Awesome! The coaching angle is interesting. Last week I watched the 1 hour Backcountry video of Karel's PCT record attempt on youtube. Outstanding! What was your biggest takeaway from the coaching (apart from finishing the race)? I think for relative newcomers to race prep, it's the accountability and regular schedule that creates the compounded benefits. Must be so much harder to skip any session if you know your coach will be asking about it. Also, how useful was the technical analysis and did the coaching also cover race nutrition or you had to figure that out yourself?

Thanks for watching! The biggest thing for me with the coaching was truly just having a plan I didn't have to stress over creating. And having an objective person I could turn to with questions. For instance, I was worried I wasn't getting a long enough long run before the Berlin Marathon. My coach agreed and adjusted.
But UTC isn't as intense as a personal coach who will ask why you missed a run. (Then again, I never did miss a run, so maybe he would've called me out!) My wife has a coach who personally schedules everything and leaves comments on runs. But that's more expensive and I didn't feel I needed that. UTC is a bit more hands off, but hands on enough that I can dump the things off my plate that I know less about, like how much elevation I should get in each run if my A race has X amount of meters of elevation.
I didn't broach the topic of nutrition, but in that same call in this video, he did talk about how important it is to train with your nutrition as well. But I didn't need help with that so much because of my experience after the marathon in 2021. I personally made it a priority.
      Hope that helps!
