I had the chance to compare these in a controlled environment last weekend and even this video, when the difference is clearly audible, doesn't do justice on the superiority of the Focals over the HS7s, it's a completely different level of speakers. Just ordered a pair.
We think about the yamaha too much at 1khz, and less bass than Focal, but if we compare HS7 with the original closer fot it. Focus to the snare 01:52...
The Focal definetly sounds more neutral than the Yamaha which has a forward midrange, although i find the Yamaha to sound slightly more open but that's usually the impression you get with boosted upper mids but vocals sounded unnatural though. I would personally choose the Focals but maybe they aren't fully neutral sounding either at least it's a lot closer to neutral than the HS7 but a little on the warm side
I tested both at once at my homestudio. My Room is only 12m2. The Yamaha show more details and sound more clear. Also you can good and datailed hear at low volume. The focal(evo) are more bassy and not so clear and detailed. I send the focal(evo) back. At the yamaha i set the highs = 0 and bass = -2 so it sounds most neutral 😉
@@Thedonyura They added a new bass reflex, changed the membrane and changed the amplification A/B for D. They added the most requested changes too. So they are better.
@@18CC There is a difference of $ 440 between the evo and the previous model. Changing an a / b amplifier for a D one without adding a DSP system that complements it is not convincing, changing the membrane to resemble the BE line and making it more expensive without giving any improvement, the only good thing is the bass reflex and the button. automatic shutdown, do you really think they are better? okay
Wish i could have kept the focals, they did sound good but Had to send them back. Could not deal with the rattling from one speaker. Now i have no idea what i want.
These boost at 500 and 800Hz makes the yamaha really mid boosty. Dont know if this is better for mmastering analysis? The Focal sound more balanced. You can also se in the flat frequency response of them. I prefer the focal (new EVOs) But i can not hear in the example if yamaha show more details?

I would like to use them for mixing and listening music in my home studio (around 30 sq meters). Two days ago, I was sure that I want to buy Focal Alpha Evo 65. Now, after watching so many episodes at your channel, I'm totally disoriented... I think you are the best oriented people on this planet in that matter. Can You pls give me your two best pick ups in this price range ? Tell me also, what model/name of streamer do You use as source for testing active sets ? Thanks in advance for reply. I am in the same situation (I am looking for a pair of monitors that will cost approximately 1000 euros, +/- ...), after I chose based on the praises received and I returned 3 "PreSonus Sceptre S8" monitors, which were defective (I received 3 defective monitors / one pair bought and one monitor replaced with another / brand new - all 3 monitors were defective right from the factory, although I bought them sealed); the monitors developed a very strange vibration at certain frequencies from the bass register, as if the speaker membrane had been broken, without being at high volume / each monitor highlighted the defect at different frequencies, compared to the others. I would never buy a product made by PreSonus again, because I can no longer trust this company / 3 monitors in a row, defective, although they were sealed at the factory, and, moreover, are their top product, which would must be under certain quality requirements ... :( All due respect to Thomann (Germany), who confirmed the defects and returned my money, sending the monitors to PreSonus ! Now, based on appreciations, I'm thinking of APS Klasik 2020, which are highly praised, but I have nowhere to listen to them, and I don't know what to do ...
don*t buy Focal alpha 65 it's a so annoying monitor.. it auto shutdown when you use it on low volume.. and then you need to turn it up high to wake it again or turn the power on/off... stupid feature... especially when the monitor is made for studios... guess i'm not the only one that likes to mix in low volume... I would never have bought this monitor if I knew that before... but again also don't buy HS7 that monitor is garbage.... you better off with something else

I've listened to a few of these shootouts with HS7s and they always seem like they're introducing some kind of phase issue into the midrange.

Not wrong about high end killer, Alpha 65 shows up so many top price monitors from the status brands it is actually shocking.

HS8 > HS7 and it's not close. Focal Alphas are fine but the Solo 6 are great but big $$$

buy genelec or focal. They are the only brand i would buy under 1k pair.
