      It looks intense and fun, but holy fuck the mandatory double weaves might just kill me, especially with the monk/samurai attack speed buff
      I thought machinist killed your fingers while weaving richochet during overheat, but for viper you can't even hold the ogcd's for a better time, just HIT EVERY BUTTON
      Though upkeeping 3 buffs at once does sound like fun

    I feel like it's going to make a lot more sense once we have it in our hands. Also, I'm amazed they didn't call the Serpent's Ire Gauge the Venom Gauge.

    Was worried that all skills except for the last hit in Reawaken were single target, luckily the tooltips at the end proved me wrong lol. Great video!

      Honestly I don't think having a bad ping will be "too" much of a dps loss. Most of the ogcd's are single weaves between attacks and that wasn't the worst with machinist and richochet during overheat. Though it helps if your internet is stable, so you can play around the delay for actions. With unstable internet I guess you just get fucked

      Honestly the only problem for me the main problem is fat fingering the weaves.

      @@aftertone3146 the best thing to ever happen to high ping players. alex is an application that injects into your client and starts up on game launch. noclippy is a plugin in the XIVlauncher (3rd party launcher) plugin hub. they both do the same thing but essentially eliminate heavy gcd/ogcd delay from latency. highly recommend using one even if you have average ping. completely changes your combat experience.

      Apparently its even "greedier" than the alternatives because apparently every single button (save for the gap closer) is damage oriented, and forgoes even a simple defensive self buff that even the other jobs have (Third Eye for SAM, Manaward for BLM, etc.)

    Didn’t catch it in this video but how does your burst look? Is there a way to fill 50 gauge at start for buffs window?

      Yeah, you have a 2 min cd that allows you to enter burst without gauge (it also gives you 1 rat stack)

      Along with the information above, most jobs this expansion don't have skills that raise their gauges by 50 anymore (like Red Mage, Machinist, Reaper, etc.). Instead, SE now makes it so those skills were repurposed to allow a free spending of what originally used up your gauge. So for example, Machinist's Barrel Stabilizer no longer increases the heat gauge by 50, but instead allows a free use of Hypercharge. There's only the occasional odd duck this expansion that did not receive this QOL feature in their kits (Warrior, Samurai to name a few). But like is said in all these videos, this is an early build & not an accurate representation of the final build. It's just a sneak peak, so maybe the jobs that "forgot" this QOL may receive it down the line, maybe on day 1 or maybe not at all.

    Weird to see what is essentially RPR deluxe when RPR itself failed to get any changes to evolve it in its own way. Viper certain looks fun at least, flashy if nothing else, and yeah, doesn't really entice me like Pictomancer does, but I'm excited to try it out.

      i feel like they are running out of ideas for classes or it could the 2 min bursts format they really want to uphold that the root of the problem. i wonder what they do in 8.0 for class identity when reaper and viper both have a pretty similar identities.

      Since we only have 3 ranged phys, next expansion, we SHOULD get a new ranged phys, but I thought the same with Reaper but then they added Viper too, so who even knows anymore.

      @@williamkraut5849 Yoshi stated in an interview that they don't seperate the jobs via Melees/Phys.ranged/caster but via Melees/Ranged... if you think about it this way then there were 5 Melees vs 6 ranged in Endwalker. So it makes sense to get another melee from this perspective even tough I don't agree with summarizing casters and phys.ranged into one pig pot

    even though i'm not the best and most reliable player due to a disability, i've been waiting for this class and can't wait to play it!
    it seems a little complicated to play, but somehow it also looks like a lot of fun. I will definitely play the viper and if I play the only solo and for me. dawntrail will offer so much to discover, i hardly notice when i play shit ;)

      It’s very comfy on controller, I put the basic combo and gem spender on one side and the rest on the other and it worked o it very nicely

    I plan on maining dancer for this expansion but i will probably end up with Viper as a secondary cause it seems like a very fun class to play

    You dont need thr gauge to help u tbh, Viper has some smart system that'll have the hotbar light up for which ever buffs duration is lowest. So literally just look at your buttons and press whatever lights up.

    Melee already scares me with its rotations (I came from WoW, not used to 500 buttons 😅) so this scares the hell out of me, though I’ll definitely give it a try

    Complicated GCD rotation and whack-a-timer gameplay with burst windows? This sounds a lot like Heavensward NIN, in a way. That's a good thing in my book. Current NIN is very fun, don't get me wrong, but HW NIN was fun in a very different way, and I've kinda been wanting a job like that again.

      @@Medbread To be fair it has the most total and most frequent positionals in the game, and they are always swapping back and forth. Monk doesn't even come close as both jobs have a positional every 3 GCDs, but Monk gets to stay at the flank for 11 GCDs and only move to the rear for a single Demolish. Viper constantly rotates between Flank and Rear every 6 seconds AND the twinblade combo (40s CD) has a gibbet/gallows style back-to-back positional requirement which also requires a double weave mid movement.
      The combos aren't complicated since you are led through them and there's no perfect balance to mix things up, but god damn will you be fighting for your LIFE to maintain positional uptime on any boss that likes to turn around and walk to the center of the arena every 12 seconds.

      But I think nonexistence of complexity is the case at least in melee role. Like, the only thing left that can be fucked up by some mechanics and will require some actual planning is TCJ, which is really sad.

    I hate that the same buttons change to different positionals. All the other melees, I've had flank positionals on the top row and rear positionals on the second row. With this system, I'm going to fail positionals constantly because it fights with my eyes' muscle memory.

      Indeed, im so used to having all the positionals on d-pad left and/or right and down, and i push them only when have to. With this im scared that im gonna watch the action bar the whole fight to see when they change to positionals and therefore miss most of the boss aoe. But have to wait and try it myself, it might be good also.

    As a guy who plays a lot of NIN I was kinda bummed to see how simple and forward this job is. I guess it being "fast" is the sacrifice for utility and stuff but it feels more like Melee MCH where you just kinda hit your buttons and call it a day. I'll be curious to see what I think when I get my hands on it but coming off of Mudras, Ninki, Huton, etc management just going "hit buttons in order" isn't really what I was hoping for from the second scouting class. :/

      @@DarianAntilles its not just classes/jobs, its the game in general that has been made easier. just look at the last few expansions and the overall mechanics that has been dummed down for general players. most of the jobs are pretty easy too. you can even go back as recent as shadowbringers to see this. take dancer for exaple, easy. gunbreaker is a tank so not really all that complex. then you have endwalker with reaper which is easy af, with sage only being slightly difficult. now you have viper, which looks to be easy mode, and picto being slightly more comlicated. like its not an opinion to say that the game is easier, its a fact.

      @@pizzaaFAENOkay, and why is an accessible game not desirable? You’re acting as if 90% of the player base is clearing ultimates because of the ease of rotations. Or would you prefer EVERYONE be bound to The Balance, reading spreadsheets on how they can gain .5% more DPS if they cast X spell or use Y potion at the 16-second mark of a pull? What is it you desire more from an MMO, a vast player base with all sorts of individuals, or a game where you bust your ass endlessly to unlock cosmetics/titles just to get “nice” from like two people while you AFK in Limsa?

    Looking at the job descriptions, I like it.
    It seems like an awfully simple job in terms of how much juggling of resources and upkeep you need to do, most of the time the upkeep and resources juggle themselves as long as you chain the combos properly.
    What I really liked about it is each "skill" is more like a button rather than a skill, and you press the buttons in specific orders to go through your rotation as the buttons change in their behaviour depending on what is pressed before it. I like it, this feels like a dynamic system as it feels like pressing a combo sequence in a fighting game. In terms of job button feel, this feels like its going to be pretty fun.
    Once you get the hang of the combo sequences and button sequences though, the job mechanics seems to be very straight forward. So in a sense, you can consider this like a "gimmick" job.
    I do like this direction for how jobs go but they could try something more resource and timer upkeep in the future while adding different freedom of combo paths in the future.

    I just noticed. How are there holes in the job emblems design? Aren’t certain people gonna have problem with that just how it was for Sage before they changed it?

    Viper looks really interesting, but I'm not a fan of all eight of those GCDs being on two buttons.
    It's great as an option but I'd much prefer the option of having them all seperate since it works better for me

    So ... if I wanted to play a Viper, since I can't get access to this until level 80, I would have to play a class I might not like until then? I wonder why they do this? I assume there is a very good reason to lock certain classes behind levels but it escapes me.

      These classes tend to be balanced around their higher levels. The idea is that you're going to play them to take them into the most recent expansion. As a new player, it's much better for you to start with a more basic class so you can understand the way the game works.

    I am just happy we finally get another DPS Job using swords for people who are not into Samurai...
    Honestly, the one thing that has always bugged me is that all the good sword classes, the sword and shield, the Zweihänder, and the Gunblade are for some weird reason Tanks, and the only DPS Option is the Weeb Class that isnt even accurate to how a Samurai would do Battle, using a Decorative Status Symbol as a weapon...

    Viper just seems so uninspired compared to Pictomancer, nothing says generic skill like literally adding the positional + the word strike to name it.

    Eh, not sure I like having four different gauge things to keep track of, or the job's apparently incessant need to be firing things off or your whole rotation plummets (because mechanics can and will stop you cold). I think I may have over-estimated how much I was going to like Viper if it's going to be such an erratic mess.

    I'm thinking of replacing monk with this as my dps class. Since monk was reworked it's become a boring job. The only issue that monk ever had was a lack of a ranged ability. Every other class has at least one. Except monk. 😢. It's sad because I've been playing monk since the ARR beta

      If you're still progressing MSQ do your levelling roulette every day as well while progressing the story. You'll outpace the MSQ level bracket pretty quickly and could probably swap to Viper well before finishing Shadowbringers. I know people in my FC who hit max level on their main job long before catching up on MSQ.

    I really don't like it cuz the enjoyment factor solely lies in your healers, which is not a great design.

      I was seeing someone say because of the fast pace at which Viper seems to attack, Bloodbath could come in clutch. Not mitigation, but it'll be interesting to see if that's truly how it's going to work out.
