- Koh Kong, Cambodia, is a fascinating border town often overlooked by tourists. Located near the Thailand border, this small town is known for its proximity to lush rainforests, eco-tourism opportunities, and Koh Kong Island, a military-controlled spot with stunning beaches. In this video, I explore the streets of Koh Kong, showcasing its local markets, friendly locals, and the developing tourism scene.
While it’s not a typical holiday destination, Koh Kong offers a unique glimpse into Cambodian life, from its charming riverside views to its mix of cultural influences. If you’re a backpacker passing through or on a visa run, this town is worth a day’s visit to uncover its quirks. Join me as I navigate the streets, discover local highlights, and share my honest impressions of this underrated spot in Southeast Asia.
I am an older backpacker travelling the world proving that backpacking is not just for the younger generation.

Great video mate . I went to Koh Kong back in 1999 it was a bit like the wild west back then . Bars . Girls and guns it has changed.
It’s getting a bit more respectable!!!
Thank you for you visited my cambodia
Might I suggest you review some price for food and accommodations in your travels
I do try and add prices in some of the videos when I mention hotels/hostels but because I don’t do a script, sometimes I forget to mention.
Is the food similar to Thailand's or is it different?
The Cambodian street food is dire and to be avoided.
At Koh Kong it looked similar, but I’ve met 2 different people so far in Cambodia who both got food poisoning from street food in this country :(
I bet your really missing Darlo are ya mate lmao, not missing anything, great videos from a fellow darlo lad!
I’m missing Greggs! Lol
@@olderbackpacker Mate, its probably cheaper to travel to Thailand etc than buy a steak bake atm pmsl, enjoy, and keep up the vids bud :)
Get moto taxi to take you to the chicken farm. You'll enjoy it there.
Border town, you've got to imagine wot is crossing that border both ways, hence big houses, true 😮
@@LJE69 what? I take it you don't know what a cambodian chicken farm is then. Just ask a local. Ps, in koh Kong it's about 1 km up chicken farm road on the right.
Koh Kong is a one horse town and the horse is knackered.
Unfortunately I’ve left Koh Kong, so didn’t get a chance to see it :/
What’s to explore - it’s a chicken town mate
