I've seen one of the first Linn mounted Gradall's in New Glauster, Maine. Right from the beginning the engineering was done right.

As a child I loved watching Gradalls....when the operator steered from the shovels cab I thought it was magic.....

Had an early 1980’s track Gradall. Great machine, and powerful enough for everything we used it for. Had to secure the boom every time I moved it on the lowbed from job site to job site (too high with boom lowered)

I've always loved this design of the rotatable telescoping boom. As a kid in grade school in the 1950's, I remember a lone empty lot with one of these machines digging out the basement. I was impressed then and now. To my knowledge I have seen nothing like these machines. Carry on Gradall

Ultimately the gradall excavator is very limited compared to a traditional excavator.

      How is that? Please explain.

I don't believe that. I am a Backhoe/Excavator operator with 37 years experience. I don't run gradalls much, but I have to say that with a good Operator a gradall could do 95% of what a conventional Excavator can do. I dug for 2 miles of 12" water main with a 5200 track gradall in rock right through the city streets of Mahwah NJ. And it did everything the PC 220 komatsu that was supposed to come to the job, would have done. The only place I have found the gradall lacking in is digging in shot rock. It sets the mats fine, but larger boulders are a little tougher to grab as compared to a conventional excavator.

The traditional hydraulic excavator has definetly closed the gap compared to the Gradall. But where the Gradall still has them beat is in low overhead situations. That's why they are still so popular in street work. Under power and utility lines where a traditional excavator is troublesome. Also look at a highway chassie model. One machine that can do 90% of what an excavator can do with NO FLOAT truck and driver. There is NO other highway speed excavator, Yes there are wheeled models but they are limited to intercity travel. The Gradall is STILL the most versatile excavator made. Period.

How can you say true to American roots And use Volvo engines in the new ones instead of Cummins? Or Mercedes’ in the older ones. Makes no sense
