great dramatic interpretation of how I will hold and look at the vinyl when its out
Up with you! ...XD
Bosco Olalquiaga but is that before or after you listen to it ? not quite sure how you could simultaneously listen to it while holding it - maybe looking is not the most appropriate vocabulary??
you brought listening up, not him
yup!
CharlesMOfficial - I don't think it's out of the realm of human capability to hold something in your hands while listening to something. We have five senses, a brain, and 4 limbs. I'm not trying to disparage you, but your question seems incredibly silly and naive for a grown adult to ask.
The colors, the patterns, the dancing. Everything flows perfectly, like ocean waves.
This is an example of heavy thinking before doing, production and music wise.
or searching really hard to give credit
LIRYS.
I knew you fine, sight dream of mine
But I know my eyes, they've often lied
And I move like blood, like fire and flood
Despite you
Blind love couldn't win
As the facts all came in
But I know I'll again chase after wind
What have I got if not a thought?
I knew, oh I knew
I knew
It was a fool's errand
Waiting for a sign
But I can't leave until the sight comes to mind
A fool's errand
Life will repeat, vision I see
The mouth and the teeth
That's fine with me
What have I got if not a thought?
I knew, oh I knew
I knew
It was a fool's errand
Waiting for a sign
But I can't leave until the sign comes to mind
A fool's errand
But I can make it through
I was thin and I saw life in you
Fool's errand.
thanks :-)
Fleet foxes make you want to live. One of the best moments of my life was listening to them as I drove into Colorado. Amazing beauty. Really strikes you and the fans seem to know that!
Someone MUST have been reading Fool's Errand by Robin Hobb - amazing book, amazing song. The words just beautifully encapsulate what is going on in the story with The Fool (The White Prophet) and his Catalyst - beautifully put "Waiting for a sign
I can't leave until the sight comes to mind" and "I saw All Life in you" - just perfect
This is actually how I found this song. Was looking for anything about the book on youtube, but found this instead. Not mad about it really :)
If Fleet Foxes has proven anything, it's that they are easily some of the most talented, artistic musical groups of our generation
robin pecknold you say
Collectively, they are all essential
thay are musician so they play their instruments and sing, but robin pecknold does all the composition. in every album.
That's not entirely true. It's still predominately Robin, but I'd say its 65% Robin, then 35% band. He has mentioned in interviews that Skyler has input.
Jonah Davis its literally impossible for me to agree more. But i agree
I can actually completely understand this video. You struggle and fight to maintain a relationship, that you can tell is a "Fool's Errand", but you keep on fighting to keep it going as long as you can. Until you're left alone and broken. It's one of those things you have to have been through to understand it. The part where the young lady collapses onto her knees, and the look on her face. You just feel so alone and abandoned, not knowing why things happened the way they did. Completely shattered. For anyone reading this, I hope you never experience it. It's devastating.
That's a really great interpretation and gets very close to the feelings I had when making this video. Thank you.
@@seangpecknold Oh wow! I was afraid I was projecting a bit. Thank you for the amazing work and effort you put into this.
Whether you are a 'lone wolf' type by choice or by nature, to realistically hope for universal acceptance and approval from your peers is a Fool's Errand. You don't dress like them. Your dancing is jaunted and strange. Nevertheless, to affiliate with a tribe and dance along in unison with matching garb and blind allegiance, is just as much the Fool's Errand. The internal strife festering from this impossible situation leaves you waiting indefinitely for a sign, seeking an imagined permission to live the life you long for. Waiting for this nonexistent sign is the Fool's Errand. The wait will leave you with as much control of your future as a canine perched in the back seat of an otherwise unoccupied vehicle.
Yes I really enjoyed reading your comment. It is true
Well said.
I love how each one of their songs gets better by a factor of 10 with each listen, the nuances really grow on you, so hyped for this album
Each group of dancers represents one of the classical elements: Brown = earth, Blue = water, Yellow = air, Red = Fire. Besides the obvious color correspondence, the costumes and particular dance moves also reflect this identity. For example, the water group has their hair tied up, as if they were about to go swimming; the air group has long flowing gowns, to catch the air with their drapery. The figure in black can represent, among other things, a magus, the human race, or Aether, the fifth element, which is Love and Mind. Aether/the wise human directs the movement of the other elements and puts them into harmony, as is seen later in the video when the four groups combine their dance moves into one sequence they perform in a synchronized manner. Once the elements harmonize, the human transforms.
Thanks INTJ
Great interpretation!
I recognized the four classical elements too. I saw in the black figure the form of the artist. It made me think of Shakespeare's "The Tempest." Often, Prospero the wizard is interpreted as Shakespeare himself, the artist creating worlds and peopling them with characters. Prospero can enchant an island and create an Ariel and a Caliban, but what is that against the world and wide? The figure stays on a small beach on a tiny cove within a cove, a limited theater of action. Shakespeare often made reference to his Globe as a compressed space. He would sneak in lines like "this wooden O" etc. Maybe looking at what it is to write songs made Robin Pecknold aware that encompassing as much as he wanted (the elements range all over the place) was a "Fool's Errand".
The costume design is fantastic.

The first two songs off Crack-Up have blown me away. To say its better than previous efforts by FF says a lot, since I am very fond of their other albums.
So far I think it will beat Helplessness Blues, and that's my third favorite album ever!
First two singles he means
could not disagree more
I've been impressed and excited, but it doesn't seem they have taken a huge leap in creativity. I will still love it either way; but I hope they change up their sound on the next album because they are starting to sound like a tribute band for their first album...
Astro Apollo
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
When that chorus hits...wowwie
It was all shot on 16mm video tape. I always have to come back from time to time to see it again; just wonderful.
This new Star Wars trailer looks cool
Antonio Gutierrez Hahaha This remember me Rey
damnit you beat me to it!
Ladyhawke too
Rays training has changed her extraordinarily..
No, it sucks. God dog.
This really reminds me of how hard it is when you're different from all of your peers. Great way to outline that FF. Keep creating 👍🏻
there's love in this.
this is what feed people.
thanks everyone involved.
Indeed
Please let me grow old with the music of Fleet Foxes!
I can’t tell you how many Theaters I swept at Regal Cinemas when this was playing in between showings. 2017, simpler times.
Confirmed by Robin: This song is about picking up laundry detergent from Safeway. Love it.
Robert Casteel I fucking knew it!!! Thought I was the only one to see that!!!!
You have to be freaking kidding me 😂😂😂 their songs are always so incredibly deep and I relate to them on an emotional and spiritual level and to be about detergent haha. I love it
where'd you see that? lol
At least not Tesco or ASDA. Lol.
Renaissance polyphony with folk and every instrument imaginable so great
Breathtaking.
These guys deserve a grammy
I like the doggo at the end
Anthony Russell - I found the redditor.
4chan not reddit you fucking normie
Karma police dog.
good pup
I could not stop laughing
The video reminded me first of all of Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal", which I couldn't find to have been brought up yet. The rocky beach, the cliffs and the meadows and the black robe/habit of the protagonist are all very evocative of the scenery near the beginning of the film, where Death is met on a very similar beach clothed in a black robe. The other dancers bring to mind the famous dance of the dead at the end of the film, especially at 3:25. Some shots bear a strong cinematographical resemblance to Bergman's scenes as well.
Adaviri My thoughts exactly!
I'm glad someone else picked up on this! It felt directly inspired by Bergman, with a hint of Anderson when it came to wardrobe color choices. But yes, I was definitely reminded of "The Seventh Seal" with this video. It's a wonderful homage, in my opinion.
That, and, Kurosawa's "Ran." The wind, wide-angle shots, costume colors/fabrics...
Adaviri yes dude
CU - BESTEST ABLUM EVER . those laaaaaaaaaaaaayers the production, the songs but even more so as a whole, it's crazy.
This song hits me at such an emotional level. It's too beautiful.
The tune is simply delightful
beautiful music video Sean
This honestly reminds me of Wes Anderson and Bergman's the Seventh Seal
I love the way the verse transitions into the chorus. Great to hear some new Fleet Foxes
This album is going to be their best work by far
Looks like a Jodorowsky's movie with a Nijinsky's dance and I'm absolutely happy!
Jodorowsky meets Solange meets Pasolini
Cauim Ferreira totally thought of Rite of Spring too
I was thinkin jodorowsky meets kurosowa meets bergman, but hey... there's definitely some beowulf in this though, right? The girl transforms into a beast, not unlike gendal the Mearcstapa. I believe Mearcstapa is the name of a song in the next album as well!
Gets better with each listen
when this album comes out, i think ill just be sitting at home listening to this on repeat for days on end.
Cole Bouse June 16th is the release date, or maybe June 23rd. Check itunes, it tells you there
that rhythm change at 1:12 is pure gold
Finally these guys come with something new, I was getting sick of all these run-of-the-mill pop folk bands.
This video made me realize that I've been a stone and that I don't want to be a stone any longer. I want to move and express my self. Thank you to all those beautiful ladies for the inspiration.
Who else pre ordered the vinyl? cover art is one of the best I've seen in ages
Apes4Days and yet your profile pic is horrifying
hmmm
his name is top GNASHERS :)
btw I prefer their Debut to Helplessness Blues
Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.
Radiator Johnson underrated comment
Ohhh my god 🤣
CAN'T WAIT!!! 5 years was soooo long to wait for another record, but it's gonna be worth it!!
so glad to hear this new music! their first album is one of the most emotionally charged records i have ever heard. thank you all for the music !!
the first one and Shore as well!! My favourites
I love it when something you've been looking forward to for so long lives up to the hype.
The way the lady in black moves from the beginning to 3:00 is like art😍 It reminds me of like modern and emotional dances. If could probably be a contemporary dance if u think about it💃🏻
MY BOYS BACK IT AGAIN 💯💯💯💯💯💯
we all have set routines and duties in life, but it's how we do them that makes us different from each other. there is, to some extent, a very certain pattern that we all comply to in living, but how we differ from that truly separates us from each other and makes us unique. and we are a reflection of those idiosyncrasies. it can at times be ugly, beautiful, confusing. despite all of that, we return to nature at the end of it all. there's just this elemental feel to whole video, and the dancer in black injects that humanistic touch to it all; what it looks like to defy nature for this brief moment we have.
0:54 when the acid starts to kick in and you don't know what planet you're on
"You know what this song reminds me of? The 1973 version of Wicker Man." - the director, evidently
SNES drunk yeah, the tone of this track would totally fit the intonation of wicker man's stuff.
Good call, SNES.
Hi SNES drunk, I love your videos and I love Fleet Foxes. To see the two together at once is... unique! :D
Kinda, yeah
@@te9591 Listen to Jamison Faulkner - Way Back When‼️‼️
I think that each group of dancers represents a different culture of people in the world. Their dance is relatively rigid, synchronous, and represents society. To some extent, these groups coexist and are similar, despite their obvious differences. However, the lone woman represents nature. Her dancing is much more chaotic and unstructured. Although the other groups can exist together, she's destined to be alone, and is ultimately too dissimilar to get along with them. Her turning into a wolf at the end of the video reinforces the nature symbol.
Dan Bollen Agreed. I think this can be symbolized as any sort of duality though. To me, the lady in black was fear, hatred, primacy... which of course ties into your notion of human vs. nature. Her body language seems to communicate those emotions. It looks like she's weaving some hateful black magic spells against her enemies, and then at the end seems to succumb to her hurt. I just tend to interpret things emotionally though.
I think the lone woman is acc a jedi knight.
Too much time on your hands guys, it is what it is, (a good song with a strange Robin P. Video, without delving too much time in to over analysing the video. Good long though. One that Robin does NOT personally over indulge like most of the songs on this album. A good producer would have applied more discipline to the content of these songs.
I agree
Earth is brown
Fire is red
Wind is yellow
Water is blue
Black is Chaos/Void/Nothingness
Brilliant song! Found on Spotify as the result of a sort of 'genre search', and am riveted! Now for more from thes guys!
Brilliant colors that only film can produce.
Finally. I have been waiting for this moment all my life.
Im so glad you guys are making new music.
OMG, Robin and Sean... you came to this world to create MAGIC.
Oh Fleet Foxes, I cry tears of joy 💗 every woman in this video is beautiful! The colors too!!
This is brilliant, Robin Pecknold is brilliant. Long life to him and his inspiration!
You can tell from the waves behind that her dancing is in real time.
Who else feels like it is a new chapter in their life?
I love the intensity of the dancers. The visuals are beautiful and fit the music so well.
Safe to say this is going to be such an incredible album
Fleet Foxes songs always make cry. No other band or artists can do that
Incredible video. Gave me both Bergman and Anderson vibes. Jade-Lorna Sullivan did a wonderful job.
This song and video has calmed and soothed my baby boy to sleep most nights since its release. Thank you Fleet foxes, love your work guys.
Leave it to Fleet Foxes to come up with the most disturbingly cool music videos
Alek Beauchamp reminded me of the exorcist
This album is unlike anything I've ever heard, crazy good stuff.
"Water, Earth, Fire, Air. Long ago, the Four Nations lived in harmony.."
This song is perfection
Ive been listening since sun giant and they get better with every new album
The Fuckery Podcast nah their Debut + EP I prefer over Helplessness Blues
Each album is something completely different from the one before. Their EP is one of my favourite albums of all time, and so are many of their later albums, but they each have different reasons for being my favourite. It's not a scale from one to zero, it's a spectrum. A spectrum that Fleet Foxes manage to encompass almost to it's entirety, sometimes maybe even expanding it.
With so many bands I often become hostile with each new album released and each new sound direction, but Fleet Foxes are among one of the few groups that mature so goddamn cleanly.
Crack up>Sun Giant>Self Titled>Helplessness Poos
Harrison Moore a man after my own heart
These new songs are so good, they are just about bringing me to tears. So much emotion and thought put into the melody and progression. The visual aid to the songs are great as well!
Sean always killin it with the videos. Man never misses
Just pure amazing art. Nothing more.
This may be way off but i think the video depicts astrological events. The 12 dancers are the signs: red are the fire signs, yellow the air, brown the earth, and blue the water. the dancer in blacks movements feel constricted and tight, a possible sign she represents saturn. her location, the ocean, may represent a water sign that saturn is in, possibly cancer, which indicates feeling restricted in your emotions, difficulty in self expression, or resigning oneself to illusion. "it was a fools errand, waiting for a sign. i cant leave til the sign comes to mind" after the sun sets, she shows her true form, a wolf, sat in the back seat of a stationary car, in the midst of a dark woods. the planet of restraint might find itself now in dusky woods of sagittarius, further restricting her movement. it could mean that one has been forced into a situation or place where one cannot be free, or that one chooses not to move on at all, still waiting for that sign.
I don't understand the video at all, but the music is superb. Thank you Fleet Foxes, this song really makes me want to just go out and see the world.
This song and Video is everything
Really, really good song. Fantastic rhythms changes and fabulous chorus.
amazing song, beautiful video. Pecknold family never disappoint
prolly one of my favorite videos of all time
Beautiful again.
Seriously their best stuff .Awesomeenessss
So excited to hear the full thing!
Fleet Foxes shot a music video in my backyard and now the crushing realization that this will be the closest I'll ever be to this creative genius has set in.
The imagery and artistry here is really spectacular!
couldnt imagine of a more fitting video to this song. haunting rhythmic paganistic
My little brother was just watching over my shoulder and at 0:59 he says "INVISIBLE KEYBOARD SOLO!" I can never look at this the same again.
Im so blessed to be able to listen to the beautiful music The Fleet Foxes put together
This song is so relax
Best song I've heard in years. I'm addicted.
Beautiful new song. Video is really nice too. I would like to see more of the collaboration between the Pecknold bros in the future.
in between the lyrics "I knew it was a fool's errand" ... and "waiting for a sign", there's a very subtle sound that reminds me of one that can be found in another brick in the wall, a gentle high note or voice ... very subtle... anyone?
I LOVE THIS VIDEO WITH ALL OF MY HEART SOUL AND MIND. With everything in my being I bless this video in its greatness.
This is the very first time I am listening to this group. GUESS WHO just rocketed up to the the TOP of MY FAVORITE BANDS LIST ? Give you a hint...they have a very cool video a la Star Wars ! I have not been this excited over music that is not Jazz in.....like.....FOREVER ! Thanks Robin and FF !
It sounds like 60s music... I LOVE IT!!!
Was thinking of the piano coda just now as it sounds like a piano I used to play on as a kid. The visuals fit it perfectly
magical album - so glad they're back
YOOO I NEED THIS ALBUM!! I've been dreaming of listening to one more Fleet Foxes album for years now!
mmmgggaaahhhhh love this band. music never goes stale. hits all the emotions perfectly
Beautiful.
Fleet Foxes to me is one the unique human musical experiences and explorations through mystic
Published on my bday, what a gift
Such a wonderful band.
