It would seem that it ended up being both a blessing and a curse, that he wound up on Deathwish over Baker, and although the Deathwish crew seem to be a bit more skating oriented, as opposed to the grime of Baker boys.Overall, I think he had the type of personality to have been a good fit on Baker, regardless of how devastating of an impact it may have had on his skating and lifestyle, especially during the Baker boy hayday, I can see a parallel universe in which Moose didn't wind up walking in the same shoes he's currently stompin'

John, I think moving back to Cali was a great idea for what you do and your lifestyle. Your skating seems to be getting more consistent, and generally you seem happier both on and off your board. Especially since no one talks about it because the Baker team was Dollin, Reynolds, Boulala, and trust me, having partied with them in France, they were definitely not the last ones to date girls teens betwen 15/16/17 clearly , So I find it a bit too easy to accuse a guy of being a pervert just because he supposedly went out with underage girls. Today, these underage girls are 100 times more advanced than some of us were at 17 years old in 2024. Believe me, girls are no longer little kids. Stop the bad faith.

What it seems like to me is that Moose didn’t really fit into the baker/deathwish clique, and they used the moving situation as more of an excuse to cut him loose. Although he may have been cool with everyone, companies like these are very specific in who they want riding for them. They not only have to rip it, but also have to gel into the dynamics of the team.

I had a huge drug/drinking problem. Been clean for a few years now, and I can totally relate to him not wanting to even be around that type of scene. Or even be tempted by it. I can go years without drinking now, but If I see someone doing it, it makes it incredibly hard not to want to. Honestly, I'd rather be kicked from a team than be forced to be around those types of things. It makes it worse that I try not to be that guy who got clean and now tells everyone that they can't drink or use around me. So I basically just avoid people entirely that are doing it.

This story does not add up…. Ellington and Reynolds’s were getting sober around the time he was kicked off…he did not get kicked off for “ not partying hard enough” its clearly cause ppl did not get along with him for other reasons

Amazing to see moose skate more often, because of people like him and how they’ve kept things raw, it inspired me to start a company that can bring more raw footage, skating, and eventually locally made boards back to skateboarding, much love and respect to those who keep skating what it’s supposed to be.

man you are a really good interviewer hill... you were asking all the good questions w/o making him uncomfortable it gave the interview a good vibe... you should do this more specially if its with someone you admire

Yeah this video was so good, the vibe and tempo were perfect. The little cut ins of John talking were done really well and added a lot to the video. The interview was super casual but deep and the smith kickflip was mmmmm.

Looking back at skateboarding from a child to today, man I was an idiot not in a sense of not understand the tricks but understanding theres so much more I could not see with the flick of the foot or pop of the board to make the tricks happen! :)
Like the amount of skill to really make these happens on top of confidence to make them happen if they are scary. I seen it like a cartoon when I was a child now I see it in graphic detail but not perfect where I could do it.

Always liked watching your videos and was really happy when you started to have moose in your videos. Moose, I remember when we were in high school watching you skate the 99 cent gap and knew you were going to make it someday. It's been really cool to see your journey over the years and I am glad you decided to start a RUclips channel, best of luck to you man!

It was interesting to hear John touch on Deathwish and Baker’s reputations. Would love to see a breakdown of the vibes/branding/styles of the different brands and teams in the current scene, how that impacts their products, who they work with etc.

The only rider I've met in person from baker/ deathwish was bryan Herman at pharmacy in Victorville. He was genuine person! Moose keep skating an staying sober. Hearing what Ellington said to you was low... lost respect for him, baker and deathwish. Much respect for you! 💯👌

Moose was so humble when I met him in New Braunfels, Texas in 2009. Nicest dude ever would take his time and talk to everyone at the skatepark and at the skate shop where they were signing autographs
