Its something few people realize, but breast cancer in men and trans-women has a higher rate of fatality than breast cancer in women. It happens more often with women, but we've been told so often that this is a disease all women need to be weary of that most men think its something they *don't* need to worry about. So when a man gets it, he's more likely to ignore it until it gets to the point that there's nothing to do about it. And sadly, most trans-women share this mindset.
It doesn't help that with some doctors, transwomen may receive poorer treatment, or be too uncomfortable to go to the doctor at all. My friend had to switch doctors twice before she found a practice that was respectful & listened to her. Trans guys have similar issues; if a trans guy came in with ovarian cancer, his doctor needs to remember that that is a possibility.
@Xyz Xyz It increases the risk to that of a cis woman. Cis men have a lower risk because they don't have as much estrogen, so when trans women take estrogen to get it to a female level, the risk also increases. The breast cancer risk for trans women is in no way higher than for cis women, tho.
False. Girl why are you giving out wrong information lol
Doesn’t matter what gender, male, female, intersex or trans, breast cancer can still find its way. You may not even have a family history of it, it still can get you.
Always check and never be afraid to ask questions.
"which pronouns do you prefer?"
"She/Her....thank you for asking..."
People seriously underestimate the importance of basic courtesy and respect like this 💖
one time one of my coworkers forgot my pronouns, instead of guessing she asked me. that meant alot to me
To me personally, I love it when people see me and just assume I use she/her pronouns based on my appearance. It happens sometimes and makes me feel pretty & feminine. But overall in general it probably makes more sense to ask I guess, despite it making me feel like I'm not passing. Kind of a double edged sword. You assume, you might make someone feel good or you might get it wrong. Ask, and as long as people only ask people who look trans, you can't get it wrong but you will always be saying "you don't pass".
People only seem to do it if you look trans :/ and while I'm conventionally pretty, I still look trans a lot of the time esp when I'm not wearing makeup & dolled up. Makes me feel like this person respects trans ppl most likely, but that I'm not really at my goals.
No one should have to guess what you are. If you want to do whatever doesn't mean someone has to change their life and morals to purpose yours that's is selfish I believe it's a mental disorder you can scan a phyopaths brain at young age so maybe they should research more on brain studies in that department besides what looks only positive
when i got this question once now that i am 3 years living as a woman and i was with full make up on stockings and in a skirt when i got asked this i responded its obvious that my pronouns are she/her
I ask pronouns 41% of the time.
"Fun" fact: Cis men get breast cancer too. Not as often, because they typically have less tissue for it to occur in, but everybody has at least a little. It's part of why breaking down gender segregation in medicine is important.
Ehh, there is a balance. Biological sex is a statistically significant variable in _most_ medical conditions. Taking into account sex generally makes sense when it comes to making a diagnosis, as one of many factors. Also, there is an argument that medical conditions which typically disproportionately effect females (such as autoimmune conditions) are under-studied. Which suggests we should pay more attention to sex, not less.
Obviously sex and gender are separate things, but I'm unsure what else you could have meant by 'gender segregation' in this context.
We don’t deal with gender segregation in medicine . We account for risk factors such as sex. Both sexes are at risk for most diseases. Statistical prevalence is important in diagnosing diseases This allows for the doctors to not do unnecessary tests, which saves the patient time and money. Risk factors help us in determining which diseases commonly affect which people and assist us in narrowing down the selection.
Without this alleged “gender segregation in medicine” we would be testing you for every single disease every single time because there is always a chance that you have it. This is a massive waste of resources and could possibly delay urgent treatment.
Just to be absolutely clear yes doctors treat the whole person in medicine which means While they respect your gender, they do not ignore you sex. You can choose to ignore your sex in favor of living as your gender but doctors do not have that luxury, Because it can lead to misdiagnosing you.
"It's part of why breaking down gender segregation in medicine is important."- You're civilization destroyers. And you monsters must be punished and stopped at all costs
Please people, PLEASE, when you find even the littlest thing off, run to he hospital. Get tested, don't put it off. The sooner the doctor finds out what it is the better chance they have in saving you.
Absolutely. If anything not how it's supposed to be. If anything changes unexpected, it is worth having someone look over it.
And keep getting opinions when you’re being gaslit into believing you’re fine and it’s just anxiety
Great advice for any place but America
Or consult your GP first. If they say go to the hospital, then go
Seriously saba is serious it could be nothing or it could be stage 4 u never know
Having to give up what makes you comfortable in your own skin on top of a cancer diagnosis...this is definitely one of the most tragic cases I've ever seen on TV :( I hope that transwomen can take comfort in knowing that ciswomen that need double mastectomies also feel "defeminized" but it doesn't make ciswomen or transwomen any less of a woman. Love and best to all the Avas irl.
This reminds me of a Grey's Anatomy episode back in Season 3, where Meredith and Mark are treating a Transwoman patient named Donna (played by Alexandra Billings) who also had cancer as well, and was also told to stop taking hormones in order to fight the cancer, but she didn't want to go back to being a man, and wanted to fight the cancer as a woman.
That's not a trans woman that's a woman playing a trans and I can't believe the shrink wasn't used in this episode to explore the mental delusion HE has.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?! Does Ava fight for her life and realize there’s more to a woman than breasts and curves OR does she choose to sacrifice her life to spend what’s left of it living in the body she’s most comfortable with?? I don’t think there’s a “right answer” for this situation, I’d support someone making that decision for *themselves* either way. Her body, her life, her choice.
I was able to find this episode on Roku channel. Ava didn’t really take it well. Spoilers by the way.
The doctor tried to convince her to do the surgery but Ava stated “ I know I am gonna die young, it not gonna look pretty. But I am gonna die as the woman I was born to be.” She only got the surgery because a tattoo artist show her pictures of people making their scars as tattoos. However, the ending was odd because it was dance routine for Ava. Lol
But case in point, the fact someone allow theirselves to die young for a gender identity? I am not trying shame her for being trans but still, it a life and death situation.
@@Firestorm214 People kill themselves due to not being able to transition, so it’s not such a wild idea…
@@Hophbrinkle damn, that’s terrible
@@Firestorm214 things are life and death with trans people. That’s the whole point. We hate living as how we were born so much we’d rather die than deal with it. ESPECIALLY if you’re that far into transition and have been truly living as the other gender for so long. I can see how it could be superficial, and if it was just the breasts it wouldn’t be as bad. But stopping the hormones, too? That’s completely changing back. Idk if I’d want to either.
If she chooses to die it is her choice she made a beautiful woman
No doctor would present breast cancer findings at a bar.
This is a very sensitive issue but I’m glad it’s being brought to the eyes of many. Trans health is very important and that especially goes for mental health as well. I lost my partner to suicide a couple of years ago and she didn’t want to live in a world where others treated her so poorly. I tried so hard to fight for her but she eventually gave up. Next time I'm at the hospital I'm gonna dig into my male patients pants and say "what's this?" 😮
HIPPA HIPPA HIPPA. She wouldn't be talking about that with her in a bar or a hallway. She'd have her in an exam room or office.
True, but she tried and the patient refused to return her calls or come to the hospital. She cared enough that she went looking for the patient.
Eh it's a medical drama. At least they're not breaking into people's houses like another show
She doesn’t have to take the hormones with or without them she’s still a woman and that goes for all trans women and trans men
Cancer is unisex. Death and suffering don't discriminate.
As a trans person, I would rather die than go through stopping my transition. Cis people really can't understand the why, and some trans people don't either, but if you have severe gender dysphoria like I do, you'd do anything to avoid detransitioning.
Yeah, I agree. I'd probably eventually give in to the mastectomy, but I would never stop hormones. I would rather die. A longer life without that... Is not a life worth living.
So if you lived before these hormones you'd just die...🤔
Poor woman
Man
I’m a cis woman, and when I had to go to the emergency room one time for an anxiety attack the nurse asked me on the way to the chest X-ray machine if I get my period, instead of when was the last time I got it; I of course said yes.
I get asked if there’s any chance I could be pregnant 99% of the time. I’ve had a hysterectomy so I just say that and usually they chuckle and say so no. The rest of the time they ask when my last period was, and I still just answer I’ve had a hysterectomy. Usually they’re asking to find out what medications they can give you and they’ll try to avoid higher radiation scans like a CT scan if you’re pregnant. I’ve never been asked or heard of someone being asked if they get a period but that’s a good way to phrase it.
I'm just a woman, always have been and always will be. I won't call it anything else. It's just a fact.

Any transgender or gender fluid people out there… would you be offended if someone asked you “which pronoun do you prefer?” If it’s unclear which gender you identify with? I’m afraid it’s be offensive if say… a male is transitions to female but they don’t pass as female.. like I don’t want to clock them but some people want to identify as male but are just feminine ya know.
I personally dont think someone would be offended to be asked their preferred pronouns. It is always better than just assuming if you are unsure :) Very kind of you to ask for advice and be so respectful 😊
I'm transgender (female to male) and don't pass currently as I haven't started the physical transition. I personally wouldn't be offended at all as you wouldn't be able to tell otherwise:)
It only really becomes an issue if someone purposely uses the wrong pronouns once knowing the correct ones,
The best way I think (especially as it also allows for not putting closeted or people questioning their pronouns on the spot) to introduce yourself to new people is "Hi I'm ____ (pronoun, pronoun)" and they can respond with their name or their name and pronouns.
Issues I've run into (or seen others run into) with pronouns in general:
- I'd recommend not just asking people you're not sure about as it can be offensive to people who are trans. If they tell you they're trans first then sure ask their pronouns! Just never ask pronouns without a statement of that first, eg don't go by looks. (Some people are fine, some aren't and I've found it's best to just be careful with everyone you don't know... I've been in a group before where someone made a similar comment and it really hurt a couple people).
- Also on that, unless they mention they're trans first it's probably best not to directly ask someone their pronouns as it can be a bit uncomfortable or in a group setting say everyone has to say them. Everyone views it differently but when I was still coming into my gender fluid identity I felt soo uncomfortable when we were told we *had* to share our pronouns as it felt super on the spot and though I knew my gender identity I was still coming out to people and I didn't know what pronouns I even used yet : / Honestly at this point I'd be flattered to be asked but at the beginning it was stressful. It really depends on the individual! : )
Depends on the context. If it's a random person out in public, I'd feel like I didn't pass as the opposite sex and I'd be upset, not at that person, but at myself.
If it's a doctor or someone otherwise checking boxes, it doesn't bother me at all.
It really doesn’t, no matter how you identify under the vast spectrum, breast cancer can happen to you. So self check and if you notice something tell your doctor.
I remember her from I am Cait. Such a shame they didn’t do a second season of the show.
Just to be clear... your soft skin, roundness, or your breast are not what defines a woman.
What does?
True but for trans people, once you've transitioned and truly feel like you're changing into what you've always felt inside, finally feeling alive, removing those things that make us feel like us essentially is synonymous with death.

they dont need more options on the sex part of the form, they are literally just asking biological sex. for this person, they would put male since thats whats in their genetics. theyre asking for sex, not gender. if they asked gender, that person would put female.
But transgender people might find it offensive, since they don't identify themselves by their biological sex. Maybe just add a section confirming any transitional procedures they may have undergone.
intersex people exist who have both parts. Then what do they put
Medically it is important to know biological sex, because biological men and women can unfortunately be affected by certain medications differently. That being said, the medical industry can go above and beyond, by having extra boxes for trans individuals as ether a sex box, or gender boxes. They could even go as far as putting a pronoun boxes. Most importantly, there is a greater issue of bias in the medical industry, not only to trans folks, but women as a whole as well. The medical industry just needs to have an ethics reform in general
@@crowww5246 In some countries, they had that exact question. In said countries, they made it so that if your born with both parts, you can choose your own sex.
