Ok to make things clear, this video is not necessarily a full clear vision what I think a full Punpun adaptation should look like if it ever gets one hehe
This video is just a test on myself on video making and illustration in general rather than a test on my animation skills actually. I was planning to do irl footage for backgrounds but I dont live in Japan so I cannot get accurate photos for it so I resulted to having everything hand-drawn. I thought this way fits in this kind of format better (a short Music-Video-ish format) and good practice lol
I tried my best and I hope you enjoyed my 30 days of work...🙏🙇

The beauty of punpuns story is really that he just allowed the world to change him without resistance. Even becoming a killer because he thought he had to be, and never did he pursue his dream of exploring the stars.
That's what I thought too.
Kinda, he went against the cycle of suffering in your teens then making a baby out of pressure and applying what your parents did to you to your child. He searched meaning and wanted freedom but ended up in the same place the system wants him to be. That awareness and the search broke him and he basically just took a detour to where ended up coming as an adult

@@timberwolfy9865 maybe this kind of self destructive tendencies come from a lack of meaning? Where punpun starts out as a kid with a greaaat dream of getting to space and getting his own planet and that sort of stuff. Sure, it's innocent, but you can tell he has a sense of purpose, even if the people who surround and the things that happen to him sort of make that sense of meaning go away, which is why he seems to be so empty and engages in his autodestructive tendencies. So it's just a vicious circle all along, and behind the sad, lonely person we see Punpun become is someone who lost his sense of meaning over the years due to the kind of society he lives in. Not trying to be a smartass lol I just thought maybe both perspectives work for the character :o
I remember binge reading Punpun during a time I was so low. That was one of the worst and yet greatest decisions I’ve made ever. I had to rethink my life and calm down for 2 weeks. I legit opened a pack of cigarettes and got some whisky just to chill cause man. Punpun hit me harder than a truck
Does it really get worse? Im currently around chapter 50 and fucked up things definitely happened and im at the lowest of my life rn too but its not like affecting me mentally rn. Idk i might change my mind once i finish the series.

I first read Punpun about 10 years ago, that manga completely wrecks me for a long long time.
10 years later, so many things happened, so much shits life throws at me,
a very close friend of mine ended up Aiko-ed herself, then another friend in the same group followed exactly one year later.
Almost kms several times.
We all have our inner demons, inner 'afro god'. Life has ups and downs, if you can't get out of the pit by yourself, please seek help from others.
If you can't open your heart with friends and family, start over with strangers, anyone.
After all, we're social animals that weren't meant to be alone.
Hope you are doing better man. The most important thing is to keep moving forward.

I read Punpun at a really dark time in my life, I won't say it helped because it certainly didnt. But it gave me a feeling of belonging, that I wasn't the only one who felt like as much of a scumbag as I did. Reading Punpun gave me somewhere to channel my self-hatred and regret. But despite all the hardships and nights spent feeling like shit, I'm doing just fine today.

what got me to read oyasumi pun pun was this music video, i stopped watching the video till i knew what was going on with this girl Aiko and Pun Pun. Readin the last and latest arc of the manga while also fully understanding Juan Karlos’ Kalawakan, made me understand Oyasumi Pun Pun a lot lot more. After finishing the manga, I finally decided to watch the entirety of this animatic and holy crap, this makes the relationship of Pun Pun and Aiko feels like a planet floating in it’s desolate space in their own galaxy. Although Aiko decided to kill herself, this heavily reflects the message of Kalawakan. Letting go of someone while pleading, Aiko felt the need to let go of the fact that Pun Pun wasn’t the Pun Pun she loved when they were kids. So she died withe the last moment of being with the Pun Pun she loved. I highly commend the artist for combining an OPM (original pinoy music) with a Japanese Manga, this is genius.

SAME i stopped after i read the description and went and made, idk what to call it the worst/the best decision i made to even start reading it even though i saw the warning. i cried my eyes out whenever things got better cause i knew something much worse is bound to happen. never expected it to have a “happy”ending? but it sorta also bumped me out to see the same shit happen to another lives..

Hate to break it to you but its not a happy ending. The author confirmed this.
If you noticed, what we see in the last chapter is through the perspective of an old friend, not the main character. The old friend sees a kid, a potential wife, and his uncle with his wife. But we as the audience know that this is not the case. Punpun isn't happy at all.
Aiko, the love of his life, committed suicide and he wanted to follow her but he didn't. He becomes extremely depressed and now he's stuck with living around people who are only detrimental and negative to him (his rapist (the wife of his depressed uncle), raising a child that isn’t his, living with a woman he doesn't love etc). So on the outside it looks fine, but us as the audience knowing of PunPun’s life and what he’s gone through shows us that PunPun has gotten the worst ending possible for him as it’s literally him living through hell.
i disagree pun pun mental state has always been on how he was drawn. the ending panels and watching the stars meant that he was moving on from something that never really existed that being the life he thought that Aiko would give him. that's what it means when painter goes that star night was never even real.

I don't think I can put into words how much I love this! Your artstyle fits so well with the gritty feeling the goodnight punpun manga had. Your use of warm colors, the chromatic abbreviation with the mix of Juan Carlos really made me feel the emotional drive I felt reading the manga all over again in the span of a minute. I don't know how, but you did it, and I thank you for it

How life changed punpun as a person. Growing up is fucked up. This manga is far away from being my favourite but I cannot deny that this manga is a masterpiece. It straight up does something to the reader. I read it few months ago during a weird phase of my life. I don't feel any better now but I hope for a better future (for everyone).

The medium and the art style are important when creating art because they reflect feelings and experiences. I don't think that the "rape content" and its highly emotional suicide-related scenes, as well as the other depressing aspects of this manga, are the main reasons why so many people oppose anime adaptation because there are a lot of films that produces that kind of content. The only reason why they're opposed to it is because it'll feel different if adapted to any types of film whether it's anime series or a movie. If ever this manga had an anime adaptation, watching that adaptation will not provide the same feeling and experience as reading the manga. That's why they're oppose it, they want you to experience this story through reading it because it's what also makes this manga beautiful. It's almost a waste of experience if felt or experienced through watching it honestly. Kudos to the creator of this video, 10/10

I literally started reading goodnight punpun because juan carlos's "kalawakan" is one of my favorites, and I don't usually read mangas or anything so this is my first manga to read, so it's the middle of the night and I just finished the manga right now, I don't know what to feel about Goodnight Punpun... like I honestly really don't even know, but if there's one thing I know... is it that this tragic, yet beautiful story will leave a huge scar that will stay with me for the rest of my entire fucking life

This is a fantastic work! It fits the surreal feeling of the art without coming across as cringily emo. It embodies the underlying beauty of the manga's poignancy... the use of colors and the movement of images fit the pace of the story really well. This is by far my favorite punpun AMV.

I just finished oyasumi punpun yesterday, and now I'm searching videos about oyasumi punpun. I don't know what am I feeling right now, my chest feels so heavy, I want to cry but I can't.
I have to say, I started to read this manga at 9PM yesterday and beat it today because of this. And this hits harder than a fuckign truck, the song fits Punpun so fucking well man. I love this video and it really did summarize that arc.

I remember watching it a few months ago, then recently I decided to finally read it because of your animation! i remember going through most of the manga confused about when the things on this animation were gonna happen, and I was devastated when they finally did, I was expecting a somewhat happy ending because he was caring her in the end, but then I understood the context and re watching it again was heartbreaking, this animation is so beautiful, it's so impressing the way you were able to bring the atmospheric so well

Just finished reading the manga today and it was truly probably the best and worse decision I've made in my life. Reading this punched me hard and too many times were my emotions manipulated to the point where I just became numbed until the last chapter. Truly a masterpiece so is this fluid animation

Fanworks like this are as close as punpun should ever get to an anime. This is just so beautiful and you can really tell how much passion, love and understanding of the story is in this video and I just don't think a traditional anime could ever properly capture this melancholy feeling.
