1A Auto is my #1 go to because they have a lot of videos on Chevy Silverado, Suburban & Tahoe. Very helpful
I enjoyed watching y'all struggle on getting the old bolt off. I've watched so many RUclips mechanics do something difficult like it's absolutely the easiest thing ever, then when I tried to do it it's extremely difficult. Glad to see y'all struggle for once on something easy.
1A auto has been extremely helpful and saved me countless dollars over the years. Thank you.
Why people dislike the video, this person is trying to help and putting his effort to teach us how to do it ,. There are many ways to do it but that was his way and share it with us.🤔
Can't please everyone...
Agreed
Some people just love having something to bitch about
Just did both links and bushings today. My truck is raised, so I didn't need to lift it, and I didn't remove the tires...worked out great. Thanks for the video!

U answered my question don't need to take tire off ..cuz my link seem to be too short!
The pro resorting to cutting it off, love it!
How about using a sawzaw at the lower grommet? Seems it would be a lot less work to get the old bar out.
He had the cut off tool right there to cut the plastic when he shouldve just cut the damn thing off! A sawzall isnt the right tool, it would work but too easy to jam the blade into stuff.
Normally, I absolutely love your videos, and this is no exception. However, he did not need to cut that plastic piece out of the linkages. He could’ve just hit it slightly on top with a hammer and push the whole bolts for the sway bar link out of the bottom. That’s how I do it all the time. It just pops right out of the bottom and falls apart with the bushings and caps (or plastic spacer - in this case). However, I am glad that he had an opportunity to diagnose and rectify a seized sway bar link and spacer - which is GM stock OEM. It might be good, if people have that stock plastic spacer on their swaybar linkage that they coat that middle section of the bolt with some anti-seize before putting it back on and maybe try to coat the inside hole for the sway bar to prevent further rust/impedance. That is...as long as the anti-seize doesn’t get EVERYWHERE lol 😂
+mengel420 Thanks for the tip!
Looks like there wasn't really much clearance to hit it with a hammer.
Keep making the gaming videos he didn’t have enough room to punch it out
Anti-seize is the chlamydia of the auto-mechanic’s world. Kinda like glitter for crafters...
Bout time u did a realistic repair 😂
🤣😂
Mine was actually way easier than that! That’s a first!
What would be considered unrealistic?…
@@duke792 I think Nick means videos where everything goes according to plan. No screws stuck, rusted etc.
Question, do you need to remove the tire or can you do it without removing it??
Great video. Thanks for the instructions! I used a cutting wheel to hack the top part off and a punch and ball peen to knock the bolt out. Good stuff!!! THANK YOU SIR!!

I torqued my bolts to whatever the fuck I wanted and it seems to still be working. Lol
I’d love to buy a vehicle you did a whole playlist of videos on 😉
Great video. Really helped me decide if I wanted to do this myself or not. Glad to see it's pretty easy
Is there any difference between a plastic and a metal sway bar link?
I suggest a grinder with a cut off wheel for fast removal
you are like me, if its rusty and I am not reusing the part the grinder comes out.
when all else fails, use a cutting wheel 💪 where do you buy self-healing strut cylinder?
Super informative & straight to the point. Thanks for helping a young tech out!
Are these reffered to as the "stabilizer links" as well? Took our 2011 Suburban to the dealer and, after doing a diagnostic check, we were told that the stabilizer links are broken and need to be replaced
Yes they are correct
Thank-you for theawesome videos, I take it that my 2018 sierra would be about the same torque? i have been looking online but can not seem to find values
A reciprocating saw with a metal blade cutting the bolt off about halfway and then hammering it through works great other than struggling so much with that plastic spacer
Honest question, is it necessary to torque it down to 17lbs?
I know this comment question is old, but yes it is a good idea. If you don't have a torque wrench, or even if you do, pay attention to the 4 bushings when they start to get squeezed. You DONT want them to look like pancakes. Just a moderate amount of pressure on them is OK.
The point of the sway bar links is to connect both sides of the front suspension. There needs to be some play and ability for those bushings to adjust as necessary while driving. If you don't compress the bushings at all, the link doesn't really serve a purpose. It would basically just be a rod that goes from the sway bar to the lower control arm, not giving any resistance to the sway bar itself to limit excessive vehicle roll around corners, etc. Sorry for the long response. Hope this helps someone. The torque spec is usually around or right on the money when it comes to how much compression is needed. Depending on the type of rubber and shape of the bushings, there could also be different torque amounts as the aftermarket bushings could be make out of a denser material. When buying, go for a poly instead of just regular rubber bushings if possible.
So do you need to have the same amount of threads just like the old ones?
Do you take off both sway bar links to be able to pry the sway bar up and fit the new links in???
Thank you , my truck it’s lifted already no need to jack it up lol , thank you for the video
I dont even waste my time trying to remove those with ratchets and wrenches, I go straight for my angle grinder with safety guard removed and a cut off disc big enough to get where I need to cut and whoolah, time to put the new link on!
You had your vice grips on the wrong direction and you didn't need to do all that to get that old bolt out. Just grind the bottom bolt head off and then pull it out through the top. Easy peasy.
Wrong frank...top nut junior then hit the bolt down...
And u dont need vice grips for anything all u gotta do is get the top nut off and smack the bolt down...u guys arent to swift apparently
Vicegrips are not directional. "Easy peasy"
@@MrBen527 vice grips are clamping channellocks and i do believe those are directional, but either one is not needed here.
FWIW From the shop manual (this generation, 1500 series):
Stabilizer Shaft Link Nut
Tighten: 23 N.m (17 lb ft)
Awesome video! I just need to change the rubber bushings on mine. Perfect 👍🏼.

Thank You this helped me alot and I also ordered the part from your website.
+dani gil Thank you for your feedback and your business!
Quick question. Do I have to take the tire off? And if I do not, and keep the tire on so I need to jack the truck up?
Thanks again 1aauto. You guys rock
Great video. Replaced my sway bar links yesterday. But after doing so I've noticed a screeching noise when I drive. More so on turns and driving slow. What could it be???
Probably blinker fluid..it could be low check it..bcuz sway bar links dont make those kind of noises...im going with blinker fluid or the kanefeil pin
Try pumping grease into the zerks located at each bushing on each side of the truck. Also, when assembling the end links, wipe a little grease onto each bushing prevent squeeking. The brake wear indicators may also be the cause, so check your pad thickness when you pull the wheel off.
Do you guys have torque wrenches for sale like the guy uses in this video? All the ones I see in auto parts stores have really long ones that don't even fit underneath the truck!
I put a rough country wedge style leveling kit on my 08 1500 years ago. It goes under the bottom strut mount. Should I have put a taller sway bar link in then?
That truck is sure driving its way to rusts creek
When i ordered my swap bar link it came way different than the original I got a metal pipe in the center instead of the black rubber piece
Thanks AGAIN Andy!!!! You are a lifesaver!!!
+Duck Hunter Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
1A Auto is my jam. I love them
Im just asking. Why are 1autos links 47.00 vs 21.00?
Cut the old one off and save time and effort ! Just bought a replacement for mine and it came with everything ! AC Delco on Amazon for $8.97 🤠
Will this be the same for a 2015 Chevy Suburban??
Mine were loose on my 08 Tahoe so I know I was riding in a death trap😂😂😂🙃
you gotta replace the nut and bolts anyway just take the cut off wheel to do and be done with it
Good video.
Thanks
sweet
Is a alignment required after this service?
+Captain Howdy Thanks for checking us out! If the only thing that was moved or altered was the sway bar link you would not need another alignment however if any of the other suspension parts are modified, taken off, or loosened then you would need an alignment. The sway bar link itself is not involved with the alignment but other surrounding parts are.
@@1AAuto Great! thank you for your input and response it's greatly appreciated.
Im pretty sure u can do it without taking the wheel off
Good to know
Would you need an alignment after this?
No you don't
Nope.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks 🔥👌🏾
Hi, will you need to use lock tight to keep the nut on?
I never replace a complete link. They are always broken by the time I get them in my shop.
Jokes on me my truck doesn’t even have links to replace.... just need to buy some and put them on.
Why remove the tire/wheel?
Chris Bryant probably for better camera angles
That's what's I'm wondering because I have to do this myself lol
You using the vise grips the wrong way you surprised me
I notice you were working on the driver side ,why take the passenger wheel off ,and then back on
There's sway bar end links on both sides of the vehicle
Do u have to take the tire off?
If we all had access to a vehicle lift to make our auto repairs look this easy!!! Big wish huhh
You are replacing it anyways. If the boat gives you any trouble just cut the link in half
Why you didn’t just cut the darn bolt apart and remove the pieces to save time? Saws all and a metal blade or a hot wrench and your done really fast.
well that didn’t work. I just sacrificed my hands and what tools I had. I could not fit the plastic thing back in there. The gap wasn’t big enough so I just endeavored :/
Lol I finished the video and see my issue smh.. coo video
+Frontline Cars & 20yr old finds Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
My 07 is rust free , it must be all the salt on the northern high ways .
100%. My, now, 12 year old Dodge Caliber required a near-complete overhaul of the rear suspension due to rust.
cut the
f988e3j thing
You a gas wrench and blow the top off and the bottom nut and remove. Way too much manual labor
He’s talking like people are slow maybe he’s is
Why don't you use air tools for goodness sake?
Do most people at home have air tools? They make videos so the average person doing it at home can have an idea of the time/energy its gonna take.
Just cut the dang thing!!🤦♂️
Why this man sound like he’s trying to seduce me?
I like how your mechanic doesn’t know the difference between a bolt and a stud.
A hammer would be much faster
Nope...
Lol
Do i have to do an aligment after this?
Thanks for checking us out! No, an alignment would not be required after replacing only the sway bar links. Hope this helps you out. +The Truth
@@1AAuto Thank you.
1A Auto Parts how tight to tighten sway bar links? Too tight and the bushings smash & crack.
Also what's the symptoms of worn sway links?
+TheTennesseeTittyTickler
Some of the most common symptoms of a bad sway bar bushing or sway bar links going bad are:
Clunking noise.
Rattling noise.
Knocking uneven noise road.
Lack of stability when driving.
Noise going over speed bumps.
Poor handling when turning.
