It's the #1 thing that turns people off. #2, get rid of the tier goals. Nobody cares about gunner glasses or silly hats. Instead, do a goal along these lines: $100 in tips within, say, an hour and a half equals an extra hour of streaming. Believe me, your true fans will contribute more if there's something in it for them. #3, shorten your podcast. Nobody comes to you for your speeches. The podcast should be AT MOST half an hour to give people time to settle in. #4, the games. It's clear to everyone you're not truly enjoying the games you're playing. Stop playing games you think will make money and start playing stuff you enjoy and are good at. That will give you the ability to be more engaged with your audience. #5, stop limiting what people chat about. When people are talking amongst themselves in your chat, let them. Unless there's blatant racism or bullying going on, let them talk. If you hosted a party and 200 people showed up, would you expect all 200 people to only talk to you or about your topics? That'd be unreasonable and insane. I honestly don't watch your stuff, but I've seen enough from your detractors to notice this stuff. And I think, if you adopt these changes, you'll see better results. Also, none of these changes will cost you a dime, so, realistically, what do you have to lose by trying them out?"

That's a pretty accurate number. He's so declarative in that first hot take and says all kinds of wild crap, then he stubbornly refuses to admit error until the TROLL arc has lost utility. Once it's an old arc, then he circles back years later. But that's the worst for him personally, like catastrophic really. Minecraft was overwhelmingly the best example, he could've made tons.
Then when it fails he'll say "YOU asked for this!?". In his brain a good idea is his own idea, he thought of it. Why else would he be doing it if he didn't think of it? Broadcast television shows do not ask you to donate every 15 minutes, they make advertising deals with companies that want to advertise their products. Much like the "shill" youtubers that take advertising deals/sponsorships to make an income so they do not need to every ask their audience for money. It's not even remotely the same thing.

If he can't manipulate the facts to feed into his own regarded narrative, he will lash out and lean into full hostility and toxicity because not only does being proven wrong destroy his ego, it also exposes him. For all but the most dented of dents, even the slightest chance that people in his audience can have a moment of independent thought is a threat to his gacha fund, and with support being what it is for him lately, I think that frightens him a lot more than he lets on.

That's a pretty accurate number. He's so declarative in that first hot take and says all kinds of wild crap, then he stubbornly refuses to admit error until the TROLL arc has lost utility. Once it's an old arc, then he circles back years later. But that's the worst for him personally, like catastrophic really. Minecraft was overwhelmingly the best example, he could've made tons.
Then when it fails he'll say "YOU asked for this!?". In his brain a good idea is his own idea, he thought of it. Why else would he be doing it if he didn't think of it? A bad idea is something someone else suggested, that's why it failed in his head. It was someone else's idea so it must be bad. He'll even blame his wife for bad ideas remember the chair spin? Well that his wife's idea, that's why it was stupid.
DSP just enjoys hearing himself talk and shut down all suggestions just to feel smarter and bigger than his viewers.
It's like when a person is sulking and wants attention. When their friends try to help them, they tell them why it won't work and deep down just wants the pity and handouts. Not to mention the absolute audacity to call his viewers 'entitled', when DSP is the one who feels entitled.

The more Phil doesn't like the feedback, the more he has a totally instinctual desire to gaslight that feedback into oblivion. His worst cases of gaslighting are so blatant that theyd be a case study of what that is. Like how he calls it the "stupidest thing ever" etc, that's gaslighting 101, when it's crystal clear the feedback bothered him because it tripped him up by raising a legit point. He reacts to the most sound negative feedback far worse than some dumb trolly comment. I'll concede some of the feedback is designed to trip him up, but he created that negative feedback at the end of the day, and you can't just start lying about it as a response. Just saying nothing is far better.

Broadcast television shows do not ask you to donate every 15 minutes, they make advertising deals with companies that want to advertise their products.

Right off the bat a problem I've always had with the podcast is how he uses all of his talking points so when he plays games he has nothing to talk about. He calls that a stupid suggestion. Yes, he'd rather have dead air and meaningless commentary that amounts to 'what do I do' and 'hey look at that thing on screen *Proceeds to describe it*' or 'this game is shit' why can't this guy talk about something that's not about the game? Ever had a friend over and while playing games you only focus on that and never tangent off into something else? It means you get more play time, and less dead air. It's a win-win, but it's actually stupid to Phil. Of course. Probably because he wants to hear himself talk, stretch out the game further by cutting half an hour of gameplay out, or maybe even cause he's too dumb to play and talk coherently. Cause when he really wants to talk he just puts the controller down and talks.
This is already starting off toxic and a waste of time. Another theme of this is every suggestion boils down to 'do what everyone else does, so no.... dumbass' why is he so agaisnt doing what others do.... you know.... things that have proven to work? Man he really is dense. But I guess after making fun of more successful people for so long and letting envy and pride control his descisions means he can't do that now. Or else he'll get the 'you're acting like everyone else' thing come up and piss him off. Basically has talked himself into an unsustainable corner. I also thought the same thing. He's complained about this before. When he takes a suggestion starts doing it and then people tellhim to not do that. He blames them for never being satisfied, or that he can never do good cause he's a lolcow or something and never considers that maybe he just sucks at doing that idea. The truth is Phil's worst enemy and goes against everything he has based his "business" upon. If he can't manipulate the facts to feed into his own regarded narrative, he will lash out and lean into full hostility and toxicity because not only does being proven wrong destroy his ego, it also exposes him. For all but the most dented of dents, even the slightest chance that people in his audience can have a moment of independent thought is a threat to his gacha fund, and with support being what it is for him lately, I think that frightens him a lot more than he lets on.
It’s my biggest gripe about how he treats his viewers - it’s a community, so let them talk about what they want in the chat as it’s probably the only place they all congregate together
