Hello @albertromero9353, thank you for watching and commenting! That is great to hear that your ice cream bean trees didn't require any protection this past winter! How old are your trees? That gives me hope that I will not have to cold protect it much longer.
Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! That's awesome that you have one. I've heard they do a lot better after a few years and can grow to good, medium sized trees here in Phoenix. They taste pretty good. I have not tried a Phoenix grown Ice Cream Bean but I have had them in Peru.
Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate your kind words and I'm so glad to hear that my videos are helping with your gardening. Let me know if you have any questions.
How's it doing after the summer? Are you worried about the potential size of it with where you planted? I have one last spot in my yard that I think I could fit a taller and wider tree with the goal of it eventually giving some shade
Hello @TheJohnGray, thank you for watching and commenting! Our Ice Cream Bean is actually doing amazing after the summer this year. I'm going to put out a "How is it Growing" video on it in the next few weeks so stay tuned. It had issues last year just because it was it's first ever summer in the ground. I am not worried about the size of the plant based on where I planted it because it essentially goes dormant in the winter. So it's not going to get as tall as it would in it's native environment. If it does get to tall I will trim it to the size I want it at. I have found that it responds really well to trimming and usually puts out a lot of new growth afterwards. I think that is a great spot for an Ice Cream Bean tree! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hello @zyphworld9939, thank you for watching and commenting! It actually did really well this winter. I did cold protect it again this year (put on frost cloth and supplemental heat). I really didn't have the supplemental heat on very much except for our really cold nights. I have a feeling that in another two years or so I won't have to protect at all during the summer or the winter. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Here in Phoenix our ice cream bean trees dealt with this past winter perfectly fine. They were left unprotected yet made it out unscathed.
