  • Charles Barkley was known for rebounding and low-post dominance, but perhaps the only thing bigger than his game was his personality.

Imagine being called the "round mound of rebound" at 6'4. That's only an inch taller than Ja Morant or Steph. These guys like Chuck and Rodman are a different breed. Definitely deserving to be at the all time 75 list.

I cannot possibly describe the impact that Charles and the '92-93 Suns team had on The Valley (Phoenix area). My dad was a pilot for America West Airlines at the time, and they were going out of business and my dad was extremely close to losing his job (after being demoted due to the company filing for bankruptcy) - but them being the official sponsor of The Suns boosted their business and literally pulled them out of bankruptcy. Charles Barkley was so good...he saved thousands of jobs (and families) that year.

Being a 76ers fan I have been blessed to see real NBA game-changers through my life. It started with Doc. There was NO one like him when he arrived in Philly. The combination of grace and power (his dunks were vicious) was one-of-a-kind. Then Charles, well he looked like an out-of-shape football player. But, he was tenacious! He was a top athlete. Then AI, the opposite of Charles physically. The same 100% drive as Barkley and the fashion, swag, and style of a modern-day Dr.J. Now we have Embiid. Damn incredible. Also, we had Wilt but I wasn't around for him. The 6ers have had real game-changers every decade for 50 years.

Shaq just exeggerated. He aint 6'4 he started as 6'6 and shrinked to 6'5 on later years(still impressive ofc). And Prime Barkley could've be the top PF offensively in terms of raw talent and versatility. And when people talking about best rebounders its always like Dennis Rodman, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell this 3 is the top 3 rebounders. But I dont agree. First of all between late 50s to early 70s all superstars centers and power forwarsd has at least 1 20+ rebound per game season and couple of 18+ rebound per game seasons. It was about the shooting percentage and pacing. It wasnt only special to Russell and Chamberlain yes these 2 even better than rest of it but not a huge margin. Nate Thurmond, Walt Bellamy, Wes Unseld, Bob Pettit, Jerry Lucas (6-8 guy has 2 20+ rebound per game season) or SF like Elgin Baylor (6'5) has two 18+ rebound per game season. And most of the time he is a 12-13+ rpg player thru out his career. Gus Johnson a 6'6 SF/PF mostly averages 12 t o15 rpg. Or how 6'4 Oscar Robertson average triple doubles with 10-11 rebound early in his career.
So imo rebounding in 60s are very overrated stats. Like asists today. Its about pacing and shooting percentage. What Bill Russell doing with the boards wasnt something special to him. He wasnt better than Nate Thurmond but he was winning. Only Chamberlain was making a bit more difference with 24 rpg seasons.
And between Rodman and Charles. Rebound was Dennis's first priority. Actually other than scoring all the rest was his game. Great pick & roll passer, great 1 v 1 defender, great help defender, great trash talker, can get somebody's under the skin easily, great rebounder and perimeter/post defender if he want to be. And even tho he was 6 cm longer than Charles and have better wingspan he was undersized for his position too.
But Charles. Charles was 6'5 - 6'6 at most and he was wasting huge energy on offense. 80s and 90s were big men dominant era (Jordan and his team was the only bug of the meta) and Charles was facing 6'9 to 7'1 opponents everyday on offense. So ? And he was even than 12+ rpg every season almost. So imo Charles might be even better rebounder than Dennis even tho he wasnt as focused as Rodman.
Charles is a very underrated athlete imo.
ANd if you ask me my top 5 all time rebounders ?
    1- Rodman or Charles
    2- Chamberlain
    3- Moses Malone
    4- Hakeem
5- Jason Kidd (why ? Cuz he aint as athletic as Westbrook he aint as big as Magic or LBJ as a playmaker, he aint played in 60s like Big O) and still this dude has 8+ rpg season and multiple 7 rpg seasons and even have 10 -11 rpg play-off runs even after his 30 years old of age.
He is boxing and positioning IQ is uncanny. I mean in 2006 Play-offs (could be 2008 too) He tormented Young, Prime Chris Bosh in terms of boxing him out he was a 30+ year old overweight 6'3 , 6'4 PG)

Chuck was a beast. As far as power forwards Go. To me, 1. Tim Duncan 2. Charles Barkley 3. Karl Malone.

Kevin McHale was the Hakeem of power forwards with his post moves. Duncan played more center than power forward. Dirk is really a wing. Good list. All of them are top 10 power forwards

Wow, what if a young Barkley, already supernaturally genetically gifted, took care of his body and developed his athleticism and worked on it and maintained the best diet . . . He would have beat the Bulls in 1993.

@2:20 - a Richard Dumas sighting… did those who made this video think it was Chuck? This series of videos is great, just a shame that the screen is constantly a split between someone talking and showing some highlights. It wouldn’t hurt to see highlights on full screen here and there.
