  • Replacing the front wheel bearings on an atv is not hard to do, and really does'nt require any special tools. I did use a press to install the bearings, but have replaced many in the past using the old bearing as shown in the video, a block of wood and a hammer. Do it yourself and save money!
    Thanks for watchin'!

How did you grind that old bearing down if you dont mind. Did you just keep rounding it on a grinding wheel or what? Really great tool to have!

I don't have a press so I use a little grease a socket that fits the outside edge of the bearing and tap it in with a hammer.

Speaking of advance, I would check yours. 84 was the last year 200 that had a mechanical advance up on the cam. they tended to wear out and not work right. Also the pulser coil plate up there is adjustable, and if it has moved that will alter the timing too. I have a video called Pt.3 ATC200S How To Adjust The Valves that shows the advance and pulser working correctly. Hope it helps.

Really good video! I couldnt tell but are there any grease zerks around any of the tie rod ends or ball joints on atvs? If not how do you keep them in good condition?

Yep, been there, done that! Welding a bead to the inside of the outer race also shrinks the race slightly, making it easier to remove.

I have a 2002 Grizzly 660, When replacing the outside front boot I saw a loos O-ring floating by the wheel bearings, just where dose this o-ring belong, I see it included in the front bearing kit, however I don't see that you mention any such o-ring, anyway I left it out at this time not seeing any obvious spot for it, however if I find a place for it I will put it in. any help would be appreciated. Oh nice tutorial you put together.

Thank you for your videos. Rebuilt my 1990 300 Honda fourtrax's carb, the starter, brakes and installed new bearing and rear axle with your videos. I don't think I would have even attempted it without your help. Now I just bought a 2005 King Quad 700 and found this video.... I appreciate your work. So well explained that after I rebuilt carb and starter on Honda without ever seeing one before I couldn't believe I actually did it..... Lol. If you ever work on other things for king quad I will look forward to watching them as well.

Help...I was dry fitting the hub to the knuckle with new bearing and find that the hub doesn't slip on...I took one of the old bearings and find that the inner race too doesn't slide on the hub's spindle. What gives?
also with the two new bearings in, the spacer is pinched real tight where it doesn't rattle. It seems the inner circle of the new bearings are slightly higher than the outer bearing. thus when fully seated against, pinches the spacer. what gives?

Hey D-Ray! First I gotta say thanks for posting these awesome videos.. they're invaluable! I do have a Q though.. I'm doing the front bearings on my wife's 05 eiger and some 3 of the 4 ball joint pinch bolts are stripped. Is it acceptable to drill out the threads in the knuckle, and replace with slightly longer bolts with locktite, a lock washer and hex nut? (making sure the diameter and amount of smooth shaft is the same) There appears to be ample clearance..
    Thanks again,
    Paul

Anyone ever have to use zip ties on a cv boot? Any suggestions? Those steel bands included with the boot are very hard to tighten and I don't seem to trust them. Pipe clamps won't clear so my options are steel wire or zip ties
