I just started knitting in 2024 year. I made a tea towel, several swatches/coasters, 4 pairs of socks, 4 hats (one is cat-sized), and the biggest project -a knit lace shawl for my mother. In 2025 I want to make a cardigan, more socks (especially a split toe sock that I can wear with sandals), a few more hats, mittens, and a cabled/color-work scarf. I also recently picked embroidery back up after many decades, and I’m making a series of mandalas/prayer flags for my sister. I also have plans to weave a few hand towels using my backstrap loom.
Wow! I didn’t know it was your first year knitting! You made so many things! I know you were working on the shawl for quite some time but you got so many other things done too. Well done! Your embroidery and weaving projects sound so nice! 🤎
Hi Anne, thank you for showing us your beautiful makes of 2024! I totally agree with you, we should take time to reflect and look at our makes from the past year, not only to appreciate the effort we've put into them but also to allow us to be satisfied with what we already have. I feel like the whole "new year, new you" attitude is also about making you want things you don't have and subtly trying to push us towards consuming more so it's all the more important to cherish and use our finished objects😊
Hi! Thank you for joining me. I couldn't agree more! Enjoying and valuing what we already have is such an important part of finding happiness and contentment in life.🤎
You should be proud of yourself for all that you have made, and it's not the quantity of knitted items that matters, but the happiness that the knitting brings you, and the finished project, if you enjoy wearing it!! I stopped making new years resolutions several years ago because I felt like a failure if I didn't achieve what I set out to do. I guess I just try to aim for being healthy and happy, and doing what I can to be a good friend, and be kind to others. I'm also a slow knitter, and while I make lots of socks every year, I don't make that many sweaters. I'm going to cast on the Halibut sweater next, and I'm using Scout yarn as well. Yours looks so nice I'm using the same colors!
Thank you so much! I am often my own worst critic but also trying harder to be proud of myself 🤎 I completely agree on both points as well. New Year's Resolutions can be so anxiety inducing and bad for ones self esteem. Ahh I feel so honored that you are using the same scout colors! I hope you enjoy making it ! 🥰 Happy Knitting!
Congratulations Anne on your 2024 makes!🎉 They are beautiful. I just want to add I’m really glad you’ve started this RUclips channel. I really enjoy seeing your makes and the goat antics! 😁. Phoenix is living the best life and you are taking good care of them. 💜🧡💚
Thank you!! I'm so happy my channel brings you joy! Phini really is living the high life lol! She's such a good best friend to me too🥰.🤎 It makes me happy that others find her silliness and that it makes you smile.
I’m in love with the Maryjane Mucklestone sweater❤ I have to say always love everything you knit. Probably because I love rustic wool. The wildwood shawl is stunning
You should be proud of yourself! You've worked hard, made good decisions for yourself, and opened up a large part of your life for public viewing!! 2024 was a slow year for my knitting. I don't keep count, but I think I made about 22 pairs of socks (mostly vanilla), and a small neck scarf. Hopefully, I'll start sharing my finished projects this year to help me keep track and inspire me to knit more socks in colourwork, lace, and cables 🤣
Oh thank you! It's true, its been a bit of a mental adjustment to having more of my life out there like this, but for the most part positive. WOW! 22 pairs of socks is a lot! If thats a slow year I can't even imagine a busy one lol Congratulations! I can't wait to see your projects if you do choose to share them!🤎
All of your projects are gorgeous! So many beautiful colorwork pieces!!! Thank you for creating content for us, wishing you all the best in the New Year! ♥
"Livin' the dream, baby!" LOL...love it! (time mark 21:56) Nice to hear about your project planning and the 2024 (& 1/2) finished objects. Suggestion: Put the tag for your Halibut Sweater on the side. If it is on the back your hair may cover it or get tangled in it.
😂😂 Sometimes I'm so surprised by the fact I can make these things lol. This is such a good point about the tag! My hair gets tangled in everything and it would drive me nuts. I will definitely put it on the side.🤎
Nice job Anne! Love all of your projects! I am a pretty new knitter, began November 2023 so 2024 was a big learning year for me. I made socks and hats and started a sweater and am happy with my progress as a knitter. This will be a skill building year as I learn colorwork (started a Norwegian Star Hat) and continue to learn sweater construction and yarns. Time does not matter, I am not in a race with anyone, just as you are not. I would rather enjoy the process than rush through it. Enjoy your episodes! Best wishes for a wonderful year!
Thank you! Congratulations on learning so many new techniques in your first year knitting! And looking forward to even more new ones this year. I feel like a hat is such a great starting place for color work. I hope you're enjoying it. And truly! I couldn't have said it better myself. I love learning and making at my own speed. I hope you have a wonderful year too!🤎
Love your sweet videos and how honest they are. I loved when you finally found the word rituals and it just seemed to fit. 😊 All of your makes just have such a cozy rustic vibe to them. I’m also stuck on my second rad radish sock for embarrassingly too long now. I’ll just knit along with you this spring maybe and hope I finish it finally. 😅🤭
Oh thank you! Sometimes its so hard to find the word I'm looking for when recording, but then it will appear haha. We can twin knit our second Rad Radish sock in the spring haha! 🥕 (no radish emoji so carrot will suffice)😂
The push for weightloss is so tiring this time of year! I hear you. And I'm nodding along, I don't wash my knits much either, it's why I love wool so much! Your Halibut is the first one I've seen that made me consider the sweater. The colors are gorgeous, and somehow muted? So cute (as are all your knits!) Happy New Year, sending healthy and calm vibes for the new year!
Oof it's exhausting. I just try to remember that I am in control of whether I am influenced by them or not (sometimes easier said than done). I also love wool for that reason! I wash my cotton sweaters all the time but wool ones rarely and they're fine. What a huge complement on the Halibut! Thank you! I feel like the low contrast-ness of how it turned out is nice (not my normal vibe) I feel like its the most out of my normal style thing I made this year but I like it too. Thank you again! Happy New Year to you too! We can all stand some healthy calm vibes right? woof lol🤎
Great collection! I had a productive year too, and I think I ripped the same amount of projects than I finished 😅. My plans for the next year will be to try to knit a bit ahead of the season. I have two cold weather active wips and once those are finished, I will move into spring knits I think. To be ready in September to start the Icelandic wool knits again!! But I am horrible in knit planning as I often just want to knit something else. Sometimes this else is something new from a designer I love or sometimes an idea or something I really miss in my wardrobe…. Happy knitting 🎉🎉
Thank you! Sometimes it just has to be that way lol. I would rather rip out than make a whole project I will end up hating 😅 Oooh I love the idea of planning to be ahead of schedule in relation to the season. I also don't always stick to my plans, it's so hard to not be tempted by new patterns. My plans for next year definitely include filling wardrobe holes. Happy knitting! 🤎
You made so many beautiful knits! I love the shawl and I’ve put it on my list of things I want to make. I live in the largest Icelandic community outside of Iceland, so Icelandic yarn is readily available here. I knit a lot with Lettlopi & Alafloss. I did too much knitting in 2024 for gifting this year. This year I have one gift to make and then I am focusing on knitting for myself and maybe a nice sweater for my husband🥰
Thank you so much! It’s so cozy to wear. I will warn you that the chart is a little confusing at first but once you figure it out it’s very simple. You could definitely make it in Lettlopi instead of Plötulopi. Ooh it will be so nice to focus on personal knits. But also you’re such a kind person for making lots of knit gifts!🥰🤎
Well done! I love the Halibut Sweater! The colours you went with are divine! I finished 37 projects this year (I'm going to film a video about it soon!), but the majority of those were baby knits or accessories to use up stash.
Aww Thanks! 37 projects is insane!! Congratulations! I'll look forward to your video. Using up stash is great, I need to get better at doing that or destash. Have a great week!
Everything you’ve knitted are so lovely❤ and cannot wait to see what you gonna knit this year😊 I’ve just started knitting this pair of socks that was on my list for years. The way the pattern is written (or, more likely, not written) is a bit challenging and that’s why it’s been on my list. But then, I’ll never know how it will go unless I start knitting, right? Let’s see what happens😄
Thank you! 🥰 I hope your socks are going alright (maybe they're done now?) It's true sometimes starting the hard projects is the biggest challenge but you will never know what you can achieve unless you start lol 🤎
Jen Geigley who also has a knitting podcast on here is going on one of Helene's hiking tours in Iceland this June. She is going to film her experience. She knitted a crowberry also and she is knitting another one of Helene's sweaters just for the trip. I never look forward to summer but Im looking forward to her trip and living vicariously through her.
Omg! Thank you for telling me about this and her channel! I will definitely be following along! It would truly be such a dream to go on one of those. Like you said living vicariously through the videos.😍
Love the video, I'm thinking of making my first podcast be an everything I've knit In 24 podcast 😅 brown is literally my favorite color too and people think I'm so weird for that, but mother earth has so much beautiful browns🤎
Thank you! and Yay! I think thats such a great place to start your YT journey. Yeah people always say its weird for brown to be my favorite, but there are truly so many gorgeous shades!🤎 Happy to hear that you're another brown lover 😂
I'm going to make the Porty cardigan in brown just after I finish the Halibut. I think it was designed by Gudrun Johnston. You might like to choose that pattern for your cardigan!
Hi. Here in Australia we already have hot cross buns out for easier. They always come out the day after Xmas. Lol. Valentines day stuff will be in a couple of weeks
Happy New Year to you! Beautiful sweaters, I definitely want a lower leogh, but not this winter, I've already got 3 on my list. Maybe next winter though. No need to reply to my comments!
Happy New Year! Thank you so much! Lower Leogh will wait, thats the great thing about knitting it doesn't have a shelf life (well except for our own shelf life eek) That's the thing though! I love answering comments! I just am slow at it. I hope you have a great week!
For the record, if you fly out of Stewart Airport (about an hour north of NYC), you can fly Play Airline to Iceland for really, really cheap (flights start at $116 US one way). I just went at the end of November when the volcano erupted. :D I recommend it.
I have heard of this too!! Stewart also has direct flights to Faroe! Another bucket list location. My friend did Iceland and then Faroe from there this summer. I’m so happy to hear another positive review. 🤎
@@caprinecottage They also allow for a stayover (vs. short layover) where you can book a flight that stops in Reykjavik before going on to another destination and you can stay for I think a week before continuing your travel and not pay the extra it would cost if you would buy the two legs of the trip separately. And if you buy over a certain amount of things, they will reimburse you the sales tax (I want to say spend over $100 maybe?) at the airport. Or you can donate the reimbursement to charity, which is what I did.
