I'm guessing the super big advantage is that they can use local atmosphere for plasma instead of Tibanna gas, that by itself would make them sought after, just for economic reasons! Granted I am just basing that hypothesis on the fact that they have big open rails and visible no gas canisters, but it's a good guess...
I'd say WW2 German Army. Highly advanced weaponry, used stimulants to help keep them awake/push them harder, yet eventually lost to an enemy who had inferior technology
I read somewhere in the comments of an Ubaran Arc clip that the helmets were likely used to pump in stimulants, but I disregarded the notion; thinking that they probably just couldn’t breathe on their own world. At the same time though, I felt that didn’t really make sense when I did a double take.
Wow! Just wow! Didn't know that Umbarans wore helmets which were filled with stimulents, not oxigen(yep, that confused me. Thought they somehow couldn't breathe their own air due to the planet's dark atmosphere) to make them stronger. As many others in the comments said, they were in fact centuries ahead in technology.
The Empire actually started using Umbaran tech, and from the sounds of it, had a fairly cordial relationship with Umbara. I always like to think of Umbara as a hiccup in Palpatine's plan since he didn't orchestrate the senate murders, which is why he full sends republic forces and makes sure that the CIS are unable to land troops on the planet to reinforce the heavily outnumbered and outgunned Umbarans. This is also backed up by the fact that the Empire, unlike the republic, was perfectly happy to allow Umbara to be independent, and it was rebel aggression which saw Umbaran tech being stolen and used against imperial civilians that forced the Empire to occupy the planet.
why didnt the republic just capture and study umbaran tech after they captured the airbase with working starfighters and most likely umbaran blasters aswell?
Another reason could become palpatine didn't want either side to have the technology because if the republic and the C.I.S. had gotten their hands on it either side could end the war before palpatine was ready for it to end. Perhaps that's why he didn't have the republic salvage any of the umbaran technology after recapturing the planet. Sidious/palpatine also probably had sly moore make sure the tech didn't fall into the hands of either side.
None of these developments would have changed the Clone Wars because Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was controlling the entire war on both sides to a pre-determined conclusion anyway.
Choosing not to share your technology is one thing. But the Republic could have picked apart wrecks, suits, blasters, or intact vehicles in captured bases. The only ones who even touched an Umbaran weapon after it was finished shooting were a couple of rogue clones.

Why didn't Umbaran military tech get adapted and put into widespread use in the Republic and Empire after the fall of Umbara? To clarify, I understand the Umbaran's were secretive of their technology and capabilities but after the planets downfall, what prevented the Republic from capturing acquiring and adapting the tech?
Note umbara focused on ground and air based tech. There star ships where serverly lacking in there advanced fields. Which makes more scenes when you consider the umbarans may have preferred fortified planetary Warfar and gurila warfare
I don't think the Umbaran technology was actually more advanced than most of the galaxy, just that they had different preferences with what they had. Ball lightning-esque projectiles, for instance, are things we see elsewhere, including large scale ion weaponry like the Seperatist battleship at the start of the series and the ion bomb partway through, as well as on the smaller scale with cultures seen as being relatively primitive like the Gungans. The plasma ball guns are fairly powerful with single shots, but they're also bulky, unwieldy, have a relatively low rate of fire, and appear to have a significant delay between the weapon being activated and the weapon actually firing. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a technology already known to the rest of the galaxy, but which isn't used because when push comes to shove, "conventional" weapons are more practical. (And there may be something about Umbara specifically that makes their tech more practical there than it would be in most other places.) I'm also sceptical that the Republic would consider berserker gas to be a bonus. Such narcotics usually come with downsides when it comes to tactical reasoning, and one of the big advantages of biological sapient soldiers in Star Wars is that they can usually outthink droids. Berserker chemicals, especially when used in an abrupt fashion across a fighting force that's already at war and hasn't had time to adjust to them, could end up doing more harm than good even if they had the same effect on clone biology as they did on the Umbarans.
There blasters fired green blaster bolts only means they can the most expensive kind of Tebona gas that's only reserved for capital ships and starfighters of the republic
Umbara's Campaign is a combination of the nightmarish guerrilla warfare style of Vietnam and civil wars in Middle East and Latin America with the insane speed of the Blitzkrieg tactics used by Nazi Wehrmacht against France and England at the start of WWII in the european theater (best example would be how the Wehrmacht completely distracted both forces in Belgium fronts, meanwhile they launched a surprise attack from the Ardennes, trapping them in a circular maneuver , decimating French forces and forcing the British to make a last desperate naval escape in now popular Dunkirk incident), and also the better technology they had. For the first time in the Clone Wars, the GAR was outmatched in quality. Also, Umbara's geography doesn't helps too much. The planet itself looks terrifying, it looks like Satan's hell, without lava, but it gives too many negative emotions that is perfect for psychological warfare. And I'm completely sure that if the CIS actually deployed their droid hordes, the Republic would have been so decimated they would have been forced to cancel the entire invasion and define the entire campaign as a failure. It would have been like how the Vietcong kicked the butt of the US Army during Vietnam War in real history, but amplified to the next level. What I love about Umbara's arc is that it shows that no matter how advanced is the Republic, no matter how close they were to start the Outer Rim Sieges after so long of having to be in the defensive against the droid hordes, no matter how much experience our bois in black and white and "heroes" had until this point, the difficulty of war never changed. Always being brutal, giving the lesson that in conflict, you can't never drop your guard.
I would have loved to see them merge with the Mando's that would have been beastly indeed yo to think a merging of those two societies nobody would have been able to ever beat them....Mandalorian and Umbaran technology mixed like holy fuck nuggets McGee...lol
Awesome video! Great overview of the planet, foliage, wildlife, the tech, people and why all of it was so different and advanced. I would like more detail on particular tech, people, wildlife or planets sometimes. Have you seen the channel Certifiably Ingame or Installation 00? They focus pretty much only on Star Trek & Halo for each. They do a non main subject vid maybe every 100th vid. They both do tech videos that are crazy, crazy, wild in depth. At the end of his ship, weapon or any other videos I know if someone wearing larger than a size 12 shoe can not fly it or you need to know spanish to interact with the computer. It would be nice to see star wars tech vids like that sometimes. Like say a spacecraft. Like to know all I wanted about the Imperial Shuttle I had to watch Spacedock (other than rairly showing cut aways, he may do the most detailed ship vids), yours, Ecks, Generation Tech, Nerd Cookies and more. I had to read books, and all sorts of stuff to still not know all I want. Videos in Star Wars covering anything spend half the time telling me things I don't really want. Comparison to a ship close but not the same with way too much info on the other ship to give that comparison. Too much info on the builder of the ship and that cultures background when that should be its own video. I want all sorts of information and visiuals that are always left out. Like angle photos, action video, cut away photos. What material everything is made of & what parts may be interchangable from other ships? Does it have a toilet (hahah always skipped in scifi) for long trips or is it short haul only? Is there anything limiting to outside cultures or alien bodies flying it? What language is the computer programmed in? Was the actuation arm for the proton bomb bay cold forged or CNC? Is it Durasteel, transparent aluminium or carbonized magnesium? Maybe not that level of detail for every single component but as much as possible on a topic with no fluff or side track stories. Do you know what I mean?
Ok like the Millennium Falcon is the most detailed and storied ship in all of the Star Wars gallaxy. In TESB, 3PO starts to say " Sir your computer communicates in the most paculiar dialect but..." or something like that. Then in Solo we get that L3-37 got shot and downloaded into the ship (don't get me started). Now we know this amazing navigational bank, self aware, opinionated, borderline human hating, violent droid is in the ship. Half the time the hyperdrive is out it could be her being pissed off at Han. Han's amazing piloting, shor cut finding, dodging asteroids, stopping on a dime behind a star destroyer is her augmentation to his piloting. She was rude and direct as a robot so she is rude and direct to C3-PO. That information, action video, profile photos, a cutaway photo, how it pushed cargo, escape pods, hidden cargo spots, we know where it was built, who it was built by, who has owned it, it's part of a modular line...on and on. However, I even from a cut a way I have seen do not know where the main cargo hold is. Is there a bathroom? Can you cook on it? What are all the weapons besides the cannons top, bottom and pop out one seen on Hoth? How much cargo can it haul? How much does it weigh? It can go in space, enter atmosphere, can it go under water? Can it withstand enough heat to get close to a star? Is it big enough to hold any sort of very small ship? If so can it's cargo doors open to release it in space? I have never seen one video that contained all the information that we know exist about this one ship together without fluff and detour info, plus the information I do not know. The information exist on almost everything in Star Wars if you mix Canon and legends info to make a tech video on a particular item, living thing or place to be the most detailed comprehensive video made. Instead everyone just picks a few prime facts comparing it to a similar thing and move on.
My only question is, if Umbaran technology was so advanced, then how did the Empire easily steamroll over them? Because, considering how advanced the Umbaran HMC is, not even an AT-AT would be enough. Realistically, the Empire would've just sued for peace with the Umbarans, not the other way around.
The main issue is lack of good enough fleet. Excellent land tech could win them multiple battles but they still could be nuked from orbit by Venators/Star destroyers.

umbara deserves to be in 40k. It's a literal night death world with an incredibly advanced native military that would give even the imperium of man a pretty hard time.
4:10 oh, cool, hard sci-fi weapons in a soft space fantasy setting.
Why would anybody dislike this video!!! or any of his videos! ITS INSANE
because star wars is for perma-virgins
It's just bots trying to balance the amount of likes
@@barbados3592 So, did you dislike the video?
@@brodyking7095 No, actually I kinda liked it. But I'm a bit ticked that the whole prequel trilogy and the entire clone war story line shows the Jedi as completely and totally evil.
@@barbados3592 Being a virgin is a bad thing?
Since stormtrooper armor is made to make the user more comfortable, I wonder if they integrated ideas from Umbara for the development of the stormtrooper armor.
That true? Rex seemed to hate how the uniform fit. Though he was also fatter/ buffer than he used to be, and clone armor was specifically made to fit him and the clones
Okay, but why didn't the Empire just TAKE their tech after the clone wars?
If you've played the Star Wars commander mobile strategy game, the Empire does get their own heavy mobile cannons. But the problem with Umbara technology is that it might be hard to mass produce which makes it unfavorable to the Empire
Have you ever heard of the Umbara Campaign?? Doubt you would. The 501st and 212th legions would never tell you about it.
Vietnam vs America, and the Umbarans are the Vietnamese
Can not help to think of an alternative timeline where the umbarans, mandalorians, and the chiss ended up working together to fight the republic and win and afterwards fight the yuuzhan-vong.
Yes more tech related videos. Love it keep your work up.
I think the most terrifying Umbaran weapon was that disintegration ray that took out scores of clones.
the only ppl i think focused more on war were the mandolorions
Umbarans: *I'm 4 parallel universes ahead of you*
The electromagnetic plasma cannons sort of remind me of Wraith mortars from Halo.
The Umbarans technology reminds me of the Covenants technology in Halo.
You've done quite a few videos on Umbara, mostly the Battle of Umbara. Would you do a video on Umbara itself and Umbara society?
The Republic, Empire, Rebellion, and the New Republic could use the tech for new ships vehicles, etc.
I think the Umbara Arc what when I sat up and took notice of Clone Wars. Before that I kind of had it on as a in the "Background" show.
Mobile heavy cannons literally could disintegrate troops alive which is the terrifying thing about them besides the strong ray shields.
Always thought those starfighters looked like pretzels.
Now this makes me question: who would win, if Mandalorians and Umbarans had to fight each other in a war?
Several plants would end in that war.
So wait could be umbaran go up against the Mandalorians
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

That giant centipede would have scared me, like "Great. Now they're giant-sized too"
Have you ever heard of the Umbara Campaign?? Doubt you would. The 501st and 212th legions would never tell you about it.
I am completely surprised we never saw the Empire making any use of this tech after they took over. Assuming Palpatine didn't see the Umbarans as a threat and had the planet nuked or something.
Electro magnetic plasma cannons...
So, basically just blasters, but very big and with a less stable containment field for every individual bolt?
I'm guessing the super big advantage is that they can use local atmosphere for plasma instead of Tibanna gas, that by itself would make them sought after, just for economic reasons!
Granted I am just basing that hypothesis on the fact that they have big open rails and visible no gas canisters, but it's a good guess...
I absolutely LOVED those episodes and Tech that they had
Remember the guns that sounds like alarm clocks?
I just started rewatching the Umbara arc. This will make it more interesting.
0:46 when the kid won’t shut up
Bruh what
Republic: want umbara
Umbarans: hehe no
Umbara the Vietnam of starwars
I'd say WW2 German Army. Highly advanced weaponry, used stimulants to help keep them awake/push them harder, yet eventually lost to an enemy who had inferior technology
They're in the trees!!!
@@tiredman99 we only cause we had more people and resources they didn't.
First time I saw the arc back in the day, Umbaran tech reminded me of the Scrin, so the Umbarans were the aliens behind Tiberium lel
I read somewhere in the comments of an Ubaran Arc clip that the helmets were likely used to pump in stimulants, but I disregarded the notion; thinking that they probably just couldn’t breathe on their own world.
At the same time though, I felt that didn’t really make sense when I did a double take.
That arc was the Vietnam of clone wars
Wow!
The Mandalorians had the skills for a fight while the Umbarans had the technology for one.
Alien dark elves with Covenant tech
None of these developments would have changed the Clone Wars because Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was controlling the entire war on both sides to a pre-determined conclusion anyway.
Choosing not to share your technology is one thing. But the Republic could have picked apart wrecks, suits, blasters, or intact vehicles in captured bases. The only ones who even touched an Umbaran weapon after it was finished shooting were a couple of rogue clones.
If blasters cauterize wounds, how was the battle of Umbara a bloodbath?
The Umbaran weapons could also vaporize
the bolts dont always cauterize, both leia and han where hit by bolts and bled from the wound.
@@phoenixraider42 it depends on the quality of the blaster. In the force awakens, poe's low quality blaster didn't cauterize.
So the Umbarans are basically the Telvanni?
The attention sargent on deck gets me every time
*4:23** LOOK IN THE BACKGROUND* - Is that a command post like in Battlefront 2? LOL. 😂🎮
It's from the RTS game star wars empire at war, specifically one of the various mods that adds in umbara as a map.

1:03 - What does he say after "native"?
Why didn't Umbaran military tech get adapted and put into widespread use in the Republic and Empire after the fall of Umbara? To clarify, I understand the Umbaran's were secretive of their technology and capabilities but after the planets downfall, what prevented the Republic from capturing acquiring and adapting the tech?
My guess is fail-safe devices in case they ever got out or captured.
The l8-l9 would have been extremely useful on umbara
if plot armor wasn't a thing in star wars the umbarans would've won
I feel Jedi would do very well in a umbaran starfighter. It's a reflex based fighter that had organic, irregular movement.
I hope we see more of umbara in future
Love your videos
Please don't choke me
Dew it
Note umbara focused on ground and air based tech.
(And there may be something about Umbara specifically that makes their tech more practical there than it would be in most other places.)
I'm also sceptical that the Republic would consider berserker gas to be a bonus.
I would love to see more technology videos.
There blasters fired green blaster bolts only means they can the most expensive kind of Tebona gas that's only reserved for capital ships and starfighters of the republic
Wasn’t there an Imperial version of that six-legged Umbaran artillery piece? Too bad that Star Wars app was discontinued…
Umbran's Are Badass guys
agreed
Always being brutal, giving the lesson that in conflict, you can't never drop your guard.
so they are like Terrans from the star trek mirror universe
Umbarans: assassination is a-okay if you get away with it
*Umbaran senator gets murdered*
Umbarans: what that’s illegal
Our own military gave the men Adderall during the storming the beaches at the opening of WW2.
Wow, I just rewatched it
My only question is, if Umbaran technology was so advanced, then how did the Empire easily steamroll over them? Because, considering how advanced the Umbaran HMC is, not even an AT-AT would be enough. Realistically, the Empire would've just sued for peace with the Umbarans, not the other way around.
The main issue is lack of good enough fleet. Excellent land tech could win them multiple battles but they still could be nuked from orbit by Venators/Star destroyers.
Other than being secret and paranoid, is Umbaran tech difficult or impossible to reverse-engineer?
Loved the tech and look of these guys, such a cool faction
Yes more tech please
