    I just noticed that un15 is an early version of the track "JUNGLE" from Blake Stone.
    Huh. So it WAS in fact originally made for Doom. If it had a main melody like the Blake Stone version it probably wouldn't have gone unused. As it is the unused version is at least fun to hum the Blake Stone version melody over.

      @@DoomKid I could not have ever thought it'd be Roland behind the MIDI SoundFont I heard back then.
      Though when I heard Doom back in 1997, I was three then was on the Sega Genesis 32X. Oh boy I remember my Nana helping me play the game back then. R.I.P Nana 🙏
      Replayed it again in 2005 (I think?) But I do remember having the Collector's Edition which had Final Doom as well. I don't remember if it's accurate but I swear the sounds were a pitch down from the Collector's Edition? Could have been just my ears.
      I love making my mod score. Almost finished with overdubs in an odd sense, due to re-recording it a third and final time (since the first time was on a tape recorder, second was on VHS and cassette tape on a cassette deck this time). All because I got my Roland S-550 to refine my mod score.
      I even now want to take my sounds and the original Doom ones in 8-Bit and sample them to 12-Bit on my S-550. :D

    Just curious, why the Roland SCC-1 over the SC-55? I hear both tend to treat Doom's music quite well, but I generally tend to get SC-55 recommended to me over the SCC-1

    • @DoomKid
      @DoomKid  4 года назад +11

      The main reason is because every version of Windows, from Win95 all the way up to Win10, come with a default soundbank (gm.dls / RLNDGM.sf2) that is very, very closely based on the SCC-1, both of which are essentially stripped-down versions of the SC-55. Most anyone playing Doom on a PC with Windows installed heard the music this way initially, which I'd wager is the majority of players over the years. It's hard to find high quality SCC-1 rips so I figured I'd do one!

      "The sound you are hearing is the Roland SCC-1. Most versions of Windows come with a sound bank (gm.dls) which is heavily based on the SCC-1. From Vista onward, for whatever reason, MIDI playback was somewhat gimped, muting drums or other channels at random, most easily heard in the NIN Head Like a Hole MIDI.
