@Marty McFly II I put together one of the original beats for Preachers Delight with my 808 (its on my SC). With that, Sugar Hill Gang were indeed the ones ton invent “rap”. They even termed it “rap” Man, i can remember when this came out. In fact i knew most of the lyrics before i even heard it because EVERYONE at school Was steady spitting it , But check this out. @Marty McFly II Apologies meant to say: 1. I believe they DID realize they were making history (it was huge) The concept of “rapping” has indeed been around since music, and even Blondie “rapped” on her Rapture song...which i *think* came it before this...regardless, these were the ones to truly kick it ALL off. It was the first rap song popularised or recorded Rap has been around
It started at block parties were DJs/Jamaicans were toasting
Maybe Jazz legend invented it too in the 60s listen with open ears to Rappers Delight it has scatting which is borrowed from jazz listen to Jamaican music and toasting/chanting
This was just recorded raps usually weren't recorded it was spoken word toasting or chanting by DJs at parties this was the first recorded and paved the way for later rappers
This was before hiphop got its dark tone instead of the energetic sound you hear in this song (rapper's delight).
When hiphop got to the 90s the tones got more dark.
yeah man, positive vibes only bro
I hope you’re kidding

Rap like this brings us all together, regardless of who, what, and where we are. You can just let go of all your cares and let the music carry you on.

40 years : happy birthday Sugarhill Gang !
Happy 2020 . Boogaloo and boogied all the way .
But will they rock till a hundred and one years old
Hip hop was born so did we.
I said a hip hop,
Hippie to the hippie,
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop!
I rock it
To the bang bang boogie, say up jump the boogie,
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat. :)

When he said:
"Bang bang, the boogie to the boogie
Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie"
I felt that.

Lord Jesus! The rhythm, the creativity and the rappers delightful skills, this is also a super magnificent 1979 song with rap and disco combined together, I have never seen this high powered, high voltage of energy music like this, the Sugarhill Gang are the greatest!!
I am old enough to remember that they called this rapping to the beat. They did this at parties and at the park way before this record.
KingPorter67: Do not use the Lord Jesus' name in vain.
This tune brought kids from ANY color together. Word.
i love that comment its just so nice and you are totally right!
Yes! My 54yr old feet are wanting to put on roller skates and skate around the house😂😂😂...just like I did as a kid❤
NO DOUBT! I lived it. Was a beautiful thing.
Old school music is amazing and old school music will always be the best
Old School NEVER goes out of style!!!
This group started rap during the disco era when rap music was clean and fun to listen to. I'm 64 years old and I still love this song today
"He can't satisfy you with his little worm, but I can bust you out with my super sperm" and "I'm gonna get a fly girl, gonna get some spank..." Yes, so clean! 😂
It's a good song but I wouldn't call this clean at all. And the worst part is when it goes dirty it just goes fuckin' gross with sperm references. Just cheesy and the Beastie Boys managed to do filth way better,
Rap is like a black-version of punk, it can’t be clean
The song sounds like it has some disco sampled in it. 😊
@@Antares007 Just a little. lol
R.I.P old school rap 1979 - 1999
This is more funk than rap but I agree😔🙏🏻
There's 2 stupid people replying to your comment. This IS rap. The shyte you 2 have become accustomed to is mutated rap that lost the original charm of the genre.
@@Ragnar06 Bruh. Why you insult. I just said it sounds a bit like funk. Nothing to worry about. And I personally hate nowadays rap.
1979 - 2014
@@ant1ne976 2014? Really. It's 1979-1999.
As an avid HipHop listener it's crazy how the first time I heard this song with out knowing its significance it still pricked my ear because it's just that good. The flow and their word play, especially for 79' it absolutely incredible, the rhyming and delivery is also top notch, and my favourite part of the song - the brilliant sample. Classic song, one of the greatest songs of all time no doubt.
I remember hearing about this new music called rap about that time, but the first song I heard was Blondie taking her jab at it.
Funny enough this isn’t a sample. It’s musicians in the studio playing part of a cover of Chic’s Good Time’s for 15 minutes

Rapping DISCO delight!
Joooo 👍
@Marty McFly II I put together one of the original beats for Preachers Delight with my 808 (its on my SC). With that, Sugar Hill Gang were indeed the ones ton invent “rap”. They even termed it “rap”
Man, i can remember when this came out. In fact i knew most of the lyrics before i even heard it because EVERYONE at school
Was steady spitting it ,
But check this out. The closest thing the “true rap” that was prior to this is a genre called “Dub”. Take a listen Here start it at around 7:45 of this video. You can hear the Rasta in the background yell "LYRIC!"
ruclips.net/video/7yRnD-SFdbE/видео.html
Finally, i make beats and have decided tto recreate this snd give it a modern twist. it will be on my SC in the next few days.
SOURCE: I lived through it all
eh oui!!! le rap existait déjà à l'époque.. trop de souvenirs. j'avais 11 ans..
@Marty McFly II rhythmic singing isnt rap sorry
It starts like a typical disco, but develops into a rap song. A classic.
It IS a disco song, Good Times by Chic
This song was really ahead of the times.
I don’t know that it was ahead of its time. It established a whole new genre, like 0 a.d. of rap music.

Too bad Cal Solomon didn't make it into this recording.
These guys are geniuses! The rhythm, the creativity, the skills. It doesn’t get any better than this.

No. He did not. Grandmaster Caz gave him his rhymes and said use whatever he liked. Caz admitted that he didn't think Hank would blow up. He was angry when the rhymes and record blew up. Plus Caz wanted Hank to bring him on board. The producer Sylvia Robinson forbid the transaction.
I'm a 1993 baby and whenever I say this is my favorite rap song people look at me like I'm crazy.
That's because it's Hip-Hop.
+max steel hip hop is the culture (MC's, DJ's, graffiti artists, break dancers, beat boxers etc), rap is the lyrical aspect.
TyRonda Smith SugarHill gang calls their music HipHop. You're suggesting that they. The pioneers of the style don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Look at you trying to be so brave - HAH!
+max steel I'm not suggesting anything. They call their music hip hop because it falls within the culture of hip hop, not because it isn't necessarily rap music since they are rapping on the song. I'm just saying that if someone says rap you can't say it's not rap it's hip hop when technically it is still rap music, which also makes it hip hop since rap is a pillar of hip hop
