Thank you again for this very detailed how-to of the entire process. You make it look very easy. I don't have strong hands and the rubbery things were a bit difficult to remove and insert. Also the top metal part was a little bent, probably from my crash a year ago, but nothing a plier wouldn't fix.
Great video! It greatly helped when installing my light. One thing i noticed is that there are actually some rubber slots on either side of the lens that you also need to transfer to the Gecko light. They help secure the front cowling. Doesn't change the functionality, but may keep you from rattling! Cheers
I've just checked my original light and you are right, I missed those rubber bits. I haven't noticed any rattling but I'll definitely move them across. I might do an update video to let others know about those bits. Thanks for letting me know.
@@TreesAndWheels did you do an update video for these parts? Planning to install this light on my Vulcan S soon with your video here and wanna make sure I don't miss any pieces.
This will be the excellent addition to the front end of the Vulcan S I'm planning to get and do before I take it out at night for riding! Great presentation of the install process. Doug👍🏍️🤓🐻
Thank you very much for your response 'Mr Gecko'. It seems that it would also be possible to adjust the left and right beam position by adding washers to the rear of the headlight top bracket. It would take some experimentation to get the light positioned exactly where it should be, and obviously it would not be as accurate as the adjusters in the stock headlight, but it would be a solution.
Can you do a vid - how to install a 12v plug charger please 😬 your vids are really informative 👍👍👍. I just got my Kawasaki Vulcan 650s. Learned a lot from your vids 😃
The bike is off the road with no mot at the moment. I should be getting it mot'd soon so I'll let you know. But, even it is an issue, it's a simple job to change back for the MOT.
No it won’t void void the warranty because it’s plug and play so no changes or additions to the wiring. If you’re worried, keep the original and swap it back before getting any warranty work done 🙂
No, no es así, pero la salida de luz parece ser la misma que la del faro original. In case the translation doesn't make sense... The light beam pattern from the original headlight and the Matt Gecko headlight appear to be very similar. It does not have an 'E' mark, but it should still be ok (depending on your laws).
No, it doesn't, and because of that it isn't approved. However, the lighting beam pattern is the same as the original so it won't be a problem dazzling other road users.
My bike isn't due for an mot for a few years yet so I haven't had it checked 'officially' but my unscientific tests (drawing lines and markings on a whiteboard) seem to show a very similar beam pattern and nothing that would cause concern to any oncoming traffic.
I own a Matt Gecko LED headlight. I love the style, brightness and shine of the light, but after two years you still can't aim the headlight? I also notice the LED ring around the perimeter of the headlight isn't as bright was when installed. You can see the connection joints rather than a continuous ring.
That's a shame about the Led ring around the light diminishing in intensity over time... I wonder if it possible to open the headlight and reseat the led connectors? No idea if that would work. As for adjusting, you can 'hack' some adjustments for up and down by using washers (on the lower connectors to raise up, and on the top mounts to lower the light beam). I'm thinking of an engineering solution to allow left and right adjustment, but at the moment it would require moving the whole headlight forward by about 10-15 mm.
The LED ring is okay. Not as bright but looks fine. I put some thick rubber washers on the mounting bolts to lower the beam slightly. I ended up using different thicknesses of washers to aim the light to the left ever so slightly. @@TreesAndWheels
The Headlight unit isn't e-marked (but the MOT regulations changed recently)so I don't know if that would impact the MOT test. My very un-scientific test using roughly measured lines on a whiteboard showed the beam pattern to be within tolerances and much the same as the stock headlight. I'm not sue an MOT for 2 years, and the unit is easy enough to change back if necessary (even if just for the MOT).
It depends on what you mean by plug and play. You don’t have to cut any wires, they fit to existing connectors, but you do have to remove the fittings and surround from the existing headlight and put them on the Matt gecko light.
The shape of the light is part of the bike’s style, but you can get round halo lights to fit the Vulcan if you want your bike to look like a Honda Rebel 😂🤪
@@TreesAndWheels almost everyone I've ever talked to about this bike hates the headlight and mentions it's one reason they would never buy one. Personally, I'm still considering it but it's near the bottom of my list (it's a short list) and the headlight is part of that reason. I'd be more than happy to change the headlight myself, but something purpose built like this will be way better than any of the other solutions I've seen, that just aren't good enough/look right.
@@TreesAndWheels PS, if I could get a Rebel 1100 for anywhere near this price, or even find a brand new one for anywhere near MSRP, I wouldn't even be looking at these. That bike is better in every possible way and it's not even close. Which explains why they're almost impossible to find, and I can find these for less than $6,000 everywhere I turn. All that being said, this is a pretty fun bike to ride and I could customize it to a point that I'd be happy with it I think.
@@TreesAndWheels I've seen his videos, and that one in particular. Not a fan. Sorry, I already have one fitted to the bike, so I have no need to install another.
i wonder if this will pass inspection in EU, i now just barley pass it with a led replacement bulb.
I know that it passed the UK MOT, but I have no idea for anywhere else in the EU
How do you make the headlamp flash?
You can flash the headlight by using the 'Pass' button or flick between low beam & high beam.
Have you had any issues with the headlight when it comes to the MOT?

I'm just curious, do you think the light would blind other drivers or is it perfect amount of light ?
The beam pattern is mostly the same as the original headlight, so it shouldn't dazzle any other road users, it's just a brighter (lighter) light.
