    5.56 and 7.62 NATO Kalashnikovs are not new at all. They've been around for years. This doesn't signal any strategic shift in regards to ammunition usage or anything like that. Kalashnikov Concern needed to develop this manufacturing capability to stay competitive in the export market, and they did it years ago. It's like, the absolute bare minimum. If they hadn't done it, people would be questioning their decision-making abilities.
    Lol this is not really news.

      Funny how even russian special forces threw it away into garbage for AK74M. Has shitty safety that gets people killed and the mussel is shit. Its like they tried to turn AK into M4A1 but made neither but a trash mud gun. They used some over complicated system that gets rid of recoil but it doesnt work right and jams all the time. The no recoil is cool but its not made right. Its like using the old King Tiger engine in the T14. Sounds good but doesnt work. 10 years later and still no T14s.

      ALL excuses for poor people. No country with real money uses them.....why is that if they are supposed to be so reliable?. I fought 6 years in the Rhodesian bush war..... we used captured enemy weapons regularly...and they were the shitz. Preferred the the Belgian FN FAL or its variants: the British-made L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle (L1A1 SLR) and the South African R1 over Russian crap any day. I do admit the RPK Light Machine Gun was an exceptional weapon, however, it required 2 men to operate efficiently because of its right hand feed. Why do you think any army using them is defeated anyways? Look at Russia in Ukraine today. They curse their own inferior weapons.

    • @fematrailer
      @fematrailer Год назад +8

      Come now. I agree that they're pretty good and have a pretty decent resume, but the Kalashnikov platform has been a bit of a dead-end design for a while now. Even the Soviets knew that as far back as the 70's. The cost was the biggest advantage the systems had, but manufacturing and material science has advanced to the point where that's not even really true anymore. People in Myanmar are 3d printing stuff that's just as reliable and costs basically nothing.

    • @BigDonKedick
      @BigDonKedick Год назад

      Low cost years ago lol unless you want a WASR 10. They’re still relatively cheap but you can get started ARs for cheaper than some better quality AKMs. And you think the AK-12 or this would be cheap? 😂 and they use the 5.45x39 round, not the original AK round in 7.62x39. The AR has better accuracy and the ballistics of the AR and the AK-12 are very similar in performance, so your “superb punch”😂 doesn’t make any sense.

    I live in America, and over a decade ago acquired four Saiga Sporter Rifles which were imported from Russia, and have had one converted to have the correct type furniture and a new FSB for a 24 mm brake, and that was converted to take Bulgarian Arsenal waffle mags in 5.56. I have a Chinese BWK 92 Sporter as well. The main problem with any 5.56X45 rifles imported into the USA is that there is such a wide variation in the magazines used in that caliber of rifle as manufactured in other Nations. I have had to do a good bit of searching for magazines that are compatible. Altogether I have 10 5.56 AK Variant Rifles from various makers. In the USA Palmetto State Armory has a 5.56 Variant also, in addition to their US mfg 7.62X39 and 5.45 Variants and 9mm Variants, and they are an excellent US Manufactured AK Variant with the G3 (Generation 3) and above rifles.

      Lol! Really! Russia went to war with a 2nd world country and every piece of Armour they threw at them was destroyed. Russia barely has any tanks left. Any armored tank or vehicle can be easily destroyed with current weapons. What matters is how they are used and tactics. The Russian military tried the old soviet doctrine of throwing volume at an enemy and unfortunately for the soldiers in went really bad. The Ukrainian should have learned from that but it doesn't seem like they have.

    • @onewade1974

      Also there is no Russian war machine there is a lot of old outdated tactics that threw hundreds of thousands of good men that didn't want to be there to their death! If you want to talk about tanks then let's. With today's weapons, any tank can be taken out. What you want in a tank is survivability! If a tank is hit then you want the crew to survive and Russian tanks have proven to be death traps. The way they were designed and where the ammo is located makes almost any hit completely destroy the tank and its crew!

Russia is the top country regarding hyperonic weapons, Russia not only have them in service, but also Russia is using it during the conflict. USA is behind 10 years at least... Regarding ammo calibers.... You clearly do not know much about it. Every round has some advantages and disadvantages. USA´s new round is big mistake IMHO. The only advantage is big power and longer distance capability. However non of that could be usefull in Ukraine, soldiers have no chance to shoot at each other at longer distances, mostly kill each other at very close range where Russia´s 5,45mm round is very good. (Up to 300m). On the other hand bigger round like the one you mentioned has many weak points: 1) short barrel life due to high preassure..
      2) Smaller magazine capacity
      3) Soldiers can carry far less ammo due to the weight
      4)Guns must be heavier too.
      5) Finaly, the biggest disadvantage-huge recoil, very bad for good precission, very bad for new soldiers.
      Means this new round could be an advantage in Afghanistan for instance (open places without much of tall grass , bush and so on) , however it would be just big pain in countries like Ukraine(I bet soldiers in Ukraine would not prefere this round over the smaller once)

In the captured weapons bunker on Hill#34 outside Danang, the South Vietnamese had thousands of captured weapons, the CHICOM and Russian AKs were the worse quality and the Polish, Bulgarian, Hungaian were some of the best! All, no matter how well made were still only 200m accuracy weapons! In addition their lacquered steel cases, usually rusty, were NOT conducive for good accuracy!@@briant5685

    I hate to be the one to rain on your parade Putin, but NATO is eyeing a new calibre in 6.8mm.
    The military is adopting a 6.8x51 cartridge, which is more powerful than 7.62 because it is loaded to higher pressure.
    To handle this higher pressure, the cartridge case has a steel reinforced area near the headstamp, sort of like a belted magnum.
    The 6.8 bullet itself has a better ballistic coefficient than military 7.62 bullets have. So the 6.8x51 launches at a higher velocity than 7.62, and loses less velocity over distance to drag than 7.62 bullets do. This gives the 6.8x51 a longer effective range than the 7.62x51.
    Best of all it is only manufactured so far by SIG though the US Army will begin under licence soon, expect other NATO armies to adopt in short order

      Maybe for export or for using captured ammunitions. Russia has been using 5.45mm for their rifles for a long time now (since the ak74 has been introduced, i believe).
      If i am to guess, this switch is probably because the 5.45mm/5.56mm are more suitable calibers for assault rifles (lighter, more stable) while the 7.62mm are more suitable for light to medium machine guns (for suppression)
