I'm relatively new to Time Team but I am fast becoming emotionally attached to these archeological goof-balls. In this older episode it's fun to see Tony and Phil (and their hair) so much younger. I had no idea this series has been running for so many years. But longevity is a true sign of quality. I'm glad to have finally discovered this wonderful show. Better late than never. Now I must rush off. I want to see how many episodes of Time Team I can binge watch in just three days and time is ticking away. 😉👍🏻 LL
Mick on the other hand, Mick looked about the same age until he passed. RIP
I love these guys too. I think Mick is no longer with us unfortunately. Anything Tony is in, I watch. There's something about him. He makes everything interesting. 😊from New Zealand. ⏳🇳🇿
When you've run through them all, then go find the four episodes of Time Signs from 1991, the mini-series that were the precursor for the Tony Robinson hosted Time Team.
Here you'll see a very handsome and well builded Mick Aston at age 45. So was Phil Harding of course. You'll see him when the speaker presents the wild man from the Stone Age.
It's held in a much calmer format. Perhaps this couldn't live for 20 years, but I hold it very dearly and appreciate these four episode highly.
Thought I'd recommend them to you.
Cheers
@@basstrammel1322 His hair got a bit whiter and his tummy just a bit bigger, not much, through the seasons.
@@karanfield4229 Mick, Robin, and now Victor. Thankfully these episodes are well preserved.
Being an archeologist is one part hard work, one part academics and two parts imagination and hope! I love this show and Victor's paintings that bring everything alive!
Then you have fantasy opinion theorists like Graham Hancock who come along afterwards and comes to his own conclusions.
It annoys me that his narrative is about the secrets hidden and truths denied by archaeologists, and yet in time team we see a diverse range of opinions, a dedication to educating the people and a healthy skepticism before assuming the conclusions they want to see.
If he really wanted to prove his atlantis theory, he should be funding research with people who can do the work he comments on.
I'd like to see Tony & co give a reasonable appraisal to the sites he uses to use for his book grift
Phil Harding could give Hancock all the info he thinks is 'secret' over a pint in a pub (i.e. lack of evidence)
These shows have been a welcome relief during the Covid 19 outbreak. Thank you!

Still are. :(
They've gotten me through, as well. This one is especially poignant. It's the first early one I've watched since last year. Tony, Mick, Phil, Cadenza, Raksha have become dear friends to me. Victor's death this week breaks my heart.
A year later & I still agree! Great tv!
Watching during the 4th wave. 11/21
This is the earliest recorded appearance of Mick Aston's striped jumper!
I was just thinking, I wonder who does his knitting?
and Phil’s hat! that’s just as iconic IMHO especially as it’s functional and not for attention
I love that jumper. I'm learning how to crochet so I can make myself one like it. 🙂🇨🇦
This is also the earliest appearance of Tony's hair, lol
Then this is the episode that was colder than expected. Mick needed a sweater for warmth and it happened to be striped. A star was born!
I love this show, a great cast.
R.I.P. Mick Aston and Robin Bush.
For whatever reason I often imagined a show with Martin Clunes and Robin Bush as brothers. Like a British version of "Fraser". The dialogue would have been so fun.

Is this the official Time Team channel? with episodes in good quality? Guys, you just made my day! There were only several seasons broadcasted in Russia, so I had to watch other episodes in low quality. After so many episodes it's a deep feeling of loss when the series was closed, and especially after news of Prof. Mick Aston's death
"Do you have a volunteer?" "Yes"
Quick cut to Tony looking somewhat uneasy 🤣
So it’s 2021 and I just ground this program. Binged for a week then decided to see what Phil was up to ( great things obviously). This sadly brought me to the reality that we lost Mitch In 2013 no less. Must say it kinda broke my heart
It’s Mick. Damn autocorrect
I am glad to see that Tony has not changed much in the 4 years I have been following Time Team. He is ALWAYS disheartened. He expects to find great things constantly. Anyone who has ever done archeology knows that the majority of times no great finds are made. Phil and the others are excited with any and all finds because each find, no matter how small, helos to add to history. I love this program!
Every time I see a new episode I think it’s my favorite. I think I’m just in love with the whole series of videos. I’m sorry this series has ended even before I discovered it.
Its great that they came in to help the other team establish basis for more funding.
I love this show! By the time I'd watched them all I just start all over again because there are so many that I've forgotten what the details are and it's like watching new ones all over again! Love it!!!!!
20:30. It is simply amazing that they explain what GPS is! Back then, it was quite a novelty, and now you have it in a rather affordable watch format! We take technology so much for granted these days. We should be more thankful of all technology is doing for mankind.
And it shows Star Wars wasn't a complete waste of time. :D
yeah... notwithstanding, star wars crack, you're welcome
I never saw this before but it gives me such a powerful feeling of nostalgia! What a great show.
CRT Monitors?
You have much enjoyment ahead!
So grateful to time team for bringing archaeology( and history) into the mainstream of British consciousness and for the uploads on RUclips ... has made it available to people living outside the UK. Such a shame it all came to an end . But at least there are plenty of episodes to watch over and over again! ❤️ Mick ‘s legacy lives on. We miss you.
Real TV and genuinely interesting. Man, I really miss the 90's.
I haven't seen any of these very early episodes so this is such a treat-especially seeing Mick and his candy stripe sweater. I can't believe Carenza has always been so young and pretty!
Holy cow!………wern’t we young once! Just beautiful. Yes, that is what youth is.
Love, love, love this show!!! It’s fun to see the TT gang so young. As Tony has so much hair I keep expecting him to suddenly tell Mick and Phil that he has a cunning plan! All hail Baldric!
"the Global Positioning System, as it is called-" and right there one really gets a sense of how old this show is
I was just thinking that I felt like a member of The Time Team, finding clues of the vintage of these shows by the laptops used and statements like that 😄
This program itself is almost archeaology
@@speedbrake22 In fact, they use it as a representation of just that in a later episode, where they show Tony being buried with various items, and discussing which of them could date the show
Just look at Tony's hair and you know its almost prehistoric.
1995 baybey
I love this part of Scottish history! What happened after is very sad however, but history moves forward.
I'm so glad I clicked on that Timeline video. Now I'm a big Time Team fan! Such an awesome cast.
Thanks for sharing :)
Such a beautiful place Scotland
22:07 Gosh, Celtic/ Scottish music is so movingly warm & emotional
these guys have been together an amazing long time. thanks for the continuity.
This crew has so much fun and consistently. It’s always great to watch.
Look how young they were! This show was lightning in a bottle. They tried to have an American version of time team. It only lasted one or two seasons. I really liked it. But it just wasn't the same. And it never took off. Btw Phil Harding is a legend in my house. Love that guy.
A BRILLIANT Example that you don't need a lot of fancy technology and graphics to make a cracking good TV Program. All you need is a bunch of BRILLIANT People! 👍
RIP Victor Ambrus, I missed his artwork in the later seasons.
I wonder if the island wasn't much smaller at the time, because the sea levels were so much higher and the general water levels were probably too.
Some years ago I had my DNA checked and I was told that I was a descendant of Sommerled. I had no idea who this man was,so It's nice to have some information about him and that over 1,000 years ago knowing that I've got Norse/Viking ancestry. Somewhere down the ages an ancestor must have married, or cohabited with an English/Saxon, hence my English name. It's a shame that Time Team wasn't around then and I'd have the full details to my Family History, now lost in the past.
Hey Cousin, publish your tree on ancestry.com and we might see how we are related! (My tree shows my lineage back to Somerled)
I’ve got the same kind of ancestry and would have loved to see the same thing. Cheers!
The whiskey certainly seemed to be doing its job! Really interesting episode, thanks for posting!
I laughed at their enthusiasm for the whiskey - at that hour of the morning! - and their teasing Tony about his quietly scraping away in the trench while their backs were turned and they were otherwise occupied. Such a good humoured likeable lot of archaeologists.
LOOK AT THE HEADS OF HAIR ON THOSE LADS!!
Absolutely LOVE these Time Team episodes. Can't believe we missed out on these in Canada.
They still haven't forgiven us for the Red Rose tea controversy.
@@charliedsurf1267 calling Red Rose tea is a travesty
the more episodes i watch, the more i wish i could have been there with the team on their digs/adventures
Fantastic watch during CoVid pandemic.
Season 2.
Brilliant.
How exciting! I'm born a McDonald. I'm American and my Ancestor Alexander Mcdanold was a Jacobite who came here by prison ship. We have traced back to the 1500 Scotland.
That's my family clan :) the MacDonalds. We have a huge presence still in Jura, Argyleshire, Edinburgh, and Skye
Loved it! This archeologist team is down to earth in terminology, and scientific enough to let you know what you are looking at, what it was used for while they unearth The Counsel Island.
Well worth an hour of history that will capture the imagination. It's like uncovering the great, great, great XXX of the first Big Mac!
You don't have to ask, where's the beef?
AMAZING!
Thank you all so much for this amazing programme!👍✌
The music that starts at 22:06 is "Frideray" by Dougie Pincock and Alan Reid of the old Scottish group Battlefield Band.
I hope you guys do more videos about the lords of the isles there's almost no videos about them on youtube and they got an amazing history to learn about.
Long time fan, instantly transported some 30 odd years back in time. Just stumbled across the channel and burrowing through all the classics. Great new content too. 🙂
Phil's hat is soooo clean and new!
A look at Tonys head gives a strong clue to the timeline, if his hair's brown it's early.
Plus, Mick Aston was introduced as a mere "Field Archeologist" instead of a Professor of Archeology!
For me it’s the length his hair 😄
Series 2, episode 1. It’s the fifth episode.
So this is it, where the infamous hat on Phil's head and M. Aston's colourful jumper have their first appearance in the show. I wonder what their story is...
Is this the original appearance of these kit? So cool :) Wish I had a chance to become an archeologist.
It is actually a different colourful jumper This one has more green and the one in the newer episodes has more orange :) Amazing that he had more than one ♥ I love them!
@@karenknitspodcast I always imagined his wife was an enthusiastic knitter and liked to use up leftover balls of wool by knitting the brightly striped jerseys for Mick so he would be nice and warm when outdoors, practical too as it wouldn't matter too much the jerseys becoming grubby as they were his work jerseys.
The jumpers were send to him by viewers.
Phil’s hat is a normal hat for archaeologists, but Mick’s jumpers are style only
Become a fan for sure but mostly seen the 2nd decades shows. But then I saw the favorites show and finds from Islay came up.
I am a Donald so this instantly drew my full attention.
Thought about setting up various playlists for Roman, mediaeval, and neolithic stuff? I like this series but I never thought it was allowed to reach its full potential.
Thank you for posting these. Sincerely
oh man, I don't think I've ever seen Mick's sweater in it's normal, non-stretched out beyond recognition, form.
I love that cutting insult to Tony,” Treasure Hunter”!! Great dig once again!
Really enjoyed this video. Makes me wonder if the NMS was able to continue on this amazing site.
So glad they got good weather. Believe me they did.
Wow, such amazing results! Another great episode
Was more ever done to learn more about the things discovered on this dig? Would love to "check back in" with old time team sites.
Could be an idea for a part of the new series - looking back at old episodes and what's been learned since the original Time Team was there.
It looks like the early days of Phill's hat. No stains, and the feather is on the opposite side.
What a difference twenty-eight years make. Look at the size of that GPS receiver! 20:34
He explains that the resolution is 10 millimeters (1 centimeter, about 4/10 of an inch). That's surprising. Civilian GPS equipment is supposed to have no better resolution in it than about 1 meter or 1 yard and to insert random moments of being even less accurate, so that it can't be taken by rival groups for precise military use.
Ah, now I understand where my family got the idea to build sod houses when they immigrated from UK to the Saskatchewan prairie.
He loves it so much, his parents should have named him Phil-int!
Phil's mom always called him Philip.
Baldrick to the rescue.
Oh my god, having to explain GPS. 😂 This was such another time.
28:04 First time I've heard 'paps' used in a socially acceptable manner!:-)💜🇺🇸
How long was the show on? Look how young they are
I'm hooked on Time Team. I just discovered there is a Tike Team USA. I was wondering if it always rains in England
That's not England
If that is the scottish summer, what does the scotish autumn and winter look like? Nevertheless beautiful landscape and I love the scottish accent…
May is the sunniest month... Any other time you really are chancing it- especially in the west. Winter is wind storm season...
Is this the FIRST appearance of Mick's rainbow sweater (jumper)? 😃😃😃
Seems to have been the premier episode for a number of Time Team staples; Mick's "stripey jumper", Phil's hat, Phil's toolbox, and Stewart Ainesworth.
Im hooked so great
really dates the episode when the US military GPS was the only GPS system available, and that they felt a need to explain what GPS is
'Scuse us Rat, let's see that rear! LOL, What a great sport! Cheers lad, however late. ☺️
So, when I watch Time Team on RUclips I always open up Google Earth and find their dig sites. Anyone else?
🙋🏼♂️ Guilty of the same, also archeological report from the dig, I even check out the bars they hang out between digs and other buildings they might have visited
THAT'S what I always tey to figure out! Those cozy pubs they retire to at the end of the day. 😁
Always!
The Spaniards used the linen quilted top in the 16th invasion of Colombia. One chronicler wrote that he saw one soldier covered in so many arrows buried into the quilting, looking like a porcupine. The soldier had no wounds
It would be heaven on earth to me to be there helping this crew in this cold, muddy, tedious, fascinating job. Please post anything like this you can! Subscribed with bells on!
Do checkout joining a dig with digventures.com/ Gently derived from Time Team.
From 1995! Stewart's beard looks downright "in" again!
They all look so young!
I can imagine how many jokes must’ve been made towards paps of dura haha
GPS is such a common feature nowadays. So interesting
Thank you.
Is this Stewart’s first episode? Brilliant! (29:10)
This "Global Positioning System" sounds like it might catch on.
This show isn’t about archaeology it’s about meteorology studying the wind and rain patterns of The UK!!! 😁just kidding I love time team!!!
It just isn't TT unless its bucketing down. TT attracts monsoons.
Listening to them explain GPS makes me feel so old 😜😢
Professor Caldwell set the tone for TT. He gave archeology interest without the BS
Was just drinking some malt from Finlaggen last night.
Lol I love how you can see the slow decline of Tony’s hair line over the years
yes but he alwys walks in the trench
Why does he look better as he gets older & loses more hair?
Go Hawks because he’s sexy
Jon Kun Once all the episodes are uploaded, this channel should do a clip video of all the times Tony jumps down into a trench to walk around.
And does Phil's hat keep getting sweatier?
Oh my look how young Stewart and John are - and looks like Henry wasn't even born yet.
lol! I’m American and Tony’s comment about the American satellites and “Star Wars” a moniker given by Reagan era people and admin to an effort to militarize space as part of the Cold War made me laugh. I’m 48 and GenX so it’s doubly funny.
Oh That's it your are banished to go play pong.....
Tru but still must play the fun game of pong!@@@!
This must be an old one. Tony looks like a miniature George Harrison. :)
Victor is a gifted artist
Somerled is my 25th great grandfather
I love how something that is unexplained gets thrown into a ceremonial site lol
Oh. It's a first so old episode I found.
"Treasure Hunter!" -John at 31:13 lol
33:05 we'll make an archaeologist out of him yet lol
Right at 15:22 they're shaking out some flint from a ziploc and a piece escapes. I hope they picked it back up!
Patrick, it was very obvious that he picked up the dropped shard.
Eyyyy I'm a MacDonald; that's my family history you're excavating there! :D
Was not expecting to find out the origin of my last name today😂 7:00
@Tony Robinson LOL 37:16
Please please have your DVDs transferred into a US format! I'll buy the entire series.
What makes them think the Scottish would leave stuff behind?
Look at Phil. He actually has colour in his hair!
End of part II was rather funny lol
