  • Like most government entities, the Fort Bend County Road and Bridge Department is under pressure to perform more taxpayer services faster and on a budget. Owner of several Gradall excavators, including two XL 4100 IV models, the department uses them for a very wide variety of jobs: ditching, re-decking bridges, road patching, culvert replacement, setting pipe and even disposing of dead farm animals. In less than two hours one day, the Fort Bend County Road & Bridge Department totally replaced a 30-foot culvert, using one XL 4100 IV excavator and no hand work.

Finally a great video showing its strenths over a conventional excavator..Which would have to have been a large one to stay on flat ground..and would have destroyed the road and that dump bed..Couldn't have dressed it up nicely as quick..and would have had to had at least 5 guys leaning on shovels watching and riding the clock waiting to clean up the detail work..

Thank you for showing this universe excavator
For anyone interested in why the company built these. The Gradall. iconic ARM ACTION. The 5 movements of the human Hand, which give the Gradall. machine operator speed, precision, and versatility. Please check out the Book

The company also made regular Big Excavator's
The (1900) being the Biggest TWO (8V71-Detroit Diesel engines) Largest excavator made in the 1970s. They used them on the Trans Alaska pipeline job. There is a big Gas line contractor in Canada that has the biggest ones you will see, in their equipment yard.

It’s great when you don’t have to attend to the traffic and having a ground spotter to make sure that no one gets close to the counter weight that I had one car go right under mine when I was cleared

Not sure why you would use straight sand to fill around a culvert , water will go right through sand

LooooL Worst Excavator Concept ever 😂
A usual Komatsu PW 170 with an Lehnhoff Rototilt System and a wide standard Bucket would have done the Job faster and cleaner... the only reason i see in using such a boom is in tunneling construction and mines down in the earth... for anything else this is just a waste of time and money

YES sense he is promoting another brand. That speaks volumes for the comment.

Komatsu makes one of the worst rubber tires out there….. That’s why you don’t see any of their old gear around EVER. if you had said CAT 318, Hitachi zx180 or Liebher 918 okay. Even a Volvo 180….. also, a skilled operator on a gradall has the potential to do a lot of work in a short amount of time. Especially in a congested area with lots of overhead and underground.

YES you hit the nail on the head. Skilled operator, low overhead wires, ect. This is where the Gadall Excel is. GRADALL devolvement and Production started in (1944) way before Komatsu or any other brand started developing their version of Teleskoops. My source
The Great book (Warner & Swasey)
      Construction equipment by the Author
James H. Grant. The book is the complete History on Gardall. People just don't understand the multiple different Excavators that the company made.
