As a 73 year old fan of this group, this is probably my favorite Arcade Fire song. I love them all, but this one has the energy and emotion I look for in today's pop songs. I often wish there were a much longer version because I ultimately end up listening to it several times in a row.
For me, the line that most strikes a chord is, "Hear the soldier groan, we'll go at it alone." How often is it that our leaders throw us out there to face the worst, then abandon us? Whether it be the soldier in war (anyone ever see the movie or read the book of the same title, "The thin red line," pertaining to WWII's battle on Guadalcanal?) or first responders at a accident/fire/shooting/terrorist event or even the personal care workers at a health care facility-those are the unsung heroes in our midst. It is the average man, woman or child doing their best for another that gives the most and deserves our praise. That is the real meaning of the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. If you've never been, you owe to yourself and the fallen to go and spend some time there in silence. If there is a place for reverence in this world it is there.
Arcade Fire is the calibre of band that serves as a rub-it-in the-face response to any nostalgia tragic who whines and whinges that 'There's no good music these days' or 'Music these days is rubbish'! They obviously have not heard the powerful, finely crafted songs of Arcade Fire.
Awesome song, awesome band. I like how their songs build and build and build... they really have a good sence of how to make a unique sound with alot of instruments W/O making it all sound like just noise. These guys and gals are great.
David Heey I've just watched it on vimeo, woow. the end was disturbing haha, poor guitar, but yet a great performance. But my fav Intervention video is in Reading Festival 2010. You can get all the feelings xx
God I feel like crying! Such an emotional song... So intense! I have goose bumps all over! I keep discovering Arcade Fire songs that have this effect on me LoL! Win is so charismatic :)
@blazers7100 But they won Album of the Year at the Grammy's and the Suburbs sold tonnes of albums... and if you go on wikipedia, you'll find all the list they made. Lots of 'em.
You got a lot of downvotes for that comment, but it makes a lot of sense. Intervention can refer to a military intervention or divine intervention, and this song combines the two. Lyrically, this song is about religion being corrupted for war and the people who pay the price with their lives, but it's such a fucking energetic and gloriously joyful piece that the phrase 'divine intervention' does not sound out of place when describing it.
During the Neon Bible tour Arcade Fire had the finest ensemble of musicians in rock music history IMO. And all the touring musicians - Marika, Colin Stetson and Kelly Pratt - were as up for it as the regular guys. Sadly never to repeated. With the world in such a mess right now I'd love to see Butler bringing that tour back, with the same musicians, but it's wishful thinking.
@TheMrMcPWN Jeremy slows it down like that for the last few beats every time. BTW does anyone know why Win, Richard and Tim appear to turn their back on the audience at the end? I've seen Win do it often, in several songs, but not three of them at once.
Maybe you're right, but because of all the religious stuff, divine intervention is the first thing that crosses my mind, as if the guy believed this kind of thing could happen.
It seems to be more of a criticism of the church for not protecting and taking care of the pastors and other church leaders (soldier) who even when their lives fall apart are expected to keep everything in perfect order which is impossible. So I wouldn't say it is atheistic but rather a critique on the human institution of the church.

"Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home."
This is the most beautifully tragic lyric I have ever heard.

T H I S I S S I C K ! ! ! What a performance! This is absolutely amazing!
here today and this song still hits the right note
I thought this song would be too difficult to perform live and sound good. How wrong I was....awesome performance!
So much drive & passion

One of my favorites of theirs
yeaah! i just came to find people who appreciate this song as much as me :*
Tutty Lévano , agreed. I loved when they preformed this song on SNL.
David Heey I've just watched it on vimeo, woow. the end was disturbing haha, poor guitar, but yet a great performance. But my fav Intervention video is in Reading Festival 2010. You can get all the feelings xx
god i love them so much. spiritual experience of a band ❤️
The best live version of the best song=
I have goosebumps throughout the whole song!!
Wonderful band and great song.....
"Been working for the churc while your life falls apart
Singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart"
que live perfeito
I love this song!!!
Me encanta esta cancion ,trasmite emociony tristeza
Arguably the least-telegraphed key change in rock history, and definitely one of the most emotionally-devastating.
You mean the last verse or the first time he says "will die without a home" ?
@@medicineboy86 From the bridge into that last chorus. That modulation from A to E minor is incredible and makes the song soar to its finish.
They're the masters of subtle key changes. Rebellion and No Cars Go in particular.
Absolute class act
Chills...every time, up and down my spine. I envy them as musicians and artists! Beautiful.
Seeing them in August, really hope they play this tune!
Did they play it?
It's about standing up for yourself and being strong for those in your life who need you.
God I feel like crying! Such an emotional song... So intense! I have goose bumps all over! I keep discovering Arcade Fire songs that have this effect on me LoL! Win is so charismatic :)
Music is a beautiful thing isn’t it
full on goosebumps before the music even started
It is a so cool song.
I love very different instruments in this song.
2:49 the violinist is in tears.....
I think that's just the shadow of her hair on her face
omg you're right. now i'm crying
yes, a shadow
Damn sexy woman.
its not a shadow , I know because Santa told me
ONE OF THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES I HAVE EVER SEEN!

One of the best of my life, for sure. And I've been alive for three quarters of a century!

thank you.
What a G-R-E-A-T song!!
GÉNIAL !
Excelente
i love sara. she is pretty
who went to this show back then is OG
This is my favourite Christmas song, must be those xylophone chimes.
The springsteen- esque glockenspiel
You just killed it for us
that's was intense!
It has to somehow relate to divine intervention. The organs remind me of church immediately. Brilliant song
Good.
this is just great. aw, will on the xylophone. :3
❤
Chad shut it down
*reaches 4:48*
oh no you're not done
*makes it start again*
be sure to check out their A Take Away Show. it happened before this show.
Of course, it can be that ! After all, this is art, you can see what you want, it's a point on view ^^
Just feel the music !
unbelievable got neon bible the last day randomly, best random choice ever
I kept thinking that slide guitar was my kid calling my name 🥺
More like divine intervention. Read the lyrics, they're awesome!
a classic song! "WHO'S GONNA RESET THE BONE"?????
If you don't have goosebumps at 3.14, you don't have a soul.
@blazers7100 But they won Album of the Year at the Grammy's and the Suburbs sold tonnes of albums... and if you go on wikipedia, you'll find all the list they made. Lots of 'em.
And there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd
Any chance you could upload this gig as one whole show please? :)

A voz do Win Butler e similar a do Cris Martim.
For the ordinary people of Ukraine who turned into a a soldier to fight for their country this song is for you guys,,, powerful
se viene lollapalooza chile 2014 :D
@blazers7100 Why haven't more people heard of Arcade Fire? They have.
Well, the singer has a Greg Dully touch!
This beautiful song should become the Irish national anthem
Wrong clip wrong song, thanks for pointing that out wads, it was the voda that probably caused that fo pa
I strongly believe this song is about American interventionalism.
Rick Mayall is still alive!
@TheMrMcPWN Jeremy slows it down like that for the last few beats every time. BTW does anyone know why Win, Richard and Tim appear to turn their back on the audience at the end? I've seen Win do it often, in several songs, but not three of them at once.
I ADORE Arcade Fire, but man that last album didn’t donut for me. Still on board however.
Got 'em at 0:40
My name is NOT wesley
OH WHO's GONNNA RESET THE BONE

intervention as in drug intervention? I really would like to know what this song is all about
Where they are from?
minuto 0.34..se les fue el tono
I think Win Butler is a modern day Elvis.
With all due respect, I like Arcade Fire fine enough too but you need to calm your shit down, that's the King you're talking about
4:00 did the drummer think the song was over? XD
Ben Jordan 7 ? Anybody?
@TheMrMcPWN why?
"The singer"? His name is, Win. Get used to it.
You don't really believe that.
@Snarkleflak Nah man, its about George W Bush.
@blazers7100
Step One: Get more Cultured Friends
svršavanje
Needs moar organ
This ain't no Myle Cyrus, folks.
shouldn't compare that trashy excuse of a singer with this Magnificent group. Arcade Fire is much more in tune with music.
