽 Haha it really does look a bit unnatural. I figure if you took one foot off of it naturally you would have to lay more forward on the board? I really shaped this out of curiosity as well. I’m thinking it will ride with more drawn out cutbacks but maybe even quick snaps using the wide back as a pivot point with less swing weight? I’ll keep yah posted.

Hey nice vid thanks. I esp liked you laminating process. 3 stages, top first. I guess that means you don’t have that tricky lap grinding, on second stage.
One question for you …What bottom contours did you put on it?

      Hey, thank you 🙏🏽
I actually did the lap cutting on the second stage, but I didn’t do that for the 3rd stage.
I did a single concave about an 1/8inch deep and added a channel out the back. I made a short “shaping a surfboard as a beginner pt. 4” that shows this process - if you are a visual person! Hope that helps.

Thank you so much 🙏🏽 I really appreciate the compliment! Been working hard to get better at the craft. It’s so time consuming.

DUDE! Like your reading my mind... I'm thinking of shaping a WP back egg, but more in the 8' range. Looks good! I had the chance to have a look at some of the furrow boards, they do tend to lean to imo very low rockers, more in the true hull style. If you're surfing a punch beach break (which I do) I'm going to add a little more in both tail & nose.
From what I know its good to keep the rocker apex to the back as well, having it more shifted to where you would be standing. To describe it in word that would mean a long flat arc going to the nose. And a low but stronger arc towards the back (think Nike logo but way less extreme). I'm thinking about adding a little 1/4 of flip in the last 3 - 6 inches or so. All still very continuous.

Haha I guess great minds think alike 🤷🏻‍♂️
Her boards are too interesting to not want to try and replicate. I saw it a while back and told myself once I start shaping - I’m going to try and make something similar! I’m not sure if her design is mainstream yet, but I bet it will be soon once the big wig board companies catch a whiff.
That makes sense - a less exaggerated Nike swoop. You described it perfectly. This blank actually came with quite a a bit of rocker so I decided not to add any additional. So I’m hoping I can take this out on some punchier waves!
This is my first twinnie too so I’m excited to try it out! It’d be cool to see what you shape. Any way you can send a picture of it when you finish?
