Giving report is one of the things I have struggled with since nursing school and even now that I am about to start my new nursing job, I am still scared and nervous as hell. However, I can confidently say that those fears and apprehensions of giving and receiving reports have been defeated! Thank you so much for all that you do and may God bless you abundantly!
Hi Sara I think you were put on this earth for a very special reason. Thank you for all that you do and for alll the help you have given us. I have been passing nursing school and a lot of my achievements have been through your efforts. Thank you and may God continue to bless you and your family.
I'm a student and these sheets have made me more competent as a care provider. I can't thank you enough for the sheets and all your teachings. They have helped me in more ways that I expected! God Bless you! And thank you for all your kindness.
There you again Sarah!!! I don't think I can thank you enough. Before this May, I watch your video so I can pass the the nursing school. Now I watch your video every day so I can be a better nurse. This video helps so much because my nursing report is need so much improvement. All I can say is the patient is fine , but after watching this video, I am kinda excited to give nursing report because I have the guidelines know. Thanks again.
Nurse Sarah, /Dr. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the both of you on your new addition to the family. I would also like to thank you during my journey to be the best nurse that I can possibly be and it is because you take the time away from your precious family to educate and bless us with your knowledge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love you for your dedication
This is a great educational video! I would add, study your charts throughout your day. Maybe the last shift was too busy to write it down. I love it altogether. I'm an older nurse and I see you❤️
I knew you will make a video of nursing report. This is very helpful nurse Sarah, I feel little bit confident of giving report now. Thank you so much for helping us.
Thank you for taking the time producing this video, it is so helpful! I always have a hard time handing off the report to other nurses when I was in med-surgery clinical last semester. Your video gives directions on what a good report should be like, and it's easy to follow. Taking your advice, I have more confidence on reporting skills in my preceptorship now. Thanks! :)
You're most welcome :) Thank you for taking the time to leave me this very kind comment. I'm happy it helped you with nursing report. I wish you the best in your preceptorship :)
Thank you very much! I'm a German Nurse moving to the US to work there. I'm a bit scared that things are much different than here in Germany. Your videos are very helpful to give me an idea of how it is in the states. I'm an cardiac nurse too and also oncology hematology. In Germany I get up to 25 patients to care for on a Med/surg unite. If our reports would be that detailed, we'd have to do a full hour just for reporting haha. I'm very much looking forward to have less patients to care for that I can actually focus on their problems.
My classmates are spouting off expertise sounding reports. Me, haha, it's more like this "This woman... she's a female.. 27... She came in an ambulance.. she said her stomach hurt..." I'm dying to sound like a nurse and not like a dud.
That’s how I feel. I’m coming out of orientation in a couple weeks and I feel like a dummy when giving report. I hope I get better bc it’s embarrassing 🥴
Thank you so much for this! I recently started my new nursing job and I was struggling with what to ask in report and how to give report to the oncoming nurse and this really gave me a structure on how to do that. I appreciate it
Also I think it’s very important to look in the chart yourself & not to rely on shift report all the time. Like you said, some nurses will leave stuff out and it’s your responsibility to look at the chart. I always get to work early to look at my patients chart that way I already have some sort of idea what they’re there for & what the plan is!
I’m a new nurse and I am struggling to give a good report on my pt to physicians and oncoming nurses. I find it hard to find and piece together everything I need to know about my patient... like what test there going for and the time. I feel so dumb sometimes and anxious all the time! So thank you for your vids 😊
Thanks Sarah! I also want to add the mobility status of the patient. For example are they independent with mobilising or will they be needing assistance , are they using a walking frame, gather frame, steady Eddie/ Sarah steady. Will they be needing close supervision or hand held assist? And also how many healthcare assistants do they need? Do they need a one on one watch, shared watch or no watch at all. I feel like these are important for safety of patients especially if they are a high fall risk patients. Thanks again for all your help. I find your videos very helpful and easy to follow 🙏🏾
Thanks for this video! I’m doing a preceptorship program with my nursing school and now we are more expected to run report for this and im struggling a bit especially because my preceptorship is in the psych hospital. it makes it a bit difficult to pick out the priorities to give/ get from the other nurses because alot of them already know all the patients and dont want to hear the whole story again but i still want to do a good job when pointing out new things or changes so that i wont mess up anything and they’ll take me seriously. This was very helpful though because I can still apply it to psych just in a different way!
Hi, Sarah! It seems like your report is very detailed. I just got a job on the telemetry floor as a new grad but I know the reports are only around 5 minutes since we have 5 patients. I was wondering how you know which are important to say during hand-off? I know some patients come with an extremely long medication list with different comorbidities and past surgeries. If that was the case do you only focus on when the next meds will be given and only the diseases that are being treated during their stay? I precepted in the ICU and your report seems something more like what they have in the ICU- very detailed, head-to-toe kind of assessment but they are definitely longer than 5 minutes. Thanks in advance!
awesome video as all your videos are thank you so much for all your valuable information. The one thing I would add to this list is fall precautions which comes up a lot as very vital report piece.
I’m a new nurse and one of my patients was having anxiety and I was like thinking in my head girl im gonna have bigger anxiety I’m about to give report😅
Hi… I need a sign in my nursing clinic during a shift change for our patients…. “ Closed for a shift change “ or “ Closed for a change of shift “ ?? Please help !
Thank you so much :) I really appreciate it! I'm covering renal very, very soon so stay tuned. Here are all my current lectures: ruclips.net/p/PLQrdx7rRsKfWwTsEG3KPPQx9rWa8AqMIk
is it typical that they ask you to give report after your shift is over? I have a friend who says the hospital doesn't let them start report until the shift is over and they get home, after a 15 minute commute, up to an hour later every time.
