I’ve been modeling armor for over 40 years. I’ve followed Sheperd Paine, Verlinden , Tony Greenland and other talented modelers, but you my friend are in the top master class. Not only are you talented you are a great teacher! Thank you for your detailed presentations!
Night Shift: goes out his way to make the most detailed weld beads and custom grab handles and equipment for models Also Night Shift: “waterslide details are more convenient”
The decals are the best part in my opinion, because they adapt to the textures and they look like they are actually painted on the tank Anyway great job as always! 👏
Hi Uncle Night Shift. I still don't build tank models, but I watch all your videos. Great technics for other types of sculpture too. I do have a 1:35 M5A1 Stuart that I plan on kit-bashing into "Tank Girl's" tank hopefully in the near future. Your tips should be very helpful with that. Thanks 🙂
Maybe it's no longer a big deal, but thank you for recording in such a quality. Today I had time to watch on a larger divice than a smartphone, really enjoyed the crisp footage!
If any RUclips channel about a relatively niche hobby could succeed as an actual tv show, it’d be this one. Not only are you talented, informative, and engaging, but your videos are a welcome relief from the rest of the world and its problems.
The stripes on the turret are fantastic! The chipping, mapping, and paint runs compliment the turret texture really well. The paint job highlights the textures without covering anything up, great job!
Just listened to your interview on the Sprue Cutters Union podcast and you hit all the highlights of that episode in this video haha- gloss before decal, MRP evangelizing, and the power of inks. Great video as always! Not to mention it's nice to see some Soviet steel again- there's something so brutal and alluring about the designs. You certainly do these subjects justice with your work. The story that unfolds from what you've presented thus far really captures the reality of Soviet wartime industry in a way that makes the history come alive. As a curiosity, have you ever considered doing a kit from start to finish without an airbrush (except for maybe varnishing) for the channel? I'd be interested to see how far brush techniques can go and what skills you're able to refine, discover, or master. Cheers!
I watch a lot of model builders on RUclips and I can confidently say, you are the best at Armor on the platform. I like watching your videos even though I only build Aircraft. Your painting is amazing.
I love how that rear deck behind the turret (and everything in general) turned out with the different shades of highlighting. Also how heavy the metal tracks look with all the sag in them...so realistic. 😎
Talk about a mean green fighting machine awesome job my friend. You have inspired me to start post shading on my models and I will look into buying some filters.
Very big respect, it's just fantastic what you build, your precision, your perfect implementation of your templates, just a great channel. keep it up Martin. Greetings from Germany
I personally think your a better modeler than Wilder! Most people would be very satisfied with they're personal models if it looked just like it is at this stage! You are advancing the hobby through your imagination and natural artistic ability's and I am learning more and more from you.......Thank You!
Hi Martin! This is definitely the best soviet green base coating ever! I love your models and I started building tanks (I was an aircraft modeller) thanks to you. I’ve learned a lot and I’m going to build a king tiger from takom in 1/35 scale, inspired buy a book called “ PANZERS IN BERLIN 1945” where I found this tiger 311 with some photos and instantly fell in love with it. Hope you’ll do another cat soon, maybe the royal one!
Video idea: do a tank on on a budget, meaning no airbrush, rotary tool, or tons of random paints. That would be so cool and so helpful for me and im sure many other people
Excellent work! In the world of AFVs, it's mostly earth tones and dull/drab colors (all about blending in) - amazing how you make this field interesting as you say. I see why the 4BO is a nice change. Kinda on the same subject as blending in, I understand the "thought" behind invasion strips, but sure seems to counter the notion of camo.... cheers.
I have an octopus stand tool too! That is a good idea to put a screw in the model to mount. I will try and get MRP paints in Canada if I can. well done!
Very authentic Russian color palette. You are right about Tamiya's yellow-green. It's useful for shading US WWII cockpits, as well. I find that I enjoy mixing to get the right color that I want. Gunze Sanyo has some off the wall colors that come in handy, too. Nice work, as usual.
Greetings Martin, that beast is looking great, the markings looked very realistic, ther is something about those WWII Russian beast, looking forward to the next installment, very bext regards from Australia
Nice work modelcomrade. I have a IS 2 to in my "Little" Depot. And your advice s for the painting is Very intresting for me🤗🤗😉⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐For the Model Greets from Christian at Germany
I’m actually really impressed with the ammo shader results. It really doesn’t look like it was added on after the fact let alone haphazardly like that!
I find that it is easy to get paint iut of those MRP bottles. Hold the bottle upside-down in one hand and tap the bottom of the bottle with the index finger. You will get one drop for each tap. Might have to tap it 20+ times, but it works well.
Thank you for paying attention to Soviet armored vehicles. I would like to make a small clarification regarding the color of the paint. Russian modelers have long been discussing the topic of painting Soviet armored vehicles during the Great Patriotic War. True 4BO paint has not been produced since 1952. However, according to various sources, it was possible to restore the approximate composition and color. In the RSL color space, it has the following composition: 96-87-55 or a lighter version - 103-91-61. I think that if you have a calibrated monitor, you can quite accurately prepare a mixture of paints to simulate 4BO paint.
Well, I don't think 4BO wasn't as standardized as are colors today. Then there is the issue of exposure to sunlight. One would think that colors always fade, but that applies only to years of exposure, which was hardly the norm in wartime. One source states that 4BO could get darker, not lighter, when exposed to sunlight. In short, I wouldn't worry too much about the one "true" 4BO...
@@jczeus As for the influence of the Sun, then, of course, the color changed. However, the composition of 4BO was strictly regulated. Even the pigments that were part of this paint were of a strictly defined origin. Of course, upon the arrival of equipment in combat units, it was sometimes repainted to match the conditions of the area, and in winter it was completely changed color.
Wow, amazing work as always Martin, just a question with airbrushing though. How do you airbrush without the nozzle, I know it allows for more detail but whenever I try to do it it doesn't work. Anything I should be doing? It's probably got something to do with the PSI, and how thinned the paint is (thats my guess).
@@ХомякХомяков-ъ3м естественно, тут есть высветления, без них в конце будет унылое тёмное говно. Это не конец, оно ещё успеет прийти к нужному оттенку. Для данного этапа это отличный результат
When you add 30% Xf-4 to 70% 4bo, what percentage is X-22? I will be starting work soon, so please let me know. I would really appreciate it. And I use the Vallejo Russian Green surfacer, can I mix Tamiya acrylics with it?
Night Shift could you please do a video of a Games Workshop Leman Russ tank? It's an old kit, very simple, with lots of blank spaces that I think you could really go to town on with your skills and knowledge of tanks, and show just what is possible with it. Incredibly for a 30 year old kit that has sold a lot, there are few examples out there with stowage, weld beads or extra details. I think it would prove a very popular video. Thanks!
Just a tip I've heard and tried but citadel contrast medium is amazing at uniforming the carrier film on decals if you're having a problem with that :)

It's such a fun world, dull of possibilities! Uncle got me back into it also!

Dude you are a master and so humble.
Love your work, your explanations, and your vids!

It takes a real artist to make 4 ounces of plastic look like 40 tons of steel!
Fantastic work. As someone who just bought an airbrush, I'll be using your videos as a major help
