And it seems almost all the Russian soldiers in Ukraine right now are still running AK74's. If they have the production capacity to supply the Indian military, why not their own military? The only other reason would be they don't want to or don't have the money to spend arming their own troops. This is not a criticism in anyway but more me just thinking out loud

They basically looked at what the American civies we're doing to modernize their AKs and decided to apply those upgrades to their weapons. It's not new.
Why isn't Russia arming it's own military with these modernized AK rifles? Yet they are apparently available in weapon contracts to other countries. Most of the AK's I have seen in use by Russian troops in Ukraine have been AK74's. Honest question.
There are footage of Russian troops using the AK-12 as a matter of fact, specially guard units, Chechens, spetsnaz and other troops that are considered the tip of the spear. It is no rare that other troops are given older material, which also happens in other armies. This is recurrent among reserve units called up for battle, engineers, mortar men and others. You can see both rifles in the front, as well as AS VAL, etc.
Because they have no money to buy the weapons they develop, as you can also see for tanks, airplanes etc. But if a country ask for those products (and can afford them) they can deliver without problems. Just that.
@Nikola S. I mean it allows you to mount optics, flashlights, foregrips, IR lasers, etc. Although it seems like Russia doesn’t or rarely issues any of those items.
@Nikola S. Just say Russia is broke and keep it moving. Do you know how retarded you sound you can’t shoot what you can’t see. It’s a reason a lot of armies are issuing their inf with IR modules/illuminatiors. You can’t expect the army that doesn’t even give their soldiers a $100 reddot to issue IR modules or NVGs that cost thousands to regular troops.
5.56*45mm round is useless. It proved to ineffective even in the Vietnam war where even after been shot for 5 rounds form the M-16!the vietcong soldiers kept on coming this demoralising the American soldiers. Time and again it proved ineffective not to mention the Second Iraq war and the second Afghan war. Indian army also learnt the hard way of the ineffective Ness of the 5.56*45 mm round in ci ops where even after been shot by 5 rounds the terrorist were still in the fight and effectively returning fire.. The next is .65 mm creedmore round with good knockout power.
@@MrKamei well there are two components, from military's pov its economical, its lighter, means more volume, cost, smaller guns etc. from civilian pov (esp) but also military personnel, its more weight to carry if the caliber is bigger, platform (gun) is heavier, either same amount of bullets are heavier or need to carry less which is always worse recoil hits harder. so particularly, military planners are trying to match the calibre with range and protection level of threat and by its inherent nature its speculative. for us who have hindsight can always dunk on them but things are not always so cut and dry. Just trying to give you some perspective.
@Harpreet Singh Pannu 6.8x51 SIG and the SIG MCX Spear hasn't been combat proven yet. There's negatives to that system. Operating pressure is obnoxiously high at 80K PSI. Even with the CHF barrel, the barrel will be greatly reduced by throat erosion and gas port erosion. The ammo itself is a full power rifle caliber based upon the case size of 7.62 NATO. Less magazine capacity 20rds. More recoil. It is difficult to control in fully automatic fire from a rifle. Heavier ammo means less rounds troops can carry vs intermediate sized calibers like 5.56 NATO, 5.45x39, and 7.62x39. The cartridge case is expensive and complex to manufacture due to the bi metal design of a steel case head and brass case. Each cartridge has to be x-rayed to ensure no defects between the 2 sections. The steel case head is critical to prevent the rifle's bolt from damage. The bolt can not withstand the 80KPSI chamber pressure nor the cartridge itself without this steel case head. I don't think the 6.8x51 makes much sense in a select-fire rifle. The reduction in ammo capacity, greater recoil, and the increased weight of the rifle, the increased weight of ammo will hinder suppressive fire and maneuver tactics. The only weapons where the 6.8x51 would beat legacy full power .30 caliber rounds like 7.62 NATO and 7.62x54R are in DMR rifle, Sniper rifle, and GP machine gun. But again, it has yet to be seen how proven the new SIG MCX Spear battle rifle and XM250 machine gun. Nothing is really getting tested by the US military until 2023.
@@Enjoyer.762 That's why the MCX spear or the M-5 rifle designed by Sig is a totally different rifle as compared to its predecessor...
