How does it work out that I have a 12" EP running at 33 1/3 with one song per side? Are the grooves bigger or what? The runtime is super short compared to an LP, but it runs at the same speed and the same size on each side...
Great question! It's the design of the grooves, fewer grooves are needed which causes the stylus to track towards the center of the record more quickly but the song is cut into the vinyl in a way that it's the correct playback speed.
From what I understand, the 12 inch vinyl record running at 45 RPM was for dance music since it allowed for longer playing time than a 45. Concerning EP vs LP, I thought that an EP was a 10 inch record playing at either 45 or 33 1/3 RPM and it would sit between the 45 and the LP.
Thank you for sharing.

thanks for the info. It was hard to find a concrete definition
I kid you not, I have a friend I'm about to send this video to because they don't understand the difference! Having said that, I'm a proud RT85 owner.
They just said there is no difference, so your friend is right.
@@Satansclawps3 except that there is a difference though...

Is a 45 RPM 12" meant to disguise an EP as an LP, in a sense?

Extended play is a different story but a single as longplay album.
To me, an EP should have about 5-7 songs. Only a CD maxi/Cassette maxi or a 12 inch vinyl should have 3 songs on it.
Course there's.. in terms of quality EPs performs much better
So no difference, then why make a video saying there is no difference. Pointless video.
