I just ordered one :) so hyped to move up in the emulation world from my 2017 Dell Latitude. The thought of going above 2x resolution AND having 60fps on GameCube is almost not believable to me yet.
@robertwolfgan Been my main PC :) Caps at around 1080p, 720p in Super demanding cases. Eventually gonna upgrade to the SER8 for more power but this thing does anything I want. Rubs Switch games just fine as well.
Great to see. Were these examples using a 4K monitor? I've tried emulating even old games on another mini PC and it worked fine with an older TV, but there was a lot of lag even on those old games as soon as I switched to using a 4K TV.
Emulators are finicky things, many old games were never designed to run at 4k so play up and glitch when forced to do so, even if you technically have the power to run them at 4k. two ways to try and get around this is to simply drop the computers resolution when playing the emulator, or drop the emulators resolution and upscale it if it'll let you.
played CS2 on one of these, and after messing with settings for quite a bit I was able to reach a consistent 60fps without having to enable FSR. It's a really really nice machine. (Haven't messed with the wattage yet. system was used at 1280x1024)
I have this unit and it emulates upto Switch. It's a great mini PC for emulation and the 54W TDP makes the high end emulation possible. I also upped it to 4GB VRAM in the BIOS. :)
Do you think this mini pc is viable for playing street fighter 6 and other modern frame reliant fighting games? I’m horrible with comparing integrated graphics with steam graphics requirements
this is by far the best spec to price ratio here on my country. tempted to buy this. the heaviest game i have is only galactic civilization 3, so this should be way enough.
Thank you Robtech for your amazing work on Mini PC reviews 👌 It would be great if you could unmount completely the Mini PCs to see cooling fan/heatsink inside for your next reviews please. 🙏 Comparing differents cooling fans/heatsinks solutions between systems would be very interesting. 🧐
He did in his SER6 Pro video, which I actually used for my SER5 MAX to upgrade RAM. I would also love full teardown chapters in all the mini PC videos like he did with SER6 Pro.
@@KatRollo Thanks a lot for your reply ! 🙏 I didn't watch his SER6 Pro review until now and you're absolutely right he unmounted it completely, we can even see the (rather small) heatsink ! 🧐 It would be great if he could do it for every review though but maybe I'm asking too much. ☺
Hi Rob, thanks for the awesome review. You mentioned you had wifi issues with the SER5 Pro. I have a SER5 5560U and a SER5 MAX 5800H. I have them side by side, connected to my Asus AX3000 router (5Ghz) located some 25+ feet away. The 5560U achieves a download speed of 250Mbps vs 70Mbps for the 5800H. 😢 Both minis are using the Intel AX200 wifi card, on identical drivers. I have tried everything from uninstalling to reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, reseating the wifi card. Short of replacing the wifi card, any idea how I might troubleshoot this issue? Is it a faulty card? Could it be faulty antennas instead? Appreciate any input on the matter. Thanks in advance.
It'll just be the way the antennas have been placed in the mini which is limiting the range. Likely if you moved it closer it would match the other mini PC. I plan to add WiFi speed testing in the future. What are you using to check at the moment?
Is it possible to move all the internals out of the case? I’m thinking of making my own metal shell for it in CAD and have it milled if it can be removed?
Yes, you can remove the board. You'll have to do something with the wireless cables which are usually soldered on the case side. Might be easier to get a mini with a metal case already. There's a bunch available.
Nice review! Could you compare the SER5 Pro with 40W TDP settings to the SER5 MAX? I wonder if that reduces the differences even further. I read that the Pro could handle that on the temp side.
I want to buy this pc for Digital painting - but man that fan noise is that Fan constantly blowing air like that? will it be that loud every time I boot up the PC and paint on Clipstudiopaint pro?
That's with 8 cores under full load. I had a look at the system requirements for this app and they look modest, but vague. It doesn't look like it would tax the mini very hard so fan noise should be low, but it depends on your project. www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/system/
You can replace the thermal paste for a better one. Might improve the thermals slightly. Do I think it's worth the effort considering how difficult most of them are to disassemble? No.
I have the SER5 MAX and it can emulate PS3/Switch, thanks to the very reliable Ryzen 7 5800H. I do recommend you don't buy it at regular price, but rather Prime Day Sale for the best bang for buck.
@@Robtech I would also recommend 6800H if they can find it in the same price range. Ryzen 7000 series across any brand has a lot of manufacturer defects as of the moment.
if anyone is interested. the Beelink ser5 Pro runs half-life Alyx via steam vr. Yes, the graphics are not top-notch, but the game is still great. I tried the Beelink 12th Gen Mini PC SEi12 Pro, i7 and it failed miserably. The only reason I thought was that the ser5 pro has an AMD chipset whereas the sei12 has Intel.
Hey Rob Just ordered this one for $375 Beelink SER5 Mini PC, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U(7nm, 6C/12T) up to 4.0GHz, Mini Computer 16GB DDR4 RAM 500GB NVME SSD It should do the trick for 1080p PS2 and XBOX emulations right? Was also wondering regarding these mini pc's. Do you have to change the power usage or something? Should I just crank it up to the highest power for emulation?
youre kinda funny ill admit lmao. thank you for the video, VERY informative, i just ordered it and my autistic ass is gonna watch all the reviews i can find
Hmm, not sure all that extra noise is worth like +5% in performance unless you are doing a ton of multi-core work. 5800H is a fine office/web browsing cpu, but really the 6000+ series were a big leap forward with DDR5, PCIE 4.0, and AV1 hardware decoding on an igpu that's 2x faster. Of course you'll pay $150+ more for it. ($500 vs $350ish)
Agreed. This is a case of you get what you pay for and I don't mean that badly at all for 5800H. It's powerful enough to do PS3/Switch emulation without having to shell the premium cost for RDNA2 or higher. It's a very capable midrange APU if you know what you want from it with a good budget offering.
I feel like the max is a cop out, because the pro has the ability to up the TDP in bios from the stock 35w, up to a stable 45w, which pretty much resembles the same specs as the max, but for the extra bit of cash, you're only paying for the ashetics. Still a good review from a SER5 Pro owner.
I was disappointed, though not surprised. I'd been hoping Beelink had done something more interesting for the extra wattage than just run the fan faster, but while I like the Pro, this doesn't do anything for me. Granted, at almost the same price (given fluctuations), I suppose it's a "why not?" but I wonder if this unit can handle the additional heat & stress well. 15% more in multi-tasking is nice, but...
Beelink has the most dreadful so called tech support team. If you have a post purchase trouble - like first the fan goes 79dB then rattles and eventually dies... - you are by yourself. The tech support team is evading, avoiding, promising but does absolutely jacksh.t! Less than a month old Ser5 Ryzen 7 machine is a doorstop...
That device is not that useful. The processor is two generations old. It's a marketing ploy to sell off remaining stock that Ryzen 5 5800H. That SER5 Max is a product in search of a marking niche that does not exist.
Maybe. But it has a very strong niche in the emulation scene. The niche exists. UPDATE: I have made people get the SER5 MAX by simply posting a review write-up on reddit with emulation demo videos I captured. They're all loving their purchases.
excuse me, not all have the same money and purpose as yours. me and my friends are considering this as an alternative for basic desktop pc with light gaming here and there online.
Now all that's left is for Beelink to release the SER5 PRO MAX following the footsteps of Apple's iphone.
I just ordered one :) so hyped to move up in the emulation world from my 2017 Dell Latitude. The thought of going above 2x resolution AND having 60fps on GameCube is almost not believable to me yet.

What size is the cooling fan, and is it possible to replace it?
Why does the top of it look like an office carpet?
Is this system powerful enough to handle upscaling and using shaders in Retro Arch especially for PS2 and Game Cube emulation ?
Good video, thanks for sharing.
It looks like a good machine as far as you know what you are looking for.
Which mini PC do you recommend with 16gb RAM and with expandable RAM, for less than 215 USD? I'm taking a look to blackview MP200 and MP60 but idk.
Wouldn't recommend either Blackview unit. Spend a little more and get a Ryzen 5500U mini for around $240 ruclips.net/video/3hJ0nhGdOkQ/видео.html
