    Why do Vtubers graduate? What causes them to want to give up Vtubing? How can you be a Virtual RUclipsr and avoid burnout?
    I know many of us get stressed and it saddens me that it causes a lot of Vtubers to graduate early when they could have just taken some breaks. burnout is a serious problem and I am sure many of us Vtubers and content creators have experienced it at one point or another.

      thank you boba tea girl, i wanted to make some educational tech content, but i get burnout at my regular job, and some of the questions people ask like "what is best programming language to learn in X year" and i'm thinking to myself. "the same shit they were doing 5 years ago, learn to solve problems baka! not technologies"

    My vtuber bestie quit.
    We weren't linked or affiliated with each other business-wise. We were just friends that met due to our shared "thing." She got really popular, but with that came a lot of negativity. Someone doxxed her and did a lot of other really bad things to her, and, after a few months of super bad stuff, she decided to quit. I haven't talked with her since, because we both kept our identities secret (and I wasn't gonna access her info even though it was available). I took a break after she quit. There was a lot of drama surrounding our friend group and I couldn't handle it. I did have my own little community, but I haven't been able to start streaming again since then. I know she's safe and happier now, but losing my closest friend made everything super sad to do.

    • @MariYumeCh
      @MariYumeCh  2 года назад +46

      I am so sorry to hear that happened to your friend. Protecting your identity and being aware that this stuff can happen is so crucial to becoming a content creator. The internet is a super scary place, but I am glad you are starting to make content again after taking a long and well needed break. I am also glad to hear your friend is safe and doing better

    I've been really scared of burnout since I started vTubing, so much so that most of the problems I've had mentally in relation to vTubing have come from this constant vigilance and self-monitoring to make sure I'm not burning out. This video had sort of the opposite positive effect on me that I think was intended, in that I feel a lot more at ease about burnout and I feel better knowing that I've been taking a lot steps to prevent it without even realizing. Thank you!

    Solid advice on burnout!
    I want to add on to the last bit about the grind.
    Reminds me about how RUclips tells creators to "upload daily", that advice is BS upload as often as you can.
    Definitely make content you enjoy creating on your own time, don't grind out unhealthy goals.

    • @MariYumeCh
      @MariYumeCh  3 года назад +20

      You are so right! I have to constantly tell myself that I don't need to upload daily on youtube to be successful. I always want to do more, but some good advice someone once gave me was "if you think you can reach this amount, then do slightly less than that amount" and it's just a good rule of thumb to avoid burnout

    • @BlazeLibra
      @BlazeLibra 2 года назад +4

      Yea, I don't even really have time to watch daily uploads or stuff like that anyways, so those channels that upload infrequently but upload the _high quality shit_ is my jam. works well on both ends

    • @niicespiice
      @niicespiice Год назад +2

      for anyone else reading this in the future: uploading daily can actually hinder your views, i've heard. because it floods your subscriber's home page and inbox, peopel are more likely to stop watching as each upload feels less special and more spammy.

    Truth be told, I've felt bitter more than anything else on this list. There's one VTuber who I love to watch, who's extremely positive, cute, wholesome, and just makes it easy to forget life's troubles for a while. Not long ago, I found out that she'd been streaming for only six months, and already she has thousands of subscribers on RUclips, with fans practically throwing their money her way. I'm happy for her, and her success is well earned, but at the same time, that hit hard. One of my biggest life goals is to begin a career in voice over, supplemented with income from Twitch, and leave my current day job. If I had that same level of success, then I could very well retire and focus on my dream full-time. To be honest, it still frustrates me a little. But whenever I think about it, I remember the phrase, "Comparison is the thief of joy." I need to focus on my own progress and achieving my own goals, then celebrate the milestones once I hit them. When I do this, I grow much happier and more satisfied.

      @sweetdnlg618 Год назад +4

      I feel you so much on this. I've been trying on and off since last year to get started but I unfortunately am stuck with a typical corporate 9-5 job. Every time I try to work on my branding alone I get so discouraged because I only get a good 4 hours a day after work and I get burnt out from my regular job often already that I don't have enough time to even work on my vtubing setup thanks to needing to focus on my heath so much (was recently diagnosed with a couple of permanent illnesses so now that also doesn't help). I really want to start streaming so bad and hopefully make friends and just escape my daily struggles or even attract viewers that relate to all that and bond. Just feels like I'm getting nowhere while everyone I watch around me seems to keep figuring it out and gaining success. *Big sigh*

    • @echoesofthevoice9570
      @echoesofthevoice9570 Год назад +2

      @@sweetdnlg618 That's rough. I'm lucky enough to work a job where I can work for only 30 hours per week and still earn enough for a living. That gives me time and energy to work towards my goals. If I had to work 40 hours, I'm not sure I'd have the energy. But you can do it! Keep at it and you'll get there. :)

    As a previous developer, Id like to share my experience when I first took up game development. Im not sure how people would see this would make sense in the VTuber world, but Ill share them anyway.
    1. Its ok to be nervous; remember to breathe
    - we're human, so its okay to be nervous. Just remember your lessons from school: relax, take a deep breath, and go steady.
    2. Set expectations low
    - not everyone who starts out at anything gets celebrity status overnight. It takes time and patience, as well as some luck. It took me a week before my first game demo was even criticized, and a whole 2 months before I was getting attention
    3. Mistakes happen; learn from them but dont let it drag you down
    - when my game was criticized, instead of making a reason, I went to check where the problem was and immediately fixed it. I actually thanked him for the quick response and has been active in giving me feedback then.
    4. Be yourself
    - there was a trend in the community i was in about how RPGs were made, but I didnt feel like copying them since I knew I had the right tools I need to distinguish myself from them. So being unique is a great way to attract attention
    5. Be consistent
    - at some point youll be recognized, and it helps to have consistency with what you do. My updates were usually finished about 2 weeks ahead but I release it at the end of every month (which means more time for me to playtest for any bugs and time to relax)
    6. Dont push it
    - there are days that you just dont feel like doing something. Ive had that a lot in my time, and even though I was the only person making my own game, I had no one to rely on. If i just dont feel like it, I get to playing some of my favorite games since it helps clear my mind. Eventually my motivation to get back to work just comes back.
    Im not entirely sure how any of this may translate to VTubing but I believe it has some impact in making a point at least

    Wonderful perspective on things.
    I like that this is opening up the discussion of how bettering yourself shouldn't just be limited to growth, popularity or this vague sense of being the "best".
    I've been lucky to swim around a lot of communities, see so many different values of success and failure.
    But this hits home on a lot of underlying issues dealing with the medium and the people who work through it.
    A sentiment I've seen a lot is "I just wanna be someone's favorite Vtuber."
    And, from my experience, the first person to do that should be you for yourself.
    Cause then you'll find people who feel the same; You'll find others who see you as their favorite too, just as you do.

      You're so right on this! I want to focus on some more mental health topics since I know as vTubing becomes more popular, there are going to be people suffering from similar issues i've seen from the cospaly, anime, and gaming community. I appreciate your comment on this!! ❤

    As a vtuber on Twitch that gave up but wants to come back, I think it was having the feeling of not being entertaining enough I did many streams where I would stream for 0 viewers for like 6+ hours daily and it puts you down and affects your mental Health

    The closest parallel I can make to previously existing entertainer types and streamers (vtuber or not) are stand-up comedians and stage presenters (Those guys that would tell you stories in High School auditoriums). You're ultimately performing to a live audience ( or no Audience :( ).
    VTubers may want to consider looking at performance advice (including how to avoid burn-out) from these performers. Working a live audience is a completely different skill from "content creation" like scripting and editing videos for RUclips. Success at one won't translate over to the other.

    At first, I was streaming every single day for months. It was the only joy I felt in my life at the time, the only goals I had.
    Until I had a positive life change, then streaming didn't feel like the only thing I had. So I started to get less motivated to stream. I'd be like 2 whole weeks without streaming.
    But I feel guilt ignoring the goal I had set for myself a long time ago.
    I definitely don't want to quit streaming. I'm still figuring out a balance. I feel like once I'm settled and used to this new change, I might feel more motivated to stream.

    Thank you so so much, Mari. I think these tips can be applied to any job--I certainly feel these type of symptoms going to teach every day in Japan, and I've been planning to start V-tubing actually as an outlet to make connections with people and just enjoy life again. I love teaching, but the need to push myself to the limit to make the best content for the kids every day has really turned into a source of anxiety and stress. I don't want that to happen with streaming too. Hoping I can apply these tips even before I start streaming.

    But my fear is that my ADHD and burnout will stop me from doing this because I’ll burnout too fast.

I have my lore ready which is in my about me tab on my channel if anyone is interested and I just plan to do at least one stream a day and at least 3 for the week for at least 3 hours as a limit so I don’t tire myself too quickly! If I get jealous of others growth I will just remind myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day and everyone starts off small at first.

    I'm not a Vtuber yet, I hate you right now AT&T, but as someone who has experienced burnout in things they love and has done the whole "grind" mentality for years mine was being a DM for D&D, it stems alot at least for me from a feeling of self worth or lack thereof and a fear that if you stop something that you define yourself in especially if it something that you see as "I'm good at this" even if it has become a source of stress, we feel like if we step away or step down even temporarily it proves that we are a worthless failure because that thing we believed we were good at was proof that we weren't, and after we finally step down I'm currently dealing with this myself, we have trouble existing normally with a voice telling us we failed and someone better or stronger never would have stopped, I believe those people like me are using their fans as proof that they matter like I used my players so we grind until we can't and then it often ruins the thing that used to bring us joy,
    Sorry for the long depressing message

  • @rubiiowo7026
    @rubiiowo7026 Год назад

    I definitely resonate with that first one a bit. One of my friends who just started is at the same point as me and I was a little jealous at first but she's been putting in a lot more effort on more than just Twitch. She's doing TikTok and YT Shorts so of course she's gonna grow faster.
    And then The Grind, I could not agree more. You can't just stream long if you're not used to it, I have only streamed over my normal 3-6 hours on few occasions and that's because I was just having so much fun that it kinda just happened. A while ago with minecraft for 16 hours and then just the other night with Project Zomboid, my friend and I went for 12 hours and then I still played my scheduled genshin that day for another two.
    I never plan on quitting especially since I invested quite a bit into this with a Live2D Model on they way soon, but also because this helps make more games social for me which is what I wanted. I hate playing games alone so I started streaming.

    you know
    long time ago I thought to myself "man, while it is true you need talent to be successful as a vtuber or streamer or entertainer (im not btw) with hard work, adaptability and good ideas you can be decent enough to achieve good stuff"
    I have watched a lot of ppl saying a lot of different things about vtubing but this video, this particular video showed me the true, to be a vtuber (or streamer in general) you do need talent, but not to be an entertainer (as some very talented entertainers failed) but to be a mentally strong, to the point that you can commit til the very top of the mountain even after dark nights, specially if you take the long route of entertaining and not drama and stuff.
    this is a really good video, truly a solid work

    I'm going to be honest, I've been struggling heavily for a while, and I've had frequent bouts of burnout. I love streaming, but not growing for so long has started to make me miserable. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I dont know what I need to do right, and all I can think of is "why can't I grow? Am I just not good at this? Am I just not a good streamer?" My motivation and self-esteem has really declined from a hobby that I really want to enjoy. I just want to enjoy being a V-Tuber, I don't want to get nowhere while my peers who have streamed for much less time are being extremely successful. I'm so tired of this rut...

    my biggest problem is that i do compare myself to others way too much. I have a great friend streaming as well and man, i really am jealous. Even tho im really happy for him.
    Im affraid to go live and i really dont have many viewers. I have had huge burnout and i feel like im shit.
    But i also know why i dont have many viewers too... problem 1 is my anxiety and i dont know what to talk about if there isnt many active viewers.
    I know that im streaming for people to entertain them but its hard. My second problem is lack of time to use in social media and post about my stream.

    First of i want to thank you for making a video like this. But also i was finding it a bit funny at the popular and trendy games that some people can default to because personally the moment everyone does something or a game becomes trendy, I don't want to do it anymore 😅

  • @Royalscriber5633

    With my kind of schedule it'll be hard for me to stream more than 2 days a week but I'm sure some days I can do more if I'm not exhausted. Burnout is very true but I've usually only experienced at work. Its part of my social issue because I had to deal with so many people all day at my job it made me not really want to be around others but virtually while playing a game I enjoy and acting out a character I made myself sounds fun when it adds all of hobbies into one with hope that others will have similar interests.

    I haven’t even started vtubing yet and I feel the first one, like I don’t think anyone will watch me and I wonder what the point is. And that maybe I shouldn’t bother trying to in the first place.

      It's a really big struggle when you constantly question your self worth. It took me a lot of reflecting on myself to see what kind of person I want to be. I decided I wanted to stop doubting my abilities, and I hope you can too!

    what if you stream on RUclips and you hold a poll on the community section asking your fans what thing you should stream? And what ever gets the most votes wins! i think that's how you make a good fanbase!

    Hey thank you for this video, this is the second video I watched from you, I didn't know the signs I've been having are signs of burn out.. I don't wanna forsake my regular schedule although I find excuses time to time, so I might probably start with not accepting commissions and so at least if I work on a personal project on stream I might be happier than keep doing commissions, I'm thinking about doing a goal so I could support myself doing my own comic tho I'm shy to do a goal atm, I wonder if grinding a bit/ being quiet on stream is more acceptable for art streamers?

    I'd probably just ignore it,knowing that these people just exist to annoy you and as long as you don't give them the reaction that they wanted then they will soon get bored and give up on annoying you! That's how I deal with people who annoy me :D Hopefully it helps some of you :)

    I got a question for u over the amount of streaming I try to stream 4 hours M-F sometimes I want to go a little longer than 4 hours and go up to 6 and more. Do u think I should learn to calm down and back up a little. Also I feel the adhd I have it myself too

    • @MariYumeCh
      @MariYumeCh  3 года назад +2

      The best advice someone gave me is to always do less than what you think you can do. If you can stream for 6 hours, stream less (like the 4 hours). It's a great way to prevent burnout!
