- Today I'm creating another cool set of sampler abstracts to play in a new color palette. I have been inspired by interiors my whole life, have a degree in interior design, and have always been fascinated by how we decorate our spaces and the colors we choose to surround ourselves with.
In this series, I'm creating pieces inspired by interiors. In my new Skillshare class: Oil & Cold Wax: Creating Abstract Art with Color Palettes Inspired by Interiors... we are doing exactly this. Creating beautiful art with new and interesting color palettes.
I hope you loved the pieces we created today and I cannot wait to see you in class! xoxo Denise

ya know my mother was an artist, unfortunately lost her in 2018, still miss her deeply, and I remember telling her.... oh I'm not a painter, I could never do that, well you've inspired me, after seeing you're abstract samples, I think I can DO it :). it's just really experimenting, and I love the color palette you choose, absolutely gorjus... I can hear my mother whispering to me, you can do it sweetie.... got me teary eyed writing this, thank you AGAIN for making me smile. Miss her deeply, I think she would be proud that I'm even reconsidering trying again.
That is exactly what I want from this channel.. for people to see that they can do it too. I’m so glad you are getting inspired! Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
Oh, Denise, when you first started, I wasn't sure what hot mess you were making. I LOVED your pieces and would hang it in my living room. You are one unique artist, and I appreciate your candidness, knowledge, and joyfulness. I look forward to watching you. (I'm stuck in a watercolor rut at the moment and this was just the piece to imagine outside of my usual practice). Thank you!
Oil & Cold wax is so much fun to play in! These are still some of my favorite pieces I've done. So glad you loved them!! Thank you! 🥰
First, the color palette is delicious, and second, these are absolutely beautiful. Thank you!!
Thank you! 🥰
Love the colour pallet!!! That light blue 🤤🤣. Another great video! Thank you Denise!❤
Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful Denise 😍. So mesmerising to watch seeing how quickly the different layers and marks transform the piece. Love the colour palette too.
Would you think about doing something similar with a heavy body acrylic or mixing a medium with an acrylic to see the difference layers, marks and textures?
Really enjoying watching your videos from the beginning. Thank you 💗🤗💗
Glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you! 🥰
The punchinella is called sequin waist. When my grandma died the girls got to take things we wanted I found a huge roll of that. She always bought thing’s just incase she could use it. It’s pretty old and I haven’t used it. I watch you on my tv but have to comment on my phone lol ❤Thank you for your inspiration ❤
I love your reaction to what you just did and pulling the tape off ❤
Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful color palette and the result is so pretty. I love the way you work and try new things. Almost 5 am in Chile. Need to sleep & leave you for today. Loving your work more and more.
So glad you hung out with me today! Thank you!! 🥰🥰🥰
These would make beautiful cards too!
They sure would! 😊
This color palette is honestly amazing.
Thank you! ☺️
These are gorgeous! I've never used oils at all. They're intimidating to me. Well, maybe it's the clean-up, lol. I probably could try watercolor soluble oils, but then I think I'd be losing the "true" oil experience. Anyway, thanks for sharing this it was really fun to watch. Have a great day.
I used to be a bit scared of oils too… but the oil and coldwax is really fun. Gloves help… and the cleanup hasn’t been bad at all! Thank you! ☺️
My understanding is that the only difference between oil paint and water-soluble oil paint is the clean up - and not having to use solvent to clean your brushes. So it's better for people with sensitivities to some of the old solvents (or even the newer odour-free ones). So go ahead and get water-soluble ones to try! I had no experience with oil paint until I started the Milan Art Institute online Mastery Program. Wow. That was a game-changer. It started out teaching how to use the techniques of the old masters and that was such an eye-opener. So now I love oil paint, but I also paint with acrylic and enjoy them both.
These came out amazing!! I love this technique! The color palette is very pretty too!
Thank you! 🥰
I bought myself some oils and have been starring at them in the draw…I think it’s time to have a go!
Fun!! Happy painting 🎨🎨🎨
Oh.. oils paints… omg don’t make me buy more craft supplies!! 😂😂😂😂 I have resistedbuying those japanese watercolours… always on my mind!!!
LOL! I'd wait on the oils and play in the other mediums first. There are more supplies and materials that go with oils and they are messier than the watercolors! 😊
I didn't know where you were going with this at first but, as soon as you pulled the tape off - LOVE IT!!!!! Can't wait to try it myself.
Pulling tape is magical!! Have fun painting!! 😊
Love the colors again!
Thank you! 🥰
This color pallet is gorgeous
Thank you! 😊
I need to look through your older videos, I guess, because I hadn't seen this one and I LOVE it! 🥰Not sure if I want to get into oils, but I have a bajillion other hobbies, so what's another one at this point. 🤣
Haha! Never too many hobbies! I like working with the oils like this. I love hopping around in different supplies 😁 Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful color palette .
Thank you! 🥰
That´s really great, also the inspirational foto book! I wish me more cold wax - tutorials from you!
Thank you! 🥰. I have some oil and cold wax classes on Skillshare if you are on there! 😊
I love how you use such a variety of different mediums. I love oil paint and cold wax medium, and this colour palette is one of my favourites. I have lots of home decor and design books so I should try out a palette in one of them! These turned out so beautiful!
These are some of my favorite! You should totally get out your design books! Thank you! 🥰

Loved this!
Thank you!! 🥰
I feel very inspired by this colour combo!....but I don't have oils. Was wondering I could achieve this somehow with oil pastels??? Is there anything you can add to them to make them this consistancy?? Im still new to them...but if anyone knows..it'll be you Denise😅. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.
You can definitely use these colors in any other medium you have. Just start experimenting and see what you can create with what you have! 😊
requesting another cold wax oil tute!!!! bellisima
Thank you! 🥰 I have 3 oil and cold wax classes on my site (2lilowls.com/art-workshops/) and on Skillshare (www.skillshare.com/en/r/user/2lilowls) that you can check out!

Fun!! 🎹
I struggled with oils, but now I want to pull them out again. What was the mixture of wax:oil did you use? You might have said, but I missed it.
I usually do about a 50/50 mixture. More wax than that might end up cracking as it dries, 😊
Can I do wax and watercolors? Is that a thing? I’m absolutely repulsed by the texture of oils!😣
You can top coat your watercolor with a coat of wax as a finish. I don’t believe you could use watercolor ( but I’ve not tried - so always worth an experiment). You could do powdered pigments mixed in the coldwax and do it that way without oils. 😊
@@2lilowlsstudio thank you so much! I appreciate it so much!☺️
Oh, and I only have beeswax. Is that ok?
Coldwax is a specific product that contains wax and other solvents so it is a creamy mixture that feels like frosting. Just the beeswax isn’t quite the same thing.
@@2lilowlsstudio thank you
Ho much cold wax to oil
I do about a 50-50 ratio. You can do less wax and more paint. More than 50% wax isn’t good as it tends to crack later.
