What a beautiful and green talent she was so unfortunate that she went through so many hardships in her life. But she was so awesome songstress❤

She was always one of my favorites. My mother " absolutely" loved her. I grew to appreciate her talent and beauty. She deserved better!!! Thank you so much for introducing this generation to a true pioneer!!!

Thank you, this was a very fair and balanced assessment of a complex personality. I loved the clip of Birmingham Bertha, I loved the sassiness and confidence in her performance. I also enjoyed the duet she did at the end. What a legend! Bless you for this.

Well done. One minor mistake; Waters was not Oscar nominated for THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING. The studio pushed for Julie Harris to be nominated for the film (which she was) over Waters because they felt she was more likely to win, and they did not want Harris and Waters nominated in the same category as they would likely cancel each out. Of course, Shirley Booth ended up winning. I've always felt that had Ethel been nominated she likely would have won.

I highly recommend Stephen Bourne's slim but fascinating biography. Donald Bogle's biography is HUGE but also worth consulting.

Lizzie Allen I agree, both are great books on the life of Ms. Waters. They were resources for this video (in the notes for this video).

Wow. Even she was treated horribly. She became bitter towards people but you wouldn't know it on stage. That's why they are called gifts. When you use them it reminds you of God and his love and everything else falls away.

Ethel called herself American. Yet, she was the first black American for a lot of things. I know it's disgusting that a distinguishment was ever made but it was. It is important to remember but not important to keep that distinction. Makes it complicated to describe her to friends but it'll all work out because the most important thing is she is a child of God.

She called herself a Christian and an American she never called herself an African American, follow her and read her book, The Eye is on the Sparrow. She followed Jesus, she was born again and a true believer in her Savior. She is in heaven with her Savior. She finished the race well and the Lord welcomed her home.

There is no misunderstanding with how Ms. Waters identified. I’ve researched her life for some time. His Eye Is On The Sparrow was a resource for this video (in the video notes). On my channel I will use African American or Black American when referring to Black people in the U.S. (especially descendants of slaves). Thanks for watching and sharing.

Ethel Waters said, “I don’t let nobody brand me or label me. I am Ethel Waters, an American”, per Dick Cavett Show 1972. What an indomitable woman. Enjoyed the bio & hot photos. Extra enjoyed the narrators voice. Yours?

Increíble lo que vivió. Con DIOS en su vida, todo cambió. Vivió(desde entonces), para la gloria de DIOS.
