Just google! Everyone knows what that means ;) yet another awesome project though, thumbs up!
Natural Nerd ill make sure he gets to pay for his games.
I believe it means "I have no issue monetizing a video exploiting the rom files, but I'm going to take the high road on the legality of using them". So I'll tell you: Google 'pleasuredome'
or it means: "look, I am building a cool arcade machine"!
I am not sure why this is controversial archive.org are achieving and making available tons of old software and emulation tools including many of these games. There is a specific DMCA exemption to preserve vintage software they are operating under.
Thanks guy its worth a look just for the three stooges episodes
"Really old monitor"
So that's why my school has like 300 of them.
tatoPOTATO my school had them aroung 2 years ago but we got some now samsung ones, still the same pc tho
tatoPOTATO my school has those monitors as well!
Yeah, it's called 'Old School' :D
at least you got those...
we still have cathode tube monitors over here
They are great as a very inexpensive 2nd monitor.
Oh man, I've been dreaming about building a full-size cabinet for YEARS. But this little thing is so much more reasonable. Have you seen the crazy pinball machines people are building with big HDTVs as the play surface? Really neat.
BKXC Just checked out the virtual pinball builds, didn't know it was a thing, they are amazing! Thanks for the heads up.
Haha, yep, get ready to go down the rabbit hole!
BKXC what are you doing here???!!!!
BKXC try to make a bottom stand to make it a full sized one.

The digital plans are now available so that you make your own bar top arcade!!

*for those asking, the printable temples are at the bottom of the .pdf. Print those and UNcheck "scale to fit" to get them to print at full size.
Thank you for the plans bob, best I could find at a really reasonable price, I look forward to trying this for myself!!
I Like To Make Stuff Hey bob, I bought your plans for the Bartop arcade and when I prong out the 2 templates it only prints on one piece of paper. Any way to fix it. Thanks
Since the ipac is $40, if people are only going to do a 2 person build I think the control block from petrock block is better for this build at roughly the same cost ($40 plus shipping to the USA). Gives connections for a switch for the pie and an led indicator for boot up and boot down times.
I Like To Make Stuff
Just one question, how much does the whole project cost, including RetroPi, iPac, cabinett, LEDs etc.?
I've also bought the plans but can't print the side plan to scale it only prints out on one piece of paper how can i print out to scale plz
The only one who will dislike it is bowser...
Oh, HE's the one who always dislikes my videos!!! ;)
hole - 1st drill press channel lol

"Just Google..." lol
Now if that doesn't sound suspicious.. lol
I saw this comment right when he said it lol
would be cool if you could make a pinball machine, full size or mini! i like to think it would require a lot of different materials and techniques
Bob, thank you for this video! I just finished mine with your plans and it's a big hit with the fam.
My mods:
I used an old Dell monitor soundbar mounted on top of the marquee for sound. Volume knob and headphone jack are built-in and readily accessible.
Salvaged a 4:3 19" monitor so had to widen cabinet a few inches, but bigger screen. And it was free!
Salvaged a removable fan vent for the bottom to access controls wiring.
Added a switched power plug to rear door and integrated with salvaged power strip inside.
Total project cost was under $200.
Love the smaller version
Thanks!
Something I have always as a child made of cardboard. It has never funkitoniert: D great video! Greetings MrHandwerk
MrHandwerk It never worked u ment right? btw im German
No, unfortunately not. I was 10 years old. : D
:D
@Joe Blow Yeah that's not really that hard. Nintendo Labo + Switch = Arcade. This is good
Turned out great! if you wanted a different want to diffuse the light on the lexan, you could sand another piece and sandwich your logo between them. Might give a nice frosted look.
your channel should be renamed to: "I Like To Make Awesome Stuff"
:) Thanks!
2 minutes in and it's already too much work...
I nicked the very tip of my left middle finger with the table saw :(
And to think I was just getting ready to recycle the same monitor i have in my garage. I dig all your stuff Bob thanks for being a consistent source of inspiration. Happy thanks giving to you and yours.
Thanks so much! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!!
Perfect timing Bob!! Was going to follow your other build and try scale it down for a Christmas present for my nephew!
Well played sir! Thanks & Keep it up!
do you think could do this with just regular tools and a circular saw
Definitely
You do need a wide drill for the button holes
@@hiddel3358 You would want to generally use a Forstner bit to do them so they stay straight and clean but I've done it with a spade bit, a bit of patience and another piece of wood behind to help minimize blowthrough. They are 1 1/8 but should also fit through a 1" to 1 1/4" hole.
Hello, I have a question, and if anyone could help that would be awesome. So I want to make this cabinet and want to play a game that is on a cd rom drive intended for a windows machine. Is there any way I could make it work with this and have the buttons work for it too. Thanks
Nice video. I think this will need to be a build with my son.
BronkBuilt of course yes
I always feel obligated to make a joke when I'm early but then I remember I'm really not funny
the wood work was great the electronics part not so much.... why didnt you take out the speaker coil out of the black plastic cover and mount each sides of the top of the cabinet , and make a back cover to hide the guts if youre using in your living room
This is great, i have been debating between the full size and the bar top. Now i have both options from you!
Very cool Bob. I would probably never make the full sized version... but I have an old monitor and HDMI adapter, so this version is a possibility. Thanks again for the great content.
Great to hear Ryan!!
Lexan...... Thank you.. I have been preaching this stuff for about 6 months.. even made a video and had Giaco whatever look into it... By the way... he used it with a laser and... well it didnt work out... But it's amazing stuff.. I have a video on my channel showing Lexan Vs Acrylic if anyones not sure of the difference.( Huge difference) Great video Bob. - Brian
Does anyone know why this didn't show up in my sub box?
LM10HD idk sometimes that happens to me too
Theres a Glitch in youtube that alot of videos arnt showing up in Suboxes and sidebars or recommended for some reason.
I actually found this in my recommended videos and I had to do a double take because I thought it was the old (bigger) version of it. Then I saw the upload time and instaclicked.
Unfortunately that's been happening to lots of people with lots of channels. Hopefully RUclips will correct it soon :/
Beautiful work brother
Your video inspired me not to make an arcade machine (this I intend to do the big version of the previous videos) but to make a jukebox / karaoke machine
Congratulations on the work and continue posting expensive quality videos, you go far
Ps: sorry for English, I'm Brazilian and I'm using google translator, I understand English well, but I'm not good at writing in this language
Thanks so much!
I loved the popsicle trick :)
can you make the nintendo switch with an raspberry pi 0, baterry and wood?
Vinícius13 _HD nope
No matter how many of these you make, they will always be a fun video aand project to watch! Thanks for sharing!
Im making a sun dial for my state exam in woodwork next year, can you make one of them to show me what to do? Thanks so much I love your videos! Keep up the good work!
Nice! When I made my sides, I used a 6mm mdf panel glued to a 9mm mdf panel. I routed out 3mm border from the 9mm panel first. This gave me a great 15mm panel with perfect 3mm grove for the T rubber moulding. The advantages of this method is common router bits can be used instead of a 3mm slit cutter, simple and it is accurate AF!.
A far better design here, needs extending out to the other design uses.
I just thought about that with a walnut finished body and rounded edges, and it made me scream
How do you do the buttons and stuff? Can someone give me the link to a video explaining it? (If it's in the video I'm too busy to watch it, I just want to know)
Great tutorial, thanks! I am currently collecting the stuff I need for a cabinet build. I bought a Viewsonic monitor recently that was originally 16.00 bucks but I got it for 1/2 off! I guess once the motherboards no longer had the old VGA connectors and the manufacturers went to HDMI, people got rid of their old monitors which still work great. I fired up the Viewsonic and it works perfectly. Thanks again.
that's awesome ,the electronics part scares me though ,it seems easy watching you connect everything but it just overwhelms me
Hey Bob,
When you made your full-size arcade cabinet, you made custom vinyl graphics that you sent over to Mastro Graphics, the New York company. Since my friends and I are wanting to get vinyl graphics for our own project, what software would you recommend using to made the designs as a high-quality pdf? Also, how much did your vinyls cost, so I can get an idea of cost.
Keep up the amazing work! Can't wait to see you at 1 Million!
Thanks so much! Well, my artist drew the artwork digitally (I assume using photoshop but I don't know). We compiled the images to their final shape in Photoshop. Unfortunately I don't know the costs as they were gracious enough to give me the prints for free in return for shouting them out in my video.
I'm thankful for Bob who inspired me to build my arcade this thanksgiving
dude I love your videos, keep up the good work...
Thank you!!
I Like To Make Stuff, would you recommend an impact driver if I already have a cordless drill. and can I buy the template/plans for this one on your website?
Amir Karimabad The impact driver isn't necessary but it is pretty handy if you can get one. I don't have plans for this smaller machine, but I may release the template for the side panel and control panel soon (when I get some time to prep the files)
I Like To Make Stuff cool thank you very much :)
I Like To Make Stuff i want to try to make one :) but my english is not the best cuz im dutch
Does the Arduino needs any programming, firmware or what to control the circuit?
This dude makes it seem like everyone and their mother has all these machines and tools just sitting around in their garage
You could do this entire project with just hand tools if you wanted to. He’s just showing you how he decided to do it with the tools he happens to have.
If you are in the USA, harbor freight is your friend. In Canada, princess auto. You could have nearly all the tools he uses here, minus the table and band saw, for about $200. They will be fine for building this little arcade machine, or even a few of them. Professional level, no. but workable. (air compressor, brad nailer, jig saw, circle saw, drill, router, hand tools, bits, bobs, and blades...)
That's a good size, Bob! Turned out great.
Wordsnwood (Art Mulder) Yes magazine
I am 100% going to do this for our taproom in my brewery! Any idea if you'll be doing plans for this smaller cabinet?
I will be putting some out when I get the time to put them together.
Man, I need to build this. Or perhaps a table top controller with a raspberry Pi that I could run into my home theater receiver. No screen needed!
I know it's a 5 year old video but I need help or a guide in doing this for a 13" CRT Monitor as it is different than the lcd panal cut out and mounting.
Nice, now you'll have your arcade machine at the maker faire again!! 🤓👍🏼
That turned out great!
Thanks dude!
The P.I. Workshop who watches these kinds of videos but never make it
Brady Mann is that a question? Or are you saying that I won't ever build one?
No I accidentally wrote it as a reply on yours
When I eventually Make mines, it will have a single player and instead of wiring up all the electronics, I’m going to simply install the whole controller into a box to save all the wiring hassle, since I’ll be using a “Pandora’s Box 5S”
my question is what software are u using to get the actual emulations on the screen
I'm gonna make my own. These things cost a fortune to buy from a company. £1300 🤣🤣🤣 no thanks I'll get a £10 monitor, £20 mdf, some t molding and make it myself. Even buying the games board assembled it'll only be £150. That's with 2200 games. 🤣🤣🤣
A lot of your projects are big and take a lot of time. Maybe you could do a few little gadgets or nick nacks that you can teach us how to build
9:14 now you say it. top secrret allready 1990
Could you use the dimensions of the height and width and then it into a full size instead of a bartop?

Obtaining games for an emulation device can be difficult. If you are worried about the legality of things, you could cheat and make this emulation device using a SNES, NES, or combo system and use physical carts (to avoid emulation entirely). If you wish to use emulation, you can make copies of your own video games (which manufacturers do not recommend for several reasons) using proper software and hardware. If you are worried about damages to your games, the legal gray area I'm familiar with is downloading games that you own physical copies of. This implies that you already have the physical copy and given the means, you would have made a copy but you didn't so you obtained your copy from the Internet. Again, gray area, but that's the "most legal" way I'm familiar with again.

Nice! Best technics which can solve most problems 1. The Brain 2. Google :)
134 unlike? Rly? Hungry zombi must kill u all... I dream full arcade machine in my room :( great video Mr.good luck u are my god moving sensor is great idea... This small beauty too. Cheers from Poland. Sub +
I've been toying around the idea to buy arcade machine electronics kit for my son for xmas. And then we could spend weekend or two making it to actual machine.
On podcast Jimmy made suggestion that you should spray paint picture on side. Find here on youtube "simply sara art". She makes really cool 4 tone spray paint art, you could paint sides with that technique since you are missing project for next weel ;)
Alright so look. I’m a 15 year old freshman in hs and I’m trying to build something like this for my dad. I expreoenced with computers but I’m talking about softwares a programs not really hardware. So I have a question. Is it possible for me to just order a cabinet off Craig’s list and use my old monitor and hook up my old laptop to it, put it inside the cabinet, and use my emulators I have on in for this? I know I have to find a way to make the buttons on the cabinet work but would my ideas be like a basic project?
I was going to make a little single play arcade, but burnt out the 10" monitor...so I decided to upscale, but need to get some player 2 controls, then I will start the bartop arcade...all that waffle aside, this design slightly modified for my donor monitor will be perfect!
Will you be publishing plans for this? I have one half-way built out of MDF. I'm ready to scrap it and start over.
I'm going to try to get them published on my site next week.
Regarding connection to the GPIO on the raspberry, for a 2 player setup do you also need the IPAC? I thought the GPIO on the Rp would be enough... can anyone help me please?
All fun and games untill you see what kind of equipmentment you need to make all this. :P
Can I ask how you power the LED lights in the controls? The ones I have found need to have a 12 volt molex. Obviously with a RPI you don't have that.
I’m doing the same thing but a lot machine running off my old gaming pc, button are arcade buttons in which I just tapped into a keyboard to simulate a key switch. Used launch box to run on phantom and vms slots. Now I just need the enclosure
I have problems with the buttons. Which buttons are start, select? The two buttons in the middle? But then have only player start and select or linked you start and select with player one and two? I am confused ^^'
I bought the plans a while back. But my PC crashed is there a way to get a partial replacement set?. The file got corrupted and i only recovered up to the button layout..page 20 I think the top of the bartop. Thanks
but how do you google the "google" JK - awesome project
How to do you play Capcom best games with only 4 buttons? And no scanlines? Great job at cutting wood; but for the technical part... Too many rookie mistakes.
-downloads emulators on laptop
-downloads roms
-grabs cheap arcade keyboard template
-makes frame from cardboard
*done*
is the marquee only cosmetic? I'm just thinking it adds quite a bit of complexity. if I make one if probably want to add it for the look anyway, but curious.
I have one I use my Xbox one and I play tekken tag 2 street fighter 4 and injustice 2 mortal Kombat X and also play shooting games also I didn't made it too high so I can site and play my games I didn't use lighting bcz it's a waste of time and didn't paint it just use good ply wood
So how do you know how many buttons? I notice 6 plus a joystick? I think from my childhood that most of these games back then didn't have 6 buttons usually just a couple.
Awesome job man! I just bought all the parts to build my retro pi inside of an NES game cartridge. If I get the space in my poker room, I may need to add this in there too!
Nice!
Cool, I'm building my bar top cabinet too, I'm making the control panel larger though. It feels too cramped with 2 people playing.
Dude you're seriously jerking me around at this point I watched a couple of your videos but when you cut something out cuz this isn't the first arcade cabinet I've seen you make you you trace it once and you cut it out and then you sand it and everything why don't you just line up two layers of plywood and make one cut for two sides I the front in the back are different but I remember taking shop class man you doing a left and right cut of the exact same shape just put two layers and cut two layers at once instead of recutting it and using the second layer as a Trace cuz you're still going to have to send them anyway and if you sand them together they're going to be uniform together
I just found out this channel and is awesome, is the 1st of my favorites list (of course after my channel, just kidding, mine it's not that awesome) great job, great explanation, great videos. thank you.
I’m coming back to this video 5 years after I made my first table top arcade now and I’m now working on a full arcade. I forgot how great this video was at explaining things
I'm gonna be honest, whenever I search for roms all I find is a bunch of viruses hahs. Also bob, instead of cutting that access hole in the bottom, what about using some magnets to hold the top panel in place. That way it's secure but you can still get to it?
Very nice but you have a lot of tools. It's look like very much difficult for me :(
(sorry if my engklish is so bad i'm not english...)
How is it holding up. I always stay clear of plywood because it's tends to warp over time. Particle board or Mdf is what I like to use but always wanted to use plywood but not sure if it will warp over the years.
Siesque tiene herramientas para todo, asi da gusto.
I love your videos, but would it be possible to do a video tutorial showing how to trace it in illustrator and create the template at scale? I made this after I bought your plans but I want to make my own but I can't find a video showing how to make the template.
how does everyone get 1,000+ games on the retro pi in such a short amount of time because I don't wont to download 1,000 roms manually can anyone help plz
Obviously, Black Melamine would have been the stuff they used to make the original arcade cabinet. They do in fact make it in 1/2", I'm currently building something for a client in white, and am also using T-Molding from Outwater.
I did one a school project for almost two years ago. Here is a link to the project page www.sweclockers.com/galleri/12990-project-arcade . Its in Swedish but i think you can translate it ;)
Don't use plywood lol it's a horrible wood for something like this. Chips, and has a horrid service. Just get smooth wood.
So this is off topic but I want to make something out of plywood but I want to be able to leave it outside without it degrading as well as making it not look like wood. I am going for like a plastic or just a smooth look. Is there a coating that would help where maybe I apply it and then sand it smooth?
I also understand everyone don't have all these tools you was using...
maybe you should have use less tools to make it more relatable to other's whom can't afford to buy these tools or don't have excess to them...I was once one of those guys but slowly but surely I was able to purchase the tools I needed to get the job done...
Thanks again for the inspiration Brother! I don't have all the fancy tools that you do, but I have been contemplating making a gaming setup like this one for a while now, but using and Android setup and Wii remote controls 🎮... Maybe I can entice you on doing such a project with me and on your channel...? 👍 Happy Thanksgiving and I will message you about this idea soon. 💡 ~Ben~
It's easy for you with sponsored tools. Most of us dont have a $1000.00 table saw. How about showing how to do something with basic tools?
any update when the plans will be on your website?
Could you do video on how to design and create the pdf plans for a bartop arcade please? Also how to create the button holes? I would like to create my own design but don't know how to create the pdf at full scale?
awesome build, got a project just like that in the making...
have the same problem, not that much space so tabletop is the ideal
as usual great video, thanks :D
Hi,do you think on the cabinet will fit a pc I mean mother board, power supply,ETC....
very nice! I like that you included links for parts and tools.
Could you do video on how to design and create the side and control panel pdf plans for a bartop arcade please? Also how to create the button holes? I would like to create my own design but don't know how to create the pdf at full scale?
downloading games rom is illegal ..you could get arrested for that
Great, but still requires thousands on tools that I don't have. :(
if you had to guess, how much do you estimate this project would cost. even if we skipped out on the led buttons and such and just used regular unlit buttons.
