The queens that waited so long to lay eggs give me hope. I have a queen that's well over a year and still looks healthy. She is a fully colostral species but I just keep feeding her.😊
Your collection is very impressive! 50 species is amazing! Melophorus bagoti would be so cool. Make sure to get a powerful heat cable! #5 is Pheidole megacephala. Invasive, so don't release them, but the cool thing about them is queens and males from the same colony can mate! #10 is a Crematogaster sp. #16 is Colobopsis gasseri #33 is actually Camponotus nigriceps #35 - Advice: Just release them. You don't want to risk them attacking other colonies. #37 - More advice: Meat ants dig quite deep nests, so a naturalistic setup might not be the best for them. You could try though, they'd probably adapt fine.
It’s definitely too late now but the Polyrhachis ant is a work not a queen. It’s really hard to tell with P. ammon but the biggest differentiating factor is that queens won’t have as a very boxy top to the thorax.
40 Colonies is Huge! It's a lot of work, I'm thinking the same, I'll only get specific queens or colonies from now on. Although I've bought another queen since this upload!!
Hey there TheAntKeeper! I know of the ID of a few of your ants. I will list them below for you. 2. Camponotus humilior 4. Ochetellus glaber 9. Papyrius nitidus or Iridomyrmex discors. BOTH are parasitic queens and need BROOD and workers/cocoons to get going or they will die. 11. Polyrhachis ammon worker. Not a queen unfortunately. 16. looks like Colobopsis sp. 31. looks like Polyrhachis vermiculosa or Polyrhachis aurea 39. looks like Polyrhachis vermiculosa or Polyrhachis aurea 49. Myrmecia fulvipes
When I first got into ant keeping I went out looking for ant queens. We had this small statue. Their was SO MANY! I thought they were other bugs tho. That day I saw 100+ queens. I hope I can go this summer and see the same thing
Idk if you’ll answer this, but I have a question. I just got a rather developed big headed ant colony yesterday. I have found that my ants do not explore a lot, and I have only seen 4-5 ants out at most in their out world. They also have only occupied one chamber in their nest and there are quite a lot of them - probably around 50-100. I am rather confused, as all of your ants, and most of the other ant youtuber’s ants are very curious and explore their entire nest and outworld.
I just purchased an entire medium sized ant colony kit from antfarmsupplies. 🤩 And also I just purchased an ant type that has super majors. Excellent! 👏 When everything arrives and stuff. I’ll definitely do an unboxing video. Hee hee 😂
queen #11 looks like a queen ant judging by the thorax try looking if she has wing scars. doesnt seem like polyrachis ammun queen so yea could be another species
After some research it is a polyrachis worker ant so yeah but could be a major or soldier. Also good job on taking care of a worker for that long , its almost impossible
@@TheAntKeeper can you help me identify her I have a short on this channel I live in Oklahoma if that helps and every time I see them in the backyard there in the soil not in wood so idk

wo you have a lot of queens and colonies. I wrote doun all the ant colonies and I have a dug up a colony just like number 15. I'm still figuring out what sp. it is. 16 looks like a trail ant, 19 iridomermex bickneli, I think for 35 give them a new out world. you are such an inspiring ant keeper and such a good ant keeper. sorry for your weever ant queen. I know a ant keeper how has a weever ant colony. The channel is corld antscaneda.
I remember my first colony was carpenter ants and it has only 2 workers it was a small colony but one day while I was on a field trip they got raided by yellow crazy ants the queen survived but she didnt lay eggs anymore and then died:(
I think the very small ants are a Solenopsis sp. and not a Crematogaster. And most ant RUclipsr don’t have the video quality you have. Nr. 20 might be a Camponotus Lownei (pale legged sugar ant)
My messor queen died because of a unknown cause, she had all the food, water and everything prepared but days after she arrived she died, idk why that happened
Love your vids, glad you made sure the cheater in the giveaway couldnt take advantage of using alt accounts but i really recommend using a different giveaway method if you want a randomized giveaway you could use a discord bot or a giveaway website if you care about peoples thoughts. even the person who won the giveaway admitted they asked people they know to like their comment on your discord.
Yeah he never was going to win! I've tried several different ways of giving away and some have worked well and others haven't. I tried to give away gift cards once but it was impossible since the government kept thinking I was getting scammed every time I made the transaction!! Trying different methods is fun, but yes, I won't be doing that again :D
I was thinking that #2 looks a bit like C.irritans, but my knowledge of Australia ants isn't that good. Also, #4 lacks the heart shaped gaster that crematogaster usually posses. That species looks more like monomorium or iridomyrmex. At least here, it is common for colonies of monomorium to be shallow nesting in wood. Often times, some monomorium have so many queens and can inbreed. #16 is also probably colobopsis sp. For the colony that keeps escaping, maybe you can put some Vaseline as a barrier. It's working for me. Thanks for showing off all you colonies! Congrats on all the subscribers.
this collection of yours is absolutely Huge! Good job on 2.5K
Better then ants Canada even though his testube colony’s are a bit dirty at times

6:19 The queen is a Dolichoderus species
Thank you again :)
That bull ant colony in the intro looks so adorable
They Are Golden Tail Bull Ants I think
3:10 That colony is Monomorium sp
Thank you :)
Awesome collection man! Im closing in on 40 colonies.
And will be only getting some "special" ones from now on ( I think) ;)
Great video!

Wow all the Queens Are so Beautiful. But my favourite is Myrmecia nigrocincta the Orange and black on those ants are truly stunning
A common favourite! I love them too!
I'm new at ants I find these videos a great help
13:21 Actually nigrceps not consobrinus. No band.
Congrats on 2.5 k bro , well deserved and also great vid
Thank you so much! 😀
Amazing job caring for them all. 😊👍🤘
Certainly is a lot of work! Thanks Don
12:55 those are so beautiful!
2:56 thos species are monomorium minimum/Tiny pharoah ants/little black ant/Maybe these ants are invasive or native i dont know.
nah. they are native. they are also Ochetellus glaber, little bigger than Monomorium.

Hey with 9 what ant brood do they need because I have caught on a few days ago
@@FishwithLogan just some small Iridomyrmex sp brood will do!
I knew you would know! ;)
Thanks for the great vid! I’ve just come across any keeping and it looks really interesting
I've been ant keeping since 2012. Hope you enjoy your stay :)
#3 almost looks like Tetramorium Immigrans. Beautiful collection
#4
I may very much be wrong, but it could be some Monomorium sp.?
Also #9 may be some Froggattella sp.?
Great video and I do think this is the biggest collection on youtube
I think so too!
#8 I had two queens of that type and they are pretty cool they get cocoons and the workers are sort of a mix between twig ants and phadole
in case anyone hasn't said or you haven't realized yet the polyrachis ammon queen (queen 11) is not a queen :)
2:59 bro its fire ants (Solenopsis sp) is vary hard to keep them
2:56 those ants have So much Brood! You should move them into a different setup soon
Oh Yeah!
7:13 looks like camponotus subbarbatus. I have a colony of those
Damn, you have such gorgeous species, wish I could keep some of them
They are the best!
Any tips on how to catch one I keep trying to find some out side but I can't find a single one 😔

It's the black street and

what camera do you use?
I use a Sony A7 with a 90mm macro lens and sometimes a iPhone

Haha I’ve considered it!!
Where did you buy polyrachis ruffmiras I’m also in australia so it’s alowd
Not sure..Queen of ants?
Bull ants seem to love Sunburst Ant Nectar by Formica, try feeding them that, they cant say no

Yes finally
The #4 "crematogaster" seems to be a monomorium sp.
Ooh Thanks so much SimplyAnts!!
#12
I literally got my first ant colony today, so I’m not very smart with ant stuff. But, I think it may be a sugar ant? Correct me if I’m wrong.
DM on Instagram @The_AntKeeper and I'll do my best to ID it for you!
my favorite species i want to keep is crematogaster they even live in my area but never found a single queen idk how

2:55 #4 is Not Crematogaster... I'm about 80% they are Monomorium, but I'm 100% sure not Cremato 😁
I also thought it was, but the thorax of Tetramorium queens are very rounded, this queen's is longer so I believe it is Solenopsis
Oh and your Amon queen is a worker I think
Definitely!
number 4 is Monomorium
We see about that
We will see
5th is pheidole megacephala just need a pic of the queen
Your polyrhachis Ammon is a worker.
Definitely!

hey man
4 is a type of monomorium
Wow. I have only around 20
