One of the things I really like about Time Team is that they include the locals kids as much as possible. This gives them the opportunity to fell a sense of ownership over what is happening. I think that is really important.

I'd love to know if the 2 youths who assisted in the geophysics early on in the project went on to careers in that field or anything archaeologically related. Nope.
This is the first episode where Mick wore the striped jumpers he became famous for.

These shows have me completely rivetted to my laptop. It always amazes me how you know what your actually looking at. I am afraid i am with Tony i see only rubble at this stage. In previous videos i was able to see clearly a wall or part of a building just by looking at what they are showing us. Archeology has always fascinated me. History not so much but after watching a few episodes they are joined hand in hand. I have learned so much about the country of my birth through to adulthood in my mid 20s than i ever knew existed in places i have never see in person. So thank you so much for that. I agree with preserving this castle and if possible restoring the Castle to its former glory, i think that is a fantastic idea. I have always been a person who thought it is a great idea to preserve these ancient building to show how people lived back then as apposed to today. Life was very difficult in those days if you didn't work hard you starved. I wish more people were interested in keeping some of the old castles and restoring them instead of knocking things down before they are surveyed and being aware there is something there that has historical value something to be kept as opposed to being levelled. It breaks my heart to see old heritage building being knocked down its very sad. I have to say Sue, i love your blouse, where did you get it? it is stunning. Time team i think you are doing a wonderful job trying ti safe as much of our heritage as you can. Keep up with the great work your doing.

I love these old episodes, this one is a good one, love this old castle 😊
Also, I love womens fashion from when this episode was filmed. The white top being worn by one of the ladys at 21:42 is gorgeous, wish we wore clothes like this now.

No it was 1995, I went to Sunderland university and hated the place. I was glad to graduate and leave! Give me Newcastle any day, far more civilized people. Mackems are backwards idiots!

@@thegrimreaper1991 , by my standard, it's the modern people who are backwards idiots. Anybody sticking closer to the old ways are closer to right.
So how do they compare using that as a measure?

With those recreation videos you have shared about what it was like for recreating medieval castles and villages there would be no surprise at all that people would come in like a free for all on a place that was in ruins at that present time.

I think the whole site should be excavated like Pompeii. It would make a lovely picnic site. Plenty of room for the kids to play and full of interesting historical markers like "Why did the Churchwarden cut off the legs of Baron William Hilton's memorial in the last century?" and other fun facts.
