- One person was killed after an attempted robbery at Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach. Multiple suspects have been arrested following a short police chase.

From a friend “A neighbor friend of mine witnessed the incident today at Fashion Island and gave a statement to police, according to her the fatality was NOT the result of a gunshot. The woman was run over. There were shots fired but according to her no one was hit.
This is what she shared: "We just witnessed the whole thing: they were trying to rip a Rolex off of an older man in front of atrium court, then grabbed the wife, tried to throw her in the car, she resisted and they ran her over and took off"
It's horrible either way, hopefully the news straightens out the story.”

That's about what the police just said in a press conference. A 69 year old woman in front of Barnes and Noble (with her husband I think), attempted robbery, the suspects tried to pull her into the street and she was run over or hit/struck by the car and died. One suspect shot from a handgun while fleeing but didn't hit anyone that the know of. Three suspects caught and arrested after a pursuit. Good work, NBPD or whatever agency it was.

It used to be unheard of, but having lived in Newport Beach my entire life, I've noticed a significant increase in violent criminal activity. This change coincides with George Gascon becoming the DA in LA. In contrast, the OC DA has put up signs along the freeway to warn violent criminals that they will be prosecuted in Orange County. There has been a notable drop in gun crime and violent crime prosecutions in Los Angeles under Gascon. Additionally, his policies on the early release of murderers and rapists are concerning. Recently, Gavin Newsom had to intervene to prevent Gascon from releasing murderers early. Despite these issues, LA voters seem ready to re-elect him. We have a serious problem on our hands.
But there is nothing the OC DA can do because Sacramento writes the criminal laws not the District Attorney. Prop 47 made it impossible to prosecute most crimes in CA and that doesn't change in Newport at all. Even Irvine has had a lot of thefts at Targets and Walmarts. Yes Irvine!
Vote with your feet and move out of the area, out of California, period.

I am sorry to hear this. Newport Beach CA is a beautiful high end city. The news stated they usually do not have problems there. It isn't the location anymore. It's unwanted company that intrudes a city. I hope they find and prosecute the suspect. This is all do to Biden"s flimsy law policies. The poor woman that was ran over by criminals is not acceptable. Very sad, but this was obviously not a hate crime. We need to address the root causes of crime... i.e. poverty, systemic racism and an unequal distribution of resources. These children need support for rehabilitation... punishment will only make them worse.
