Being an original member of Eddie Cheba's Cheba Crew I know by far he was number 1 in my book. It wss 4 of us ladies who followed him around to his gig hyping the crowd up. He approached us and told us his plans and that's when we became the Cheba Crew in 1977

This was original rap when Dj's gave rappers the platform to rock the crowd..Once rappers found out they could do it on their own that's when rappers started standing out more than the DJ.
The only thing i remembered about Eddie Cheeba is that he never seems to show up when he comes to Long Island. He was supposed to be at the Roosevelt Roller Rink back in 1978 and as usual he didn't show up.
Its a damn shame that guys like Eddie cheeba, Love Bug Starsky, Infinity Machine, The Disco twins, The Crash Crew, Spoonie G and the Fat Back Gang ( who by the way put the first rap record on wax, King Tim the 3rd.....not the sugarhill gang...sorry ) are never ever mentioned.....I love africa bambata but by no means was he alone in spearheading the rap/hip hop game
Love the mentionings. I just learned some thangs about the story of some of the pioneers of hip-hop. For example the first ladies of Hip-Hop (according to recording) were Lady B from Philly, Sequence wit "Funk u up" (Neo-Soul singer Angie.B was a part of👍)and the Twinley Sisters.
100% FACTS! I know this, CUZ I WAS there. Shout out to The founding fathers of Disco Hip Hop Rap music! Grandmaster Flowers, DJ DIVINE, Cypher Sounds, Rat & monkey, Olivio G, Professor & Co. Ankey El macaroni, GMV🎤.
@@AAA.O from what I can vaguely remember. He played some music ( funk ) and I think some live recordings. But for a fact I know he rapped and talked alot. The show didn't last long.
Watch what ya asked for. I am from that time in Brooklyn and we use to have to keep shotguns in the large speakers with someone standing by if it all went wrong in the parks or the street parties. I still wouldn't change the experiences for the world.
I used to work with him at Broadway International, R.I.P. Eddie.
(RIP) Eddie Cheba.... THanks for YOUR Contributions to the Culture!

R.I.P. Mr Cheba and thanks for all the great recording you left behind
Its a shame that the TRUE pioneers like him never got the props they deserved, but then again that's true of the pioneers of any type of music.
