    Thanks for the detailed install procedure, mine went exactly the same way!

    I heard so many stories of the contractors that do the trenching only go 4 to 6 deep !! My ISP had placed the box first so I took it upon myself to do the trench , I think I went 18” 30 feet long and it was in my back yard. Let’s just say they were happy. And they still ran direct burial optic cable in a conduit

    Thanks, Thomas!
    I’ve been researching and gathering market data for Gfi; thanks for taking the time and providing insightful user experience. I plan on launching a dedicated website mapping Gfi’s expansion, competition, and detailed comparison reviews.
    Feel free to let me know if that’s something that might interest you. Cheers!

      Yes an interactive webpage that people could post and compare parameters related to their ISP would be helpful.

    the white box is a modem that the fiber goes into and then its connected to the router with a ethernet cable

    Are you able to ask them to have the NIU inside rather than outside (like garage)? Wouldn't want anyone messing with it on the outside

    • @Bluborder
      @Bluborder  3 месяца назад

      You should ask the people doing your installation. The installer would need to bring the buried fiber from below grade up through conduit, through the exterior wall, and then into the NIU.

    The white box on the left is what's called an ONT (optical network terminal). Which as you said, it converts the fiber signal to ethernet.

      Google calls it a Fiber Jack

    Most wireless NICs don't go as fast as a Gb speed.
    A better test of speed would be to connect a computer to your router assuming you've got gigabyte NIC in your computer and cat6 or better cable You should get at least 900 or more BPS.

      @Bluborder  3 месяца назад +1

      I don't think my old computer NIC is 1 Gbps capable, but I'll give it a try with an ethernet cable directly to the router. Honestly, though, a 600 Mbps Wi-Fi connection is more than adequate for my needs.

    Ex gfiber tech here....who ever did the install on the inside of the was in a rush....they wanted in and out as fast as possible. Not the standards we where taught i am sorry for how ugly it looks. Id reach out to get it installed correctly. Nothing will change beside the esthetic of it but it shouldnt have been dont that way in the first place

      From an install standpoint I was shocked they came through the window trim on the backside.

      Hi @Ar2041 - hoping you can answer a question about install as I have one coming up in a few days. Is it realistic for me to have the direct bury cable routed from the curb in to my garage up to the attic and terminate down into a closet where I'd like to put the fiber jack (I want the jack right next to the router so I can run emergency power if needed)...? Thoughts?

    • @Bluborder
      @Bluborder  5 месяцев назад +3

      @@eddiegolajay They came through an existing hole in the window trim because I asked them to do that rather then drilling a new hole through the masonry wall.

    Did you have a choice where they run the cable into your house?

    • @Bluborder
      @Bluborder  6 месяцев назад +1

      Because the fiber was run from the street I wanted it brought into the front of the house and the installers agreed. Running the fiber to the side of the house was also an option and the installers would have done that if I had asked.

    • @MagnaRads
      @MagnaRads 6 месяцев назад +1

      @Bluborder I'm hoping they are willing to run it against the house my office is a good distance from the fiber box outside they put in

    A gig fiber and I’m getting the same mbs with cable internet. Is there another benefit if speed is the same. My speed is 540 download.

    • @Bluborder
      @Bluborder  5 месяцев назад

      For a single device/user 540 download might be more than adequate. However if there are multiple devices sharing the same router a higher bandwidth is desirable because the router aggregates all of the assigned device/users into the total available bandwidth, 540 in your case.

    500Mbps is way too slow for a 1G connection. I wouldn't accept anything much under 900Mbps. I'm getting rid of T-Mobile when i3 Broadband finishes the fibre installation in my neighborhood but I am getting 575Mbps from a cell tower now. When I was with Comcast I was getting 900Mbps on an advertised 800Mbps copper line. It could be your laptop modem is very old but otherwise, that is just wrong.

    • @Bluborder
      @Bluborder  4 месяца назад

      I agree that my WiFi devices are slow despite operating at their maximum capability but my GFiber modem is always rocking at over 1 Gbps (1,175 Mbps download and 1,112 Mbps upload with 4 mS ping and 1mS jitter typical). I estimate that my GFiber is delivering almost fifty times more bandwidth than I actually need for any one device and I would gladly switch to a lower priced internet plan if GFiber offered it to me.

      500-540 seems to be the device more so than incoming. my incoming is 940 at my router, newer hardware devices see 900 while most of my wireless see 400-540.
