Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed "LIFE SHAPED BY OUR EYES". It was definitely a great experience to meet Phil and record this with him. We filmed something else while I was there, a casual conversation where I question Phil on his vocal philosophies. You can check it out right here: ruclips.net/video/0-5TCebQv_s/видео.html
    Enjoy!

Phil, you’re a news to me.. I’m sincere I "discovered" you from
your comment on a video of Ken Tamplin.
Great song.. I really like the arrangement.
Amazing voices. My compliments to you both.

I've said it before, i definitely feel phil has some of the best students of any vocal teacher on youtube, his students just have this unique vibe to them, where as some other teachers students i feel have great / amazing technique too, but their sound / style doesn't shine as bright as phils students imo. And i think it's largely in part because of what phil said in the interview with doug, he focuses on getting the technique free, and to do that, he not only just gives you techniques that worked for him, but giving you what you need to be the best you, you can be. Even if he never needed the particular technique he is teaching you. Which i feel is different than some other teachers who just say "these are the best techniques because its what worked for me, so it will work for you too". But not everyone is the same, so that might not always be the best approach. Anyways, Really enjoyed this duet. Doug's one of my favorites of his students!.

I am very grateful to have the opportunity to train and work with lots of talented singers and aspiring singers who have great potential!! and my goal is to help them make singing much easier and more free so that they can focus on expressing the song and music freely without hindrance!

Recently my vocal student Doug Zeigenbein, (who you may remember from his singing transformation video a few years back:
    ruclips.net/video/AQy1vIysgrE/видео.html )
visited me in Japan and composed a song for us to duet on. I enjoyed the song and so I came up with the melody ideas over it and then produced the track. Then we recorded the song.
Lyrically he had the first opening line done and that inspired me to write the rest of the lyrics. The way I interpret the lyrics is we all see life through a filter so we see things differently. And because of that, that will inspire us to take different action which will lead us to a different result. So really, what you believe shapes what you observe which then shapes what you act upon which then shapes your life.
I initially wanted to do the recording live in a single take like my other songs but we didn't really have time to rehearse the song enough to work it up to that level, so this is a lip-synced video!
Doug is a skilled musician and artist, check out Doug's channel here:

Great song and vocal performances. I thought the vocal blend and tradeoffs were tasty personally. Phil giving it some at the end.

I really think you guys sound good on this. Considering it was kind of a rushed job makes it even more so. Imagine if you really got down to spending a lot of time on it? Due to a sort of negative comment here I listened to this track quite a few times. I'm not hearing anything wrong with the way you sound together. Ok...who the hell am I? lol My thoughts are pretty meaningless. But then again....I am the "audience" right? I think you guys sound good.

Thanks a lot man! I actually think this song is one that has to grow on you (I don't really mean that too negatively) it's just a bit of a mash of styles. Thanks for listening to it multiple times I think it's the best way to enjoy music

What I love about what I do is that I don't feel pressure or the need to be boxed in musically. I love being able to experiment and put out different types of music and over time through that process let my sound get more refined and developed and honed. I wasn't sure how people would react to this song because it's quite different, but I also didn't want to pass up on the opportunity to be able to sing with my student or say "no" because our styles are different. I liked what he created so I was like "let's do it and see what happens". the process of creating music and singing is where I get my joy and to be able to do that with other artists is awesome!
