Want to know what Israelis and Palestinians in the Middle East really think about the conflict? Ask a question and I will get answers.
I'll give you an experience, I'm a descendant of Palestinians grandparents on both sides. Both my parents were born after the occupation and I have no family members in Palestine. I have no family members who are activists or anything out of the norm. I'm a citizen of the US and Jordan. I tried going to Palestine once and they illegally denied me entry for absolutely no reason. I called the US embassy and they said it's illegal, it happens, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Maybe you tried to pass by Israël to Palestine. That’s denied for almost all strangers from several countries that doesn’t have extradition law to Israël for crime committed into NATO.
But you can cross the border when you come from Queen Alia in Jordan, there’s no checkpoint.
Why do you want to go in a war country, without having family members into when you come from US ? That’s a good question they might ask for and that could be the reason of their suspicions.
@@karlvaopa3871 to reiterate: they gave me the reason and it was illegal under israeli law, as written it their laws and as stated by the US embassy.

6:56 The term "price tag settler" refers to those militants among the Israeli settlers who engage in vandalism or violence against Palestinian communities, the Israeli Army, and Israeli leftists critical of settlements, as their way of making them "pay the price" for real or imagined attacks against settlers and the settlements.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_tag_policy
This is usually teenagers not adults. It is almost always done in response to Arab aggression towards settlements or settlers. The police have a zero tolerance towards it.
They should be exiled to Gaza in my opinion
@@Linda43 This kid who got stabbed in the arm in all likelihood did nothing wrong; he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was of the wrong identity group. The settler militants may be young (it's hard to say for sure, since it doesn't seem like the authorities can even come up with a consistent estimate of how many there are), but that doesn't make them any less terrifying. And while I'm sure the settler militants see Palestinians as their primary enemies, they have also lashed out at Israeli security forces and Jewish peace activists - anyone whom they see as opposing them.

I mention this mainly because a lot of people, especially overseas, have no idea that settler violence even exists, much less that the perpetrators attack Jewish as well as Arab people - whoever they perceive to be enemies of the settlements.
Linda Steckel you mean illegal settlers
It's groups of teenagers, not necessarily from settlements acting as response or "revenge" after terrorist attacks. Usually the "revenge" is graffiti or puncture of tires. Which is unacceptable of course and police have no tolerance to those idiots. But to say that they acting "under army protection" is bullshit of course.

I can also give my own experience. I was born in Nablus, West Bank, I was three years old when the intifada began, but I left Palestine when I turned eleven when my family immigrated to Europe for a better future.
During the short time I've lived there, the most negative experiences I had were the frequent, random tear gas attacks. One time I particularly remember how unpleasant it was, I was walking from school with my 2 sisters and an IDF car passed by and threw a tear gas bomb near us (it was just a random day, very few people on the street minding their own bussiness) and the bomb hit a teen boy right in the head, he was like 20 meters away from us at most. He seemed in so much distress, fell to the ground and was violently trying to clear his head and coughing. We were rushed into a store close by and they closed the door. I could barely breath and the tears were burning my cheeks, I couldn't picture how bad it was for that kid, and for what?
Another frequent negative thing were the curfews. Random curfews were set in place and we could not leave the house even to buy food. We would stay home from school for days and delay everything just because our illegal occupiers felt like it.
Another negative experience I had was when the soldiers would randomly search our homes. They would gather the young boys and men in a place, guarding them with weapons, and the children, women and elderly in another, but all outside the home, and search the house. Sometimes if they would find any weapons or something they did not like, they would detain men and young boys. Although none of my family members were detained, I have some friends from childhood who were detained after I left the country, some of them held in solitary confinement for long periods of time.
Finally one experience I remember is when one time they stormed the city unannounced (which sometimes happened) and a tank appeared near my school. I was in class and could see everything through the window. There were young boys throwing stones, so obviously they started shooting and throwing gas bombs, the whole school full of children panicked, there was crying and yelling everywhere, we had to be sent home in ambulances and random cars for safety and because we were so many and not all of our parents could come pick us up. It was horrible.
Anyway, I would like to conclude by saying that I somewhat empathize with a lot of soldiers. They are 18 years old most of the time, so practically kids, brainwashed into terrorizing some random people in an occupied territory. And refusal to comply can land you in prison. I do not condemn the soldiers, but the Israeli government, and the western states for not interfering and cutting army funds. Israel should be allowed to have its own state, but continuous expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank and this inhumane treatment of the people whose land is stolen is unacceptable.
But this was all in the middle of an intafada. By what you said I'm guessing it's the second. And it amazes me that you can't question a lot of things. Like what if you remember some stuff wrong or maybe they detained them because they had illegal weapons. And not compiling with the police would send you to jail in every western country. Stop acting like Israel needs to be punished for acting like every other fucking state would.

Please explain. I know it's been a year (and a war) since your last comment......
Well, I used to be a soldier in those places, as soldiers, we are taught always to be respectful towards the locals , of course there are soldiers who are filled with hate towards them, and then will not be so nice when dealing with them as well, but even that is not to the point of just randomly shooting someone (The soldier will be sent to jail).
Tear gas is being used against violent , stone throwing gatherings of Arabic youths(Sadly it happens everyday), meant to spread them out and stop them from proceeding.
If tear gas doesn't stop them from proceeding towards Jewish areas (Roads and such, which is their objective of throwing the stones at), then the soldiers will use rubber shots (Not live fire) , which are pretty good at suppressing these gatherings without actually taking lives.
Live fire is only used when there is immediate life threat of civilians/soldiers, and only then it is used.
As for the checkpoints, they are meant to stop any suspicious approaching vehicles, along with the information we are receiving, The suspicious / looked after vehicles, will be stopped by the soldiers and checked out, these mostly end up in a "Hello" and "Goodbye" between the locals and the soldiers after 2 minutes, and if there is a reason for suspecting the vehicle/driver/passengers, they will be held up for up to few hours , until they are taken forward to further investigation or set free by the time the soldiers deem them innocent.
For the people saying Israeli soldiers broke into their homes, It is true, arrests are taking place in these regions , but be sure that Israeli soldiers are not breaking into random people's houses in the middle of the night just because they feel like it.
These arrests are meant to take terrorists/people who had done something like throwing molotovs/ opened fire(etc), and they end up being investigated and each person gets dealt with according to the law.
From my experience as a soldier, I never had to open fire towards anyone, and gladly so.
As you can see, this situation is very complicated, and it will only get worse as the education systems (Way more prominent in the palestinian authorities) are in favor of hate towards each other, filled with propaganda, and it's just sad to see it happening.

Check points were put into place after decades of indiscriminate terrorism, bus bombings and intifadas. Can someone explain the checkpoints to me? Are these checkpoints when they leave Palestinian areas to go to Israeli areas or does the IDF have a presence INSIDE the Gaza, West Bank, etc.?
Okay so, there's the West Bank, right? And Israel, yeah? Between them wall. The wall has checkpoints.
The wall and checkpoints were built after the second Intifada, to prevent entrance of terrorists from Palestinian territory. It's not inside the territory, though, it's a zone that belongs to no-one basically. Those going to Israel are checked to see they don't carry explosives and/or weapons, as this might be for uh, bus exploding or something.
Anyway, with hundreds if not thousands (in total) of soldiers serving there (it's usually a temporary placement, the soldiers are changed regularly), many can turn out to be assholes. The kind lf people that barely use punctuation when writing FB comments, not because they forget but because they have no understanding of basic grammar type of people.
Being at the checkpoint doesn't require much brains, so these soldiers are the ones positioned there.
The checkpoints serve to prevent Israelis from entering the PA, too, especially in Ju
In other words: intifada rages, Palestinian terrorists enter Israel to kill civilians → Israel surrounding itself with a wall and put checkpoints with border police/soldiers to man the checkpoints → at checkpoints, adults, but worse than that, children, are caught with explosives on them, terrorists exploit humanitarian protocols such as pretending to be ill to pass through the checkpoint → they do so, and the soldiers realize people lie to get in → they pass onwards this knowledge, to prevent having a soldier let in a terrorist → loss of trust in the passers' integrity → what happens today
