With that said I take my hat off to all the warehouse worker's I learned that it's not a easy job when you have to stand for nine or ten hours, while the supervisor can go and sit down and rest themselves, I have all the respect for what you do now.

I got 2 15min breaks in 10 hr and the 1/2 hour lunch. I never did the water spider job. But I did do a couple other jobs there. The pace is relentless. If you’re in like the lower 20% on your numbers someone will show up with their clipboard and start asking questions. There is a camera on everyone. Sometimes they will review that to see what may be slowing you down. I saw so many people screwing around it was amazing. You were not supposed to use your phone at all while working but I saw people on their phone for the whole shift. Some watched videos all night. You could usually see anyone coming giving them ample time to avoid getting caught. Some people took a bathroom break every hour for like 15 minutes. If asked they would claim some medical condition. One girl said she was diabetic and had to eat something every hour. That means she was in the lunchroom every hour for 15 minutes. Even with weed being illegal where I live you could smell weed all the time. At lunch the same people would rush out to their car to drink alcohol and smoke a blunt. Some would vape it all night long at their station. So it may suck to work there sometimes but the company also has to deal with a lot of useless workers.

Sortation area is the easiest job at amazon. Try doing order selector that has a dry, cold, and freezer section where you need to hit over 180 cases an hour and each one weighing 50-95 lbs and if people called in which is like almost everyday you would have to do a 16 hour shift a day. Amazon pay is shit but the good thing is the job is super light and easy and you get to pick your days and time with your shift, you dont have to work the straight 8-16 hours a day, you get some gaps to take another shift meaning you can eat, rest, and stretch out your body to relax before hitting the next shift. I actually do Amazon part time now during holidays only for that extra christmas money to get my family and friends some decent gifts. Since I have a solid 40 hour warehouse job somewhere else I only do Amazon five days 4 hours each at late shift. That extra paycheck really helps out a lot during the holidays.

At 5 days a week that nets you $4,000 pre tax. Assuming 30% is taken out for taxes and benefit premiums you are left with $2,800. In my town the cheapest apartments are $1,800 for tiny 1 bedrooms. That leaves you with $1,000 a month to cover gas, insurance, utilities food, household needs, any healthcare deductibles, etc....
It's not a question of keeping spending low, the cost of living is high, and the minimum wage was designed to be the minimum salary a person needed to support a family with basic needs.
At this wage a person couldn't support themselves, much less a family. There is zero reason to pay employees this little, especially from a multi billion dollar company like Amazon.

Knowingly starting a family making 20/ an hour is selfish. Yes there is zero reasons for a multi billion $ company to pay that low. But there is also zero reason to complain because that gets you no where. I’d love to complain abt my parents not being rich but that gets me no where.

@@pimpmac4993 The average taken out of a paycheck for taxes + benefits is 30%. My math is an accurate based on averages, your single anecdote is not proof of anything other than the how averages work.
Knowingly. So for example, people who are divorced, widowed, etc.. and are working the only job they can after the primary earner is no longer present are selfish. Got it.
Not everyone has parents they can move in with, and renting rooms is nice - if available. I just looked at Craigslist the closest room to where I live (which is close to but not in a major city) under $1,400 is almost an hour away.
Minimum wage was instituted to be the minimum wage needed to raise a family on a single income. If minimum wage had matched inflation as it was supposed to have done, it would be a national average of $26.16/hour.
Regions with higher cost of living should have higher minimum wages.
Advocating for a union to change the situation does get you places, it is the proper way to address grievances, and is often the only way to compel employers to pay a decent wage. Since they'll spend billions lobbying congress to avoid having to spend millions on higher wages.

The sawmill I work at starts probationary employees out on greenchain at $20hr, with a $2 pay raise once you’re a full employee. A month after getting off probation, I got promoted to grader and started making $26hr. Yes, greenchain sucks. But as long as you have good attendance and make a visible effort, management goes out of their way to get you an easier and higher paying position. Also, this is the first job I’ve ever had where I get weekends and holidays off.
