"Liar liar pants on fire." Really? Totally unprofessional. He chose to help his son for 2 months instead of doing the work he had already contracted for his clients. That's his right, but if he makes that choice, then give the customers their money back so they can hire someone else who is more committed to their clients. I thought both defendants seemed very shady; I'm glad plaintiff got her money back.
That’s irrelevant to the case. She made it clear that the condition under which she signed the contract was the deadline. They were clearly aware based on the testimony of the defendant and his witness.
Office manager Lou-Anne is rude. “These women… I guess I should call them customers”. Unnecessary. “This has been a problem before”… maybe you should stop and look at the common denominator. If this keeps happening maybe you should take a minute to ask yourselves why?
I was wondering what the defendant was doing when he half way stood up in the middle of the judge interviewing him - leg cramp? Really? Unfortunate timing! I thought the plaintiff's story seemed more believable than the defendant's. Both defendants blame it on "impatient women" when in reality the plaintiff had a formal letter from the HOA holding her accountable by a certain date.
That office manager would say whatever it takes to get the money in. She is the type to "fudge" the month and say June to get the signature on the contract, then reveal it is really "July" once she has the contract on file. Contractors do this sort of thing all the time, and now denies she ever said that to keep deposit money. She might be good at her job, but I would need to look outside to check the reality if she said the sky is blue.
I feel for the contractor but his witness was his downfall. She couldn’t speak an entire sentence without stuttering or pausing to think of what to say. Maybe she was nervous. Maybe she was lying. Either way I think she cost the defendant the case.
I think she was his downfall because she blamed “women” / customers for expecting work to be done on time and the judge doesn’t like it when people do that. I am no feminist but I cringed when she said that lol
The guy took two months off to help his son. You don't do that when you own a business FFS. Especially when you only have 2 workers, then you don't take on more jobs than you can handle.
except it wasn't. plaintiff got ANOTHER extension by going to a different company......after doing NOTHING about getting the problem fixed for over a year.
What got me was when he tried to use the excuse of "I'm a small business, I only have two other employees" in the same sentence as talking about taking two months to work on his son's place. If you're a small business and that many people waiting, don't go vanishing for two full months then being upset when people are frustrated.
The roofers put that woman in a box with others that they look down on. They took their time and thought she was going to lay down and take it. I believe the defendants are a holes. I'm glad the plaintiff got her money back.
The defendant may be a good contractor, he seemed ok, but he needs a new office manager. She's rude, manipulative and will say anything necessary to cover her ass.... not a surprise they've had issues like this before (her words), she is the common denominator.
I hope everyone near them gets to see this and avoids that company. He didn’t have a leg cramp. He wanted us all to see the logo on his shirt. Also, I have a feeling the defendant is behind some of these comments. 😂

I wouldn't trust someone who says they got connections that grant special allowances and who says they informed the client of it, but don't have any proof. I remember reroofing my home which at the time cost me about 12 grand. Then I realized what major responsibility it was to own a home. But I'd rather own my own property as oppose to renting which gets you nowhere in the long run. I look at it as giving away money to have a roof over your head as oppose to purchasing a place which gives you major equity that builds over time.
Aye..... Unless you can't afford to buy. I rented lots in a place with tornado season. And if the roof gets ripped off it's the landlords issue, not mine. At that point I was happy enough that we all lived. Worked at the hospital at that time so I was more happy that I could bring a wife from ICU down to him to see each other.
How is hiring a contractor and informing them of a 60 day deadline which they agree to meet and provide her with a contract…then they lie and try to keep $700…her fault?

Not true no one can guarantee they would not care, that's just your experience and opinion. The plaintiff just wanted what she paid for. She procrastinates yes but that has nothing to do with the defendant. If they can't deliver a service by a certain date then don't take the job.

I agree. They should have been able to keep something for their time. The Plaintiff's urgent matter does not make an emergency for the defendant!!
