    Did you know that in the UK, American kids cereal (e.g. Lucky Charms) has to be sold as a sweet treat rather than breakfast because of the amount of sugar in it?

      My brother and sister-in-law have lived in Japan for many years. The stores there don't sell any sugary cereals. The only stuff they could get was Honey Nut Cheerios and things like that. No Lucky Charms, no Cap'n Crunch, no Frosted Flakes.

      I ask myself where was this information when we all were kids. Second you don’t have to give up the foods you enjoy just cut the amount, eat the capt one in a blue just excuse and replace the capt with a healthy option. I eat the capt when I have a craving that’s like in a whole one maybe twice a year a strong maybe

    • @jwoolman3425
      @jwoolman3425 5 лет назад

      Lydia C - just look at the ingredients on the label. There are loads of different options for patties and sausage/hot dog shapes of vegan/vegetarian food. You don’t have to get soy, there are other beans.... plus nutritious grains and veg. I don’t have any trouble with soy protein isolate or wheat protein isolate or concentrate and actually digest those better than whole soy or wheat, something else in wheat bothers me. So that’s not a deal breaker for me although I would rather not overdose on soy.
      Morningstar Farms is often in mainstream groceries but they use an awful lot of egg white (the worst part of the egg for me, I’m allergic). But more recently they’ve been doing more actually vegan (egg and dairy free) stuff. Their vegan beef and chicken strips in the meal starter line are good for making things like meatless chicken salad (but chopped up garbanzo beans work as well, I make a no-tuna tuna salad from them). I tried their new even more overpriced vegan quarter pounder patties- I really like the meat lovers one, but just eat half a burger at a time because it’s too high in protein and calories for me in a single meal. I didn’t love their veggie lovers one, though. It was ok but meh. You just have to try the different varieties, look at ingredients, and look at the nutritional info to check for what matches your own needs.
      I really like Qrunch products, which use other grains (especially my fave millet) and quinoa. Their toaster sticks are wonderful but their patties are pretty good also. I like Tofurky products usually, but read the label to see if you object to anything. Their deli slices are nice for sandwiches or quick snacks by themselves or salads. Gardein beefless tips and porkless BBQ pockets are favorites of mine. Louisville Vegan jerkies are soft and can be easily used in sandwiches and casseroles (my fave is the maple bacon flavor, they are soy-based). Boca has a really good vegan burger and also an American Classic that includes a little cheese inside it. I like Loma Linda (in cans) for hot dogs and Redi-burger (I slice the ground beef like Redi-Burger into patties while pushing them out of the can from the back). Patties are a versatile shape since they can be used for sandwiches but also can be broken up for any other kind of dish.
      There are loads of other brands I can get mailorder (no car, otherwise I know I could get a lot at Kroger’s or Meijer’s). Browsing at veganessentials.com can show you the variety available.
      Prices are always so high that this limits me pretty easily from overeating any of this... I have to eat mainly vegan due to allergies as well as being vegetarian, and you definitely do not need to buy any of this stuff to have a good diet. They are just convenient. You can also get recipes to make your own meatless patties and sausages and then you have complete control over the ingredients. The results can easily be shaped into patties and individually frozen, just as I always do with the commercial stuff. If you like the taste of sausages, you can actually buy the spices used for convenience.

      Hi. once again a very good video with a critical topic well explained!
      I dont know about you but when I read ingredients lists I always watch out for palm oil and it is horryfying where all it is in- it is a mass product really hardcorely damaging the rainforest.
      Now I also saw palmoil on some of your cereal boxes and remembered. It would be nice if u maybe used your big community and mentioned something about this harmkess seeming ingredient. I could tell you stories about the weirdest things I found palm oil in, like dried herbs:'D

    I am so glad that in Europe companies are required to put all the stats per 100 gramm. It's sooo much more easy to compare products when you always have calories/carbs/sugar/fat and stuff per 100 gramm. Some companies choose to add stats for a serving size but since that is not regulated it's stupid anyway. It also makes calculating more easy. "Ups, I got 35 grams of the honey smacks instead of 27 Grams." --> way easier if you have the amount of 100 g on hand.

Although, I purchase my sweet cereal from Trader Joe’s so I know I’m not getting artificial flavors or colors in my food like I will often find in regular cereal. I love this video SO much!! I have a serious sugary cereal addiction. I stopped buying it too because I'll just binge on it. I've been been buying plain Cheerios now and they aren't my favorite but do the job when I really have a craving and I don't binge on em. I would love to see a video like this about pre made meals in the frozen food isle. I don't even know if there ARE even any healthy or not horrible options haha but sometimes I have no choice with a busy life and I have to eat them so I'd love to know which ones are least horrible! Thanks for all you do!!

      Dang makes wonderful coconut chips. Basically just coconut, coconut oil, salt, and coconut sugar... They also make excellent onion chips now, made from sliced onions, oil, salt, and some kind of tapioca dextrin for processing probably. I’ve also had good bacon-flavored coconut chips, I think from the Phoney Baloney company. No pigs were injured in the making of those bacon chips.

    This is fantastic, thank you very much. I was always looking for cereals with less than 8 or 9gr per serving for my kids. I'm so glad I found your channel I've been binge watching everything. I've been eating this cereal since I was old enough to hold a spoon and it kicks all of those other's backside. It is Shredded Wheat. 2 biscuits per serving 160 calories, 1 gram of fat, 0 sugar, 5g of protein and the ingredients is 1, whole grain wheat. (MY favorite way to eat this is to pour hot water over it and then drain and squeeze the water out by squishing the biscuits, top with cinnamon, a packet of Stevia and some low-fat milk) BUT, there is always a but... BHT is added to the packaging which is common in so many food products and cereals.

      It is my responsibility to be thorough in these educational videos- If I am more "to the point" then I will overlook important factors that people need to be aware of. I am providing the information so I will do it in the way that is best for my audiences educational purposes- it is important that I never tell anyone what to do- I want to encourage people to make informed decisions, and they must be informed to be able to do that. I must offer the information for them to be informed. Make sense? Cheers

    i don't allow the kids, or myself, to use cereal as the meal, i use the more sugary cereal in a HALF CUP PORTION , and the lower sugar ones in a one cup portion, as a side with our fresh eggs and yogurt with fresh fruits or canned in winter. it is something i learned in nursing school at a diabetes seminar. great vid!
