Lyrics:
Hot steamy night alone, I wait for you
Cold brittle morning alone, and I cried for you
And when you finally call
You cloak your moves in the shadows
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
And I'm running so hard to find it
And I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me
Our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you
I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you
I'll never leave you now
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
Now I don't want to play games with you
But I don't know what to say to you
The digits change so slowly now
I'm going it alone
And I'm running so hard to find it
And I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me
Our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you
I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you
I'll never leave you now - Видеоклипы

Hi, me,from România 👍

I have a theory about the 80s: It's like the top of the rollercoaster where songwriting and technology converged for the first time. The result was this explosion of creativity. Access to drums machines by Roger Linn and others + sampling technology like the Emu and Akai. To me the 80's are the absolute apex of human musical freedom. For the first time we were allowed to make the music in our heads and it was glorious. For that brief moment, it made human life more colorful and alive in ways that we're still trying to re-create.
I think you're right. There were synthetic sounds prior to the 80's, but they really stand out, like Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer and of course Kraftwerk. It wasn't until the beginning of the decade that people really started experimenting with it... and now, it's just so ubiquitous, kids don't even know there was a different way of doing things once.
@@CBlargh And now AI will be making all music soon. No humans needed.
@@JohnSmith-ys4nl Don't get me started on AI... It's way worse than many people realise. o_O
Plus MTV - music videos were a game changer. Crazy shit happened, recordings prove it.
Not much in the way of innovation really since. So called "workstations" don't cut it for me. I'm looking for new inspiring stuff..(?)
I doubt there will ever be another decade as great as the 80s. For those of us who grew up then we realize just how lucky we were.
1985-1995 was freakin' awesome!
Check out Voices Of Babylon by The Outfield.

these days i watched psycho american for the first time, and i was very excited with the scene where they are in the club and this song plays, today i downloaded it and i'm going to skate listening.
Was one of my favorite songs in 1988. Haven’t heard this song for years and immediately was able to sing along word for word.
The guy that says "pure energy" is Leonard Nimoy from Star Trek fame. His son got him to agree to let his voice to be included in this song. The group had been trying for a long time to get his permission....he just didn't know. He loved it. He especially liked the fact that it became a hit!
And the first line "It worked so far but ain't over yet" it's from Dr. McCoy on S02ep8...
Seems the band liked this answer
Actually the 3 voices you hear are Dr McCoy, Spock, and Kirk

I was at a Star Trek Con right around the time this was released. Leonard Nimoy was the major guest. During his Q&A someone in the crowd asked him if he had heard this song and his simple answer was to lean close to the microphone and say, "PURE ENERGY". The crowd went nuts!

When I was a little kid in the 90s, I use to love it when this song came on the radio. My mom would always turn it up for me.
In the 80's creativity was never ending. That's what gave us Gems like this.

The "Pure Energy" vocal comes from Leonard Nimoy's character Spock on the TV series Star Trek. In the 1967 Season 1 episode "Errand of Mercy," Spock and Captain Kirk visit the planet Organia, where their citizens have advanced beyond the need for physical bodies. When two of them vanish in front of them, Spock says, "Fascinating. Pure energy. Pure thought. Totally incorporeal. Not life as we know it at all."
I always thought it was Spock. Thanks for confirming.
Cool!!
Using Leonard Nimoy’s voice was a stroke of genius.
And Dr. McCoy's.
And I had heard that the way the band got permission to use it was due to Adam Nimoy (Leonard's son) being a fan of the band.
@@Brad772006 cool!
Pure Energy
In view of the song's subject, it's probably meant to indirectly reference the Vulcan mind-meld.
Every club in the mid to late 80’s played this tune because it emboldened the people onto the dance floor. A timeless tune. They don’t write them like that anymore. Wish you all could have seen the energy and excitement that this song generated. Enjoy!
Biggest 80's dance tune was "Blue Monday" by New Order. Think it still holds record for most singles sold. They butchered the Hell out of it remixing and remixing, but thats what sold records. For me its more personal, the original, I heard, was paying homage to former Joy Division Bandmate Ian Curtis.
I remember when the dance floor would go black, and the strobes would start flashing during the second instrumental! Awesome times!
I look around at the world today and I thank the Universe I had a childhood that included the 80's.
I was there, you are soooo right about that. Hollywood in the late 80s
You got that right! There are some songs mixed by Raja Ram that will bring people to the dance floor! Check out "Raja Ram" and "TIP World" (Psy Trance/Full on)!!!!
This song brings back a lot of good memories! PURE ENERGY!!!

Secretly loved this song as a metalhead teen. I would crank it up whenever it came on the radio, as long as my friends werent around. Reminds me of another great band, the Human League
We were supposed to see heavy metal as “white devil music”, but we watched video and variety shows that had fun songs by Twisted Sister. I found out about more bands thanks to my metal head friends and Star Hits magazine 😁
As a metalhead I kind of have a soft spot for old synth pop even if not all of it has held up, I find it great and revolutionary on a level that no matter what clique or person you were we got pretty bloody good synth pop.
I thought I was the only head banger that secretly did that !!!! I bet there is more out there.
Another metal head checking in, came from Darker Thoughts by Paradise Lost to this. Quite the contrast.
Totally agree!!
This song simply reflects all that the 80's was about! Pure Energy!!!!!

What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide

I've said it before and ill say it again. The 80s was a musical renaissance!
Yep, was a Golden Age, of Hollywood too. Music side started in booming England economy (thanks to Margaret Thstcher) and it was called. The New Romantic Movement. Reagan, capitalism had everything to do wth it, plus Ca California still being a red state then and Hollywood not taken over by left wing wackos.
The bar was set very high...you really had to do something special to get noticed. That being said, I do think a lot of the 80's sounds and melodies have come back in modern music.
Jason Vyzer there are genres that are called Retro Wave , Synth wave and Chill wave that you guys might like.
This is absolutely one of my most famous videos from the period, and one of the most amazing performances and amazing performers.
This is clearly one of The Greatest Songs of the entire 1980's. No question about it man.
Back when one guy with a synth, a mixing board and some interesting samples could make an immortal hit dance floor song. We may never see another era of Synth Pop.
Yes We Will! Best's, dtf
there is a shitton of synthpop to make endless playlists, who needs a revival, they usually don't sound the same due to differences in equipment
@@cannabico6621 The new stuff doesn't represent a Zeitgeist of an entire generation. It's not the same as the old New Wave technopop. The closest I've heard occasionally comes out of Japan, but it's not part of a larger movement.

My God what happened to music??!?!?!?!?! I'm so blessed and lucky to have been a teenager through the eighties starting on my fourteenth birthday July, 20 1980.
That was my 13th birthday as well. Cool.
+Madison County Sound Labs Lucky you. I was born that August 15.
"What happened?" I'm no expert but I was around in 1988 and 20 years old when this single debuted, and I have a couple of answers because my aunt worked for Capitol EMI at the time and I also was working as an FM DJ. To make it RUclips brief: MTV was told to pull the plug on new wave. So were US labels. Guitar-based alternative was pushed forward instead and REM rode this wave in replacing synth-based bands. "Ok, why did they do this?"
New wave music began in the art schools of Northern England. These were Communist and Socialist hotbeds. The bands often spoke of art, philosophy and leftist politics openly in their lyrics. Scritti Politti one of the biggest examples (part of why you've barely heard of them). Widespread UK political criticism of Thatcher and Reagan in new wave lyrics began educating US teens like me and angered conservative shareholders.
Once TPTB in the US became aware of what the lyrics to these songs were saying and what the art in the music videos often expressed, a mandate was literally released via fax and dot matrix to the radio stations to stop playing new wave releases. That killed the movement dead. Looking back, it was the beginning of Clear Channel: conservative American control of American pop radio airwaves.
If you search for this song in 2024, you guys will be legends! !
Shivers every time ♥️
Man I thought they were British but come to find out they are from Minneapolis. I love this song!
@@se1775 Yeah they are from Minneapolis Minnesota here in the US.
I also thought they were British. To me, the lead singer's voice sounds remarkably similar to Depeche Mode.
LOL same here!
I'm from Minneapolis and most people here don't know they were from Minneapolis.
That's cuz Minnesotans talk different than the rest of us. They have their own unique accent. I had a bad experience with a Minnesotan which made me naturally not want to like any of them but I'm sure they're not all bad.
Classic example of just how good the 80's music was.
Who’s listening to this gem in 2024?
Seriously respecting this song right now
