1 F-22 Raptor Shot Down 5 F-15 Eagles In 2003

  • Many F-22 critics thought that the F-15 would be excellent enough to survive in the battlefields of tomorrow, and there's no need to replace it with the F-22 raptor, So, to silence the raptor critics, U.S Air Force did a mock combat exercise in March of 2003, in which they pitched 5 F-15 eagles against just 1 F-22 raptor. Point to be noted here is that these 5 F-15s were being flown by the experienced Raptor pilots, and the rules of engagement were very clear, kill the raptor, or be killed by the raptor. Both angry birds took off, and then came the action. None of the F-15 pilots were able to see the F-22, and all the sudden, they found that their free trial of living has been expired. F-15 pilots used all their tactics and countermeasures, but all failed badly against the raptor, and the only time they see the Raptor was when it flew directly overhead their cockpit at one point. One by one, F-22 shot down all 5 F-15s out of the sky, without sustaining a single scratch to it's body. Also in 2009, Just 1 F-22 shot down 6 Rafales during a mock combat.

It's too freaking expensive, per plane is about $150 million. It also has a very high maintenance cost, especially its sophisticated stealth coatings, which what helps make the jet so stealthy too. The Raptor is so excellent that Congress passed a federal law that bans any sale or export of the F-22 even to allies. And during its years of R&D, T&E & service, no other countries had a jet good enough to even fight the Raptor. Talk about air superiority, the F-15 has never been lost in air combat before, while achieving more than 100 air to air kills. So if other countries can't even take on the F-15, they are certainly not taking down the Raptor anytime soon. So that's why the Air Force reduced the purchase of F-22 from 700+ to 190+. I would have kept the number of F-22 up to around 300 before shutting down production.

In this same scenario Raptors have been shot down by T38 trainer jet, F16, F18 and F15.
Point of the exercise is to teach the rookie pilot's what to do in disadvantage.
Forth gen fighter pilot's know how it feels to be in disadvantage, get killed.
They are more alert and expirience because of this.
F22 and now F35 pilot's only know how it feels to win, be untouchable.

Nope. Not even close lol f22 has some secrets up its sleeve. However, the f35 paired with an f22 and f15, is capable of taking on entire flights of opponent aircraft. They now use interoperability. The f22, and f35 can use each others missiles, and targetting pods, on the front and rear of each other's aircraft. And if they both run out, they use the f15 as a missile mule. They were working on using drones for missile mules as well before i left the usaf. The raptor was discontinued because it was decided that we shouldnt spend the money on more, when we already have enough to take on any number of air forces combined... for the next 50yrs. The fact that an F-22 could shoot down five of them or get guns on five of them is amazing absolutely fantastic. You hear people talking about sixth generation Fighters they're making that are going to be able to take F-22 Raptor and they don't even have one in the air not one. A lot of people are still losing planes to f-16s, remember those? That was the budget plane that we made to sell to other countries and a lot of these Air Forces can't deal with them. I don't know. The f22 was designed to kill beyond visual range or bvr. It is also capable of defending itself up close or within visual range if it has to but that is very unlikely given its abilities. You wouldn't even know you have been targeted until you blow up. The longer you can remain undetected, the better the chances of getting a kill. This debate can go on for a long time.I do enjoy reading all the comments, though.
