i enjoyed this biography so much. it popped up when i was watching her sing Heatwave. I loved the songs at the end and the duet with Pearl Bailey had me smiling through the entire song. It was delightful. I have subscribed. I will love learning about the lives of prominent black women!

Dorothy Dandridge is myy favorite actress and singer of all time. I fell in love with Dorothy while watching "Bright Road" in 1953. She played a beautiful teacher and I loved my teacher. I was 8 years old and I'll turn 80 in December. Thanks for sharing.

Marlena Dietrich starred in a movie with the very popular African theme in those days, stripping off a ferocious gorilla costume as a blond Venus. And like Dietrich She was very active entertaining soldiers during wartime, but She was also a spy. A true heroine on many levels. A national French treasure. I wonder if Joesephine wasn't an inspiration for Grace Jones.

Ethel Waters was THE First in every category! I loved her and continue to adore all she did and all she meant.

I learned about her from the Viola Davis movie. However, I never heard of Ma Rainy before and that was disappointing because im a huge Blues music fan.

I had the opportunity to visit the school when I was in junior high school and I was so impressed by the dedication, the time and energy Katherine Dunham had dedicated to keeping young children off the streets where crime was rampant. Astounding biography of her🙏🏽Ase’
