hi Katie, thank you so much for visiting Bhutan. Just wanted to say two things; the fabric you showed is actually a kira, we just have to use a kara(belt) to wear it. And the part where you were wearing the kira is kinda wrong, you just have to wear it the other way, so like the folded parts should be on the right side(when you start wearing it, it should start from the left then you have to wrap it counterclock wise) Hope this helps😁 💖
OMG this is SO helpful! I feel bad that I got it mixed up, but I really appreciate you sharing. And Bhutan is probably the best place I've ever visited!
@@KatieMakesStuff no worries😁😁I'm really glad to hear that you found the information helpful! No need to feel bad about mixing things up; it happens to everyone.
The trip looked amazing, and the crafts you showed are fascinating I know you are a making channel but you are mostly a Katie channel and I am happy watching anything you do, so please feel free to show us anything you like xx
I know someone who has been to Bhutan (her husband is a doctor and the whole family went). Absolutely fascinated by the fabrics and traditional dress. Definitely want to see how to make that skirt!
It's such a beautiful country and is now my #1 recommendation for people looking for more adventure travel ideas. I'm excited to work through making a Kira skirt for everyone (and myself)!!

Wait, what? That's so incredibly kind of you to offer. I love just about anything in the blue and green families, but please don't feel obligated. I'm sure you're busy with other projects and life things!
What a lovely trip! 😀 I love hearing your opinions and analysis of other people's textile techniques. I was recently in Japan, and even there, my crafter's mind worked hard with a thousand different ideas and projects, stimulated by the incredible things I saw. Traveling is a great way to expand your mind, it develops humility, the ability to adapt and above all it is a source of inspiration! ❤
I'm jealous!! Japan is on my top 5 places I want to visit! This was the first trip where we intentionally focused on the arts and textiles and I'm thinking I need to plan more trips with that in mind!
@@KatieMakesStuff Japan is fantastic! I highly recommend it! People are kind and polite, and all the places I visited - be it huge cities or tiny villages - have an unique charm. It was so good, I'm already planning to return next year
Hi From South Africa. My name is Kira. I was named this as my mom was reading a russian spy book while she was carrying me. Kira waa one of the characters. So interesting to find my name in another context. Perhaps apt as I have sewn most of my life. Thanks for such a lovely video.
Thank you Katie for sharing your trip, it looks like an amazing place to visit. I’m not a seamstress but would love to see you make a Kira, they look very comfortable and stylish. Great pictures and videos❤❤❤❤
Thank you! This was informative and interesting. ...and THEN you showed us around (at the end) a little, and WOW!!! THAT was beautiful, enticing,... and diverse. I am an animal lover! I want to combine some travel with my interest in many species! . . .my gosh, the beautiful (+ varied) MONKEYS! I love (LOVE) dogs, and it looks as if they are respected enough here, to wander free? 'Love the end with the shot of that great dog up-high! ('wonder what she's thinking!) I hope it was as peaceful as it looks, and that you had some time (other than your climb) that wasn't packed, and so you could take (it) in! ✌❤ & 🪡!
Bhutan was perhaps the most serene country I've ever visited. It's one of the first to have 100% of their dogs and cats spayed/neutered so those that roam free don't contribute to an overpopulation problem. And I think the Buddhist respect for all living creatures allows them to roam without fear of getting run over or abused. If you love nature and wildlife and learning about different cultures, I can't recommend Bhutan enough!
I Too went to Bhutan in 2001( shortly after 911) in November. It was a lovely experience to say the least. I wanted to see a real Buddhist country. I found out that they are as elitist as any other, and refused entry to temples because I am a woman. I now use my Kira skirt as a table cloth.
I went with Go Ahead tours, which is a branch of EF Tours. I've traveled with EF in the past and while they're not the cheapest, I've never had a bad experience so I felt good trying Go Ahead. It was a really well put together tour!

Hello. I will be headed to Bhutan next month. Can you please share specifically where the arts and crafts school is? Thank you.
I want to know how to make a kira skirt! Please let us know how. Thanks!
Can you show the closure in more detail?
I'm going to make a video on how to make the skirt, so it'll show the closure up close and personal.
There’s nothing on your website about this. 😢
I haven't understood the construction principle of the skirt, sorry
Is there anyone who can explain? Thank you!
