I wonder if Joesephine wasn't an inspiration for Grace Jones.

Ethel Waters was THE First in every category! I loved her and continue to adore all she did and all she meant.

I learned about her from the Viola Davis movie. However, I never heard of Ma Rainy before and that was disappointing because im a huge Blues music fan.

I had the opportunity to visit the school when I was in junior high school and I was so impressed by the dedication, the time and energy Katherine Dunham had dedicated to keeping young children off the streets where crime was rampant. Astounding biography of her🙏🏽Ase’

Seeing her later pictures and show stopping images; and hearing about her very early childhood, the financial underprivilege, the cut-throat world of show business as a black or white performer, Miss Josephine was several things I do believe. She was a consummate star and lady, who performed on her own terms, almost impossible a thing back then or now.A true mother, on her own terms, an activist and an old soul.
