- In this project I will show you how you can build your very own Smart plug using ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. The device that we built can easily be plugged into any exiting AC socket and then on the other end you can connect the actual load simply by plugging it into this socket on our device. After that just keep the main switch of your socket always on, and you can control your Load directly from your Smartphone.

Hi, I love the fact that this is made complete from the ground up.
However, good practice says you should have
a diode across the relay to limit inductive spikes from the relay coil when the transistor turns off.

Funny part is. If your smart plug is connected to your router and if your network goes down..then you cant control your router power via smart plug. If you say you will use local network...then sorry it's not smart its just wifi technology...

He connects directly to the device through the device's wifi, not the local network. Similar to a bluetooth connection.

We should add shunt diode to protect reverse current, which can be lethal to the dc circuit

Yeah you can connect it to your existing switch and then connect smart plug to it.

After turning off the modem how can you connect to the ESP8266 module without wifi signal?
We are not using the modem's Wi-Fi signal here. The ESP8266 itself acts as a webserver

ESP8266 needs 3.3V to operate. If you have 5V then you can use a 3.3V regulator like AMS1117-3.3V to get 3.3V
